- WarpFox, on 10/12/2007, -36/+263Well, you know, I hate black people. I let it be known I don’t like black people. I don’t like to be around black people. I’m blackophobic. It shouldn’t be in the world, in the United States, I don’t like it.
How you like me now Tim? - Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -28/+139Current Digg users says "Who gives a rats ass what a washed up basketball player thinks?"..
- WarpFox, on 10/12/2007, -12/+122As a gay person I enjoy spreading my highly contaigous gayness on everyone, If i see you on the street and you are male I want you no matter what you look like, and you better watch out because if I sneeze, brush by you or wave my hand in a silly manner you will catch it and become gay as well. Sorry that is just the way things work.
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -8/+109"ever been to San Francisco?"
Dude, this is digg. Half the people here are gay web designers from San Francisco. - DoorFrame, on 10/12/2007, -20/+102I wish I liked watching basketball so I could stop liking it because of him.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -73/+152WOW, Tim Hardaway just cost himself all of my respect by saying some ignorant ***** like that. Hey Timmy, you do know that this is 2007 and not 1977 right? You do realize that most people do not chose to be gay, to say that you hate gay people is like saying you hate people with lupus. People like you make me feel sick in my stomach, it's sad that we proud ourselves as civilized people but our country is still filled with these kind of people.
- Snokage, on 10/12/2007, -7/+78good.. im glad he said hows he feels...at least he can't be called a liar.
freedom of speech gotta love it. - kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+69I think what Tolbs meant was that if you want to say you are tolerant, you have to tolerate those who are intolerant, tolerance only means something if you can accept differing view points if you just say everyone needs to agree with me, what the ***** have you accomplished.
- benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -10/+64you gotta admit, you've got to admire his balls. However, he'll hate you for it.
- SnowPuffKing, on 10/12/2007, -13/+62"You do realize that most people do not chose to be gay, to say that you hate gay people is like saying you hate people with lupus."
I agree with your sentiment and know your heart is in the right place, but not the best simile considering most don't consider it a disease. - DoorFrame, on 10/12/2007, -43/+92@tolbs: "People still can't tolerate homosexuality, theres nothing wrong with that"
There's nothing wrong intolerance and bigotry? Good to know. - benijuana, on 10/12/2007, -7/+55i dont want anyone at all watching me in the shower, especially when im peeing
- dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+47What's there to be afraid of? If you're straight, and not in prison, a gay person is just another person that you're never, ever going to have sex with. A homophobe is someone who's a little less sure of that.
They have more reason to fear him than he has to fear them. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40I thought I caught GAY once, turned out to be an m&m
- WarpFox, on 10/12/2007, -16/+50uh, yea
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -13/+43he's probably just in the closet.
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -32/+55Because you're only allowed to have opinions that everyone else deems OK.
I for one, have gained respect for him, for standing up for what he believes and cowering to the pressure of political correctness.
I don't agree with him, but at least he has the testicular fortitude to hold firm to his ideals.
And the "you don't choose to be gay" thing, no, you're wrong. Some people do. Even most gay men admit that they hate the guys that just "choose" to be gay, because they tend to overdo it (ever been to San Francisco?). - ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29Yeah...it's a front. His real name is Tim Hardngay. He doesn't want ANYONE to know the truth.
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27“Well, you know, I hate religous people, ” Hardaway said in response to Le Batard. “I let it be known I don’t like religous people. I don’t like to be around religous people. I’m religous-phobic. It shouldn’t be in the world, in the United States, I don’t like it.”
World replacement: How is that any different? The beauty of America is an idiot can say something like this and not get stoned, beheaded or jailed.
Freedom for others means hearing crap like this. You also have the freedom to ignore it. - leprix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26navido- contrary to your apparent belief, not all gay men are attracted to you.
- arcele, on 10/12/2007, -23/+44Is it really that big of a surprise that someone from the NBA, or in any profession is saying this? There's plenty of people who feel the same way, he just had the courage to say what he believed and not say what was politically correct.
- teresa73521, on 10/12/2007, -18/+38Does anything say "I am gay" louder than "I hate gays"?
- scoot87, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29Download the audio of the Tim Hardaway interview:

So I guess you would award the Profiles in Courage Medal of Honor to the head of the American Nazi party, too - after all, he's saying something unpopular, too. And as for the president of the Flat Earth Society - man, his POV is so unpopular he should probably be sainted. Oh, and any athlete that says a rape victim had it coming to them deserves a statue in their honor on your front lawn, according to your illogic.
What a stupid way to measure courage. - Sneakernets, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Hey, it's his opinion. AT LEAST HE'S HONEST ABOUT IT. If he doesn't like something, There's nothing we can do about it.
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19the career killer crossover.......
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19It's surprised me to find out in the last 8 years that two of my best friends were gay. In normal everyday conversation, stuff like that never came up, we never thought it necessary since so much of our conversation was built around our common interests rather than sexual preferences.
After finding out that they were gay, it really did make things different, seeing as how such topics were suddenly either taboo or rarely discussed. It definitely becomes weird for awhile, but then you have to look past it. I've seen it from different levels because the two friends don't know each other personally, and they have different levels of acceptance of their lifestyle. One has gotten past the initial shock of telling people (except his parents) and has a BF. It was weird to say the least since I've known him longer than the other friend, but I follow a simple methodology. If I don't see anything, mentally, I'm okay with it. The other friend lives in complete denial of it because of the majority of his friends would ostracize him and never accept him for what he is. His situation depresses me, because I'm sure there's far too many people in our world like him, and they have to suffer their whole lives with these lies for the sake of small minded ***** like Tim Hardaway.
To Tim and all the other homophobes out there, go ***** yourselves. You ruin more lives and cause more pain than you can ever imagine with your words and "beliefs". There's no portion of a gay person's personal life that would ever intrude into yours, they aren't brainwashing your kids, they aren't causing terrorists to win, and they sure as hell aren't going to make you gay by simply being near them. I don't think any gay person's ever feared of being around straight people and making them straight, so why should you treat them the same? - teresa73521, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23The thought of you in the shower is gross
- meshman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20"IMHO gay people should be burnt alive. "
You first. - djcgmcse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Tolerance is being Tolerant towards Intolerance.
He has a right to say the way he feels.. and we have every right to disagree. - subliminalurge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14"Does anything say "I am gay" louder than "I hate gays"?"
Well, a stiff ***** in your ass and another in your mouth would probably make the point a little more blatantly.....
But, yeah, as a general rule it's pretty safe to say that the more outspokenly homophobic someone is, the more often they jerk off to fantasies about sucking *****. - Nesh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16"LOL? I really dont see what you people are trying to achive by supporting gay rights."
Maybe a tolerant environment where people aren't afraid to be themselves? - tolbs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17he hasn't played basketball for a good 10 years (or around that). Why hate on basketball for what happened 10 years ago. Today's NBA players have handled it ok. There was a 76er who said "as long as he doesn't get his gayness on me" and Lebron said he would "like to know who on his team was gay, because players should trust eachother", but that wasn't all that bad.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"around 10 years"
he retired in 2003. - Innatech, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13@monkeyflingpoo (crissakes)
No, it's not a paradox. FFS.
People find homosexuality threatening primarily within their own sex. Homosexuals of the opposite gender are less of a direct threat to heterosexuality--they're just marginalized competition. Thus, you have the stereotypes of women who have close friendships with gay men; and the cliche of men enjoying watching girls make out and "lesbian" pr0n, both of which tend to be forms of theater mostly enacted for mens entertainment. Unless of course your GF leaves you for another chick, in which case it's a pretty direct threat. Heh. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yes, he said something politically incorrect. But 55-75% of most states populations votes for gay marriage bans. Do you really think those people don't talk exactly the same way Mr. Hardaway does, except none of them have their ignorant personal thoughts broadcast on AM Radio. I'm not saying Hardaway should be forgiven... but his opinion is actually ridiculously common. It's just not commonly heard.
- RHollister, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11who really cares? He isn't leading our society. He was asked a question and responded with how he feels. What should we do about this? Is this what is going to replace the Anna Nicole Smith headline on every new station across America? I am not sure what is more disgusting, A washed-up ex-NBA player saying he is homophobic or a society where Entertainment Tonight looks strikingly similar to the nightly news.
- wilhoitm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Maybe he got excited down below in the locker room one time and it freaked him out?
- ascheinberg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12That's silly. If he said "I hate blacks" or "I hate Asians" would you also say "he doesn't like something?"
- lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -16/+24Why does this matter? Why do I care about some celebrity's point of view? Why is this on the front page of digg?
Since you care about his POV, here's mine - I like gay people - their people like everyone else, nothing wrong with them at all. - Maarek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13"LOL? I really dont see what you people are trying to achive by supporting gay rights. "
Possibly a truly free society where anyone, even ignorant dip ***** like you and Tim Hardaway, can live without fear of being persecuted for something as inconsequential as their sexual preference.
Call me a dreamer... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12To me it does not matter if your gay or not and you play in a major league sporting league. If your a good ball player, your a good ball player, regardless. People need to stop worrying about other people, and start worrying about themselves.
- lysdexia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The guys comments represent a rare display of honesty and candour. Not for him the politically correct path of (self) censorship.
Whether I agree with him or not is an irrelevance - but it's most curious to read of people slamming his right to express himself because it conflicts with how they wish to express themselves.
Fly your double standards high. - AdmiralAdama, on 10/12/2007, -25/+32former NBA player Tim Hardaway: I am an asshat
- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If people choose to be gay, could you explain why the percentage of homosexuals (5-10%) is more or less constant throughout the world, and probably has been throughout history? (Sure, the reported percentage is lower in more oppressive countries, but if you take the "closet factor" into account it evens out.)
Even in animals homosexuality is constant and widespread. Did the animals choose it too? Of course not.
It's probably impossible for you yourself to choose to suddenly like a different gender, why do you think it would be any easier for anyone else?
There are undoubtedly people who "choose to be gay", but these are most likely bisexuals, and feel ambivalent or confused as to what their sexuality is, and instead of going for both, they feel they have to "pick a lane and stick to it".
As for the reason for why some people are homosexual, and some bisexual, the most prevalent, and likely correct, theory is the Prenatal hormonal theory ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prenatal_hormones_and_sexual_orientation ). This theory says that one's sexual orientation is determined in the womb and is dependent on the level of exposure to certain hormones. Tests have been made on animals and the tests show that the sexual orientation can be controlled by manipulating these hormone levels. Naturally, there is a transitional area between exposure that creates homosexuals and exposure that creates heterosexuals. These would be bisexuals. - palegreenstarz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Whats funny is if he used any other word than 'hate', this wouldn't be as big of a deal. People hear the word hate, and freak out.
- MrM1yagi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Even though I do not agree with his opinion, he is still has the right to say what he wants. It seems that people get worked up over what celebrities say now a days. If you do not like it, ignore it and move on with life.
- Mudcrutch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think sometimes people confuse hating the idea of gayness with people that are actually gay.
- Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's not being blown out of proportion, it's people defending themselves. The statement he made was essentially positive reinforcement for a lot of people that admire him and perhaps hold similar views, they'll now be slightly further entrenched in their idea that homosexuals are unclean or whatever and it's going to be tougher to slowly encourage them to think more critically.
To use a common example of this sort of reinforcement, take Scientology (which is widely regarded as a scam). On their own, a scientologist might be able to be told that their religion is a load of crap, however when they go in and see all the other scientologists that believe Mr. Hubbard they're going to gain more confidence in their viewpoint and be harder to convince. The same concept works in all sorts of groups, hell it likely helps in things like Alcoholics Anonymous - you can see other people are able to survive without alcohol after being in your position and gain more confidence through that.
The fact is, a public figure static categorically that they believe being gay is wrong and that no homosexuals should exist anywhere is more than one person expressing their narrow sighted view via free speech, it's them reinforcing the idea that homosexuality is bad in all of the people that respect them. Hell, it's even giving people a poll that gives them even further reinforces the idea because the majority are voting to say that homosexuals would be obliterated in their perfect world.
So from that you could easily gather that it's not an overreaction, so far it's been an under-reaction. People simply should not be allowed to reinforce the idea that somebody is a lesser being because of what they are (homosexuals, black people) or how they choose to act (feminine guys, butch women, over-the-top stereotypes, etc.) I should point out that the aforementioned sentiment does not extend to cases where those choices lead to obvious harm to other persons involved like rapists, paedophiles, etc. (gotta cover all bases so people don't twist my words :)) -
