- chrisp9446, on 02/02/2009, -0/+646In case the whole sending-your-gold-through-the-mail thing didn't make you steer clear of Cash4Gold...
- SeaMowse, on 02/02/2009, -0/+432What people may not realize is this: There are pawn shops that will take your scrap gold, weigh it and test it to see if it is actually gold, and give you your money right on the spot. There are also some jewelry stores that will do this as well. The price of gold fluctuates just like the stock market does, so the amount you receive will reflect that. I believe that pawn shops might charge a small fee, but I think jewelry stores will do this for free. The test used to check to see if the jewelry is gold is really a no-brainer, and is tested with a q-tip swab. I forget the chemical used to do this, but it's not harmful, at least the amount needed (a saturated q-tip) to test the jewelry.
So, in a nutshell - don't fall for these scams. It's best to do this on your own - that way you can be sure that you're getting the exact amount your jewelry is worth, and that the weight reading will be accurate, and not fudged. - dvsbastard, on 02/03/2009, -1/+368I sent all my gold to a Nigerian prince as a good will gesture...
- Winkythecat, on 02/03/2009, -1/+299Stop. Scammertime.
- botanist, on 02/02/2009, -0/+284What amazes me is that people needed a Consumerist article to realize Cash4Gold is a scam...nothing against Consumerist of course, but this is obviously how Cash4Gold can keep operating.
- NMed04, on 02/03/2009, -1/+225woah woah woah... you mean cash for gold is a scam??!?
- Sup3rSh3ep, on 02/03/2009, -2/+166left4dead>cash4gold

- JCEEZ, on 02/03/2009, -2/+105I smelled scam from a mile away, but the commercial during the superbowl was hilarious.
- kvgirard, on 02/03/2009, -1/+94Wait. Stop. You mean MC Hammer deceived me?
- infamousjr, on 02/02/2009, -0/+87I don't believe it! Ed Mcmahon wouldn't steer me wrong!
- BossKey, on 02/03/2009, -0/+78Yeah, "Send us your gold and some time later we'll tell you how much it's worth" is pretty much a Darwinian test of intelligence.
It is also a marketer's dream. Everybody who fails (passes?) the test is clearly an easy mark for all kinds of offers. What a mailing list that would be. - cucamelsmd15, on 02/02/2009, -1/+76As Ed Mcmahon said: "Fairwell old friend".
Hopefully this ***** company folds with quickness. But, like the old saying says "A fool and his money are soon parted", because you really would have to be a fool to send anything to these idiots. - K4Lic0, on 02/03/2009, -1/+73But MC Hammer sent them a gold medallion of him wearing a gold medallion!
- MrThirsty, on 02/03/2009, -1/+70Hey, the guys from freecreditreport.com will go down as the "voice of this generation" more then Kanye West will.

- slapded, on 02/03/2009, -2/+60the name screams legit.
/sarcasm - jserio, on 02/03/2009, -2/+60Every time I see these commercials I ask myself who in the hell would mail their gold in an unsecured packet? If it's lost or stolen, you know you won't get fair market value for your gold, nor can you prove they are giving you fmv for it if and when it's received.
In a related story, anyone notice the super Bowl commercial for Cash4Gold with Ed McMahon? - shoover, on 02/03/2009, -1/+56Why would anyone think a company named 'Cash4Gold' is not a scam? I just don't get people - how many are really that stupid?
Here's a link to the superbowl ad, if anyone cares: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA3KW6Cu6-k - cwood3ku, on 02/03/2009, -1/+54Why don't we save the postal service while putting these bastards out of business. I didn't read anything in their disclaimer against sending gold colored bolts. They pay the shipping...make it heavy.
- painting, on 02/03/2009, -0/+53dont forget Video Professor. They send you "free" cds and charge you hundreds a month on things you didn't know about
- mogebier, on 02/03/2009, -1/+52Who are the idiots who thought this wasn't a scam?
The same people who think they can make $6000 a week by working part-time at home I bet. - veled, on 02/03/2009, -3/+47Individuals are Smart. People are Stupid.
- TwistyNoseMcgee, on 02/03/2009, -2/+461) Find a piece of dog ***** (or your own if you like)
2) Send it to their location
3) .........
4) Profit!! - DankNugzPlz, on 02/03/2009, -0/+43FYI - By law, you are allowed to see your credit report from each of the three companies once every 365 days for free.

I would suggest just getting one report every 4 months so that you can constantly keep an eye on your credit report for free. - Gman1223, on 02/03/2009, -0/+41The name on the check is Rob Cockerham.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -0/+39but they even got da hammer to be in their super bowl ad though.. WITH a nice looking old man. That doesn't look like a scam, does it?
- Scage, on 02/03/2009, -0/+38Their late night commercials always appeared shady.
- qaz0101, on 02/03/2009, -0/+38hmm. $1 gold paint + dozen steel bolts from a construction dumpster, sounds like a plan!
- inhaler, on 02/03/2009, -0/+38Unfortunately your warning falls on deaf ears: how many elderly people read digg? They're really preying on your grandmothers with this.
- AboveandBeyond, on 02/03/2009, -0/+38Wow those nigerians made it to the super bowl ads...impressive
- DarkPilot, on 02/03/2009, -0/+37I swear to Christ I thought that was a spoof ad the first time I saw it on the Comedy Network.
"You know the Germans always make good stuff" - FreddieD, on 02/03/2009, -0/+34Don't forget to send them your steaming pile of dog ***** in their SECURE envelope for a SAFE, RELIABLE TRANSACTION!

- redfred18t, on 02/03/2009, -0/+28Oh wow, I never knew that about the video professor. Damn, even what seemed to be the more legit commercials turn out to be scams.
- MrThirsty, on 02/03/2009, -0/+28You'll be sayin' WOW every time...
- MooseOfReason, on 02/03/2009, -0/+28MC Hammer, too! He never lies!
