- 10goto10, on 10/13/2007, -0/+17Yeah, but what about when you move out of mom and dad's house and get a job and stuff?
- Petromyzon, on 10/13/2007, -0/+16Well then he upgrades to wordpad and switches to the scientific mode on calc.
- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -1/+8Notepad and the Microsoft Calculator are all I need to keep track of MY financial information.
- MajorD, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5If Rich McIver went into a little more detail about each product I might be more interested in his suggestions, e.g. "I used to rely heavily on freshbooks for invoicing and time tracking" - Why?
Also, it feels as though someone is getting paid for advertising this info... - ferric84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5has anyone had experience with mint? It looks like a useful tool, but I'm weary about handing over all my bank/credit information
- calenlas, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5Who in their right mind would give all their banking information to a website? Come on people, think: not all scams come from shady Nigerians. Even if these websites are on the up and up, what happens when the small start up gets sold, or their database gets hacked?!?
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Or they decide they can no longer loose money, and start charging for what *used* to be free. Do you just abandon all your data to these strangers?
No thanks. I dont think I'll be using Random.com for my financials. - haplology, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, this is a concern, of course. But read through Mint's FAQ. They use the same backend that a lot of banks are using. That's not saying that banks don't also lose track of your information sometimes, but it's a risk you're probably already taking if you're banking online. Only difference is the consolidation of that risk.
- NukeIraq, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1same question here
- MajorD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Here's an article from Mint.com that I think is better than Rich's article...
http://blog.mint.com/blog/finance-core/three-princ ... - Nicksname1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Those CCH calculators are pretty cool.
- hoowahman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah I'm using it. It seems secure enough, read about their privacy policies and FAQ.
- intellimouse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Why are you still using MS Word and Excel?"
Because I want real tools and not some flimsy HTML wanna-be application? - wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You think?
For less than $200, you can get Microsoft Office Accounting -- more than you'll need for a small business. The new version (that I'll be buying soon) incorporates eBay listing / tracking / sales, and PayPal.

- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What about the local mob?
- ereg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I've seen all this before and some just fall into the relm of common sence, but if you are in/starting a small business, MOST of the stuff on the list is good to have
- caluca, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1although not a business tool per se, I would add to this list xe.com - Use it almost daily
- zendegany, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1one computer is all I need~ never use these untidy tools~
- indee735, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'm using. I'm not happy with it. I like the concept but it doesn't work. It's still very buggy.
- gamer2x, on 02/10/2009, -0/+0great story.digged it.
http://can-collection-agency-sue-for-a-debt.blogsp ... - T3, on 09/18/2008, -0/+0All of thise sites get quite a bit of traffic. They must be useful to small business owners and their employees. I manage projects all the time and basecamp is pretty cool.

- ereg, on 10/13/2007, -8/+2notepad is for people that like to think they're more tech savy than others. If you have word, USE IT! and MS calculator is crap, don't pretend it isn't.
