- chanop, on 04/28/2008, -3/+38If the U.S. makes 25 slam-dunks, China has agreed to free Tibet
- TheCooler72, on 04/28/2008, -2/+30Why the heck is Helio in the thumbnail of this post?
- theillest1, on 04/28/2008, -2/+18We better bring home the gold this year!
- piratearggghhh, on 04/28/2008, -3/+15Unfair advantage - the Chinese players have been smog training.
- LiquidChimera, on 04/28/2008, -1/+12That's cool, but I think the official wording was 25 Slamma-Jammas
- canewediggit, on 04/28/2008, -2/+12kidd has proven he's too old to hang w/ the likes of paul and deron. if he's not going to be a scoring threat, we don't need him.
i really wish they would ditch 'melo though. dudes a ballhog and over rated. - mysticalone, on 04/28/2008, -4/+13may the taller team win.
- ausfahrt, on 04/28/2008, -4/+13***** the USA free iraq!
- SeraphimJulius, on 04/28/2008, -2/+11If the USA team loses to China, we won't hear the end of it....
- meruru, on 04/28/2008, -0/+8World Champion != Olympic Champion. There was a world championship held in 2006
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_World_Basketball ... - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+9I was out watching the game the other day, and said the same thing. Kidd's age has caught up to him. The dude next to me said "31 isn't that old for a point guard". I said Kidd was a lot older than 31. The guy argued that he and Kidd played at the "same time" and he was only 31.
That was an easily won drink. Break out the laptop, and my next drink was on him. - Bukowsky, on 04/28/2008, -0/+8When I submitted the article... The Digg submission page didn't give me the option for including an image. When the submission went live... Some random guy from Indy Car appeared. I highly doubt he will be on the men's basketball team this summer.
- starghost, on 04/28/2008, -2/+9Why the hell is a picture of Indy Car racing driver Helio Castroneves alongside this story?
- Jwoey, on 04/28/2008, -3/+9I'm interested to see who the starting point guard will be. Last year it was a blessing to have Jason Kidd join the team... but Chris Paul has clearly proved he's the better point guard this year.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+7Pffttt thats hardly the divisive and spiteful spirit of digg sports now is it? I mean REALLY...
- EarlOfLade, on 04/28/2008, -2/+6No, but they lost to Spain in the last WC and they will lose again in the Olympics. Has nothing to do with anti-USA, just a sport observation.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4When submitting a story to Digg, Digg auto scans the article page for an image and chooses the first one it finds, subject to certain size and dimension constraints.
That is why. - Jwoey, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Someone already pointed this out earlier but I assume you'll not see it, so.
Argentina is the olympic champion, Spain is the world champion. - jlee2081, on 04/28/2008, -3/+6No Yao = Slaughter
- TheDeadDodo, on 04/28/2008, -4/+7Barring a flu outbreak on the American side or Yao Ming scoring 150 points on his own, it looks like China's not going to win this one. On top of that, they have Spain to deal with afterwards.
- wellyuk, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3Did you not hear? Because he's playing point guard for the US olympic team.
- FearFactory, on 04/28/2008, -3/+6IF the USA team wins against China, we might not ever see or hear from them ever again...
- atact88, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3***** Canada! Free Quebec!
- theotheragentm, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3Uh, we need Kareem as much as we need Bill Walton right now.
- dArt8, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3...defending WORLD champion Spain...
- shlemielo, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2I dunno. This season has been absolutely tremendous for the NBA. That coupled with the embarrassment at the last Olympics and World Championships should motivate the US players to dominate this year.
- topgun553, on 04/28/2008, -1/+3I hope we can field a good team this year...
It sucks that not everyone who should be on the team decides to go.
I would like to see the u.s. bring back the gold. - Bukowsky, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2well... usually when you submit an article, the digg submission process gives you options to choose from any of the images on the page. Sometimes they show up... sometimes they don't. If they don't, you can hit refresh (F5) and alot of the time they will show up.
But in this case, yes.. Digg didn't give me the option of any thumbnails, even after I hit refresh. After the article was submitted this guy appeared.... To be honest. I didn't even know his name until now. - Jwoey, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Stockton, Magic Johnson, Nash, Mark Jackson, Guy Rodgers, Rod Strickland, Jason kidd = only point guards to average more than 10 assists per game over the age of 31.
Throw in Bob Cousy, Lenny Wilkens, & Gary Payton for players who averaged over 9 assists per game past the age of 31.
I just thought I'd add that. Its not like 9apg is the threshold for good PG, but still.
Stockton averaged 7.7apg at 40. - Jwoey, on 04/28/2008, -1/+3Regardless of that, it'll be almost no contest. China is getting better, but they're nowhere near what the US is. The line will probably be ~30.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -2/+3Melo needs to be taken off the team. Too much of an attitude.
- 3tcp, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2LA air is to China air what Denver air is to Kenya air.
- Bukowsky, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Actually... you should probably do your research.
While Argentina won at the last Olympic event in 2004, Spain actually won in the last WORLD tournament in 2006, hence making them the current WORLD champion... You Can Read about it on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_World_Basketball ... - defy, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2Actually, Yao Ming is surprisingly agile for his size and height. He's more proportionately distributed than many tall players, and has some well-rounded skills. What game are you watching?
- BXRWXR, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2-1 for being letarded.
- 1gunners4, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2Dude probably boned Julianne Hough; he should be in every picture!
- Wargalas, on 04/28/2008, -3/+4It never went out of style.
- Bukowsky, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1NO... Argentina won in the last Olympic Event in 2004... Spain won in the last WORLD basketball tournament in 2006... THUS making them the current WORLD champion...
Read about it on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_World_Basketball ... - sonstone, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Anyone know when they publish the roster?
- nobleexperiment, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2Sun Yue is on the China National team and he'll slap that rock out of Chris Paul's hands. Get used to that when he puts on his Lakers uniform next season.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -8/+9Is anti-USA stuff still fashionable on Digg?
- card51short, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1And 31 is pretty old for a point guard...not many over 30 PGs have been good in the league. Kidd's still in the top 10, though.
- Bukowsky, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1When I submitted the article... The Digg submission page didn't give me the option for including an image... When the submission went live... Some random guy from Indy Car appeared. I highly doubt he will be on the men's basketball team this summer.
- TheDeadDodo, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I disagree. He's a great passer, good shooter from midrange in, has nice timing on blocks and is strong enough to muscle his way into the paint. However, lateral movement is his Achilles' heel, and the foot injuries haven't helped.
- Klainmeister, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2are you ***** kidding me?
- EarlOfLade, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Number of Olympic gold medals:
USA: 216 Population: 300 million
Norway: 280 Population: 4.5 million
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-time_Olympic_Game ...
USA is far from the best as you claim. - DavidG85, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1I don't think Sergio Rodríguez will be playing at the olympics... There is a bunch of guards currently playing the Spanish league who are far better prepared than him (he's been playing less than 10 minutes per game this year!) : Ricky Rubio, Raül López, Carlos Cabezas...
- gregkr, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Can't wait to see USA vs. Spain. Spain is loaded w/ Calderon, Gasol (x2), Rudy Fernandez, Navarro, Sergio Rodriguez. That's an NBA playoff team right there. Probably would beat most of the Eastern teams as well.
- 3tcp, on 04/28/2008, -1/+1Throw bodies at 'em until their guns overheat = send drones to foul out until the US arms are so tired they can't shoot free throws anymore. Basketball's version of rope-a-dope
- jejeje666, on 04/28/2008, -0/+0"do my research".... no, I just misunderstood your statement. Being that the article is about the olympics, I thought that's the 'championship' you were talking about.
