- Wavemancali, on 08/10/2008, -3/+62Pounces? I think the word you were looking for may have been trounces. Unless they were all cute and kitten like and treated the Chinese team like a ball of string... I mean I didn't catch the game I could be wrong.
- jac13226, on 08/10/2008, -3/+50lebron james, carmello anthony, dwayne wade, kobe bryant. gg world.

- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -5/+38Trounces?
- proficient, on 08/10/2008, -4/+34AMERICA.... **** YEAH.
But on a serious note, at least they got a 31 point win. This sends a message to the other competitors... that the USA is serious about retaking global basketball dominance. I heard that Kobe said that he won't sign an extension with the Lakers without first looking at European markets... if the USA wins I think a really strong message will be sent out, especially after the disappointment of the 2006 FIBA World. - superjanna, on 08/10/2008, -2/+22Wikipedia says the inventor was Canadian, but he invented it at a YMCA in Massachusetts.
So which country gets to claim it??? - AAK15, on 08/10/2008, -10/+24USA!
USA!!
USA!!! - stormgren, on 08/10/2008, -0/+13Yeah, just like the 2004 games!
We cruised to that... bronze medal! - sonar1, on 08/10/2008, -2/+14let the games beijing
- DoubleYouSee, on 08/10/2008, -4/+14Well, here is my thought... many olympians train in the US for many reasons, despite the fact that they represent another country. When they win a medal, it's their home country that gets the credit, not the country they were in when they did the work. So if it's alright with you, we'll take credit for the Basketball thing as Naismith was a Canadian merely working in the US at the time he invented it.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -2/+11Suprised?
- stellarceltic, on 08/10/2008, -8/+17They're all American. That's what matters.
Douche. - 9bpm9, on 08/10/2008, -1/+9How the hell is Bush attending every damn event?
- DoubleYouSee, on 08/10/2008, -11/+18"Two nights after China put on a spectacular opening ceremony, it shared the spotlight with the nation that invented basketball."
Apparently the new format is to have three teams play at once... how many points did Canada score? Anybody? - theragu40, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7Correction, China was busting 3 pointers like nothing...in the first half. As soon as their outside shooting dried up, they got completely manhandled.
- dannychen16, on 08/10/2008, -1/+7jason kidd is black?
- JohnnyKinder, on 08/10/2008, -2/+7So I feel the need to post, because it seems like many of you dont watch sports much.
Yes, NBA players play in the Olympics.
No we are not the only team using professional players, as we are not the only country with a professional league.
Most other countries use both NBA players and professional (PAID) players from there respective leagues (ie Euroleague)
Some countries even have US born NBA players playing on there olympic team.
And if any of you forgot, we took bronze 4 years ago, so yes, the competition is good. - superjanna, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5/declares war on canada, once and for all
- MikeinLoFi, on 08/10/2008, -1/+6Jason Kidd?
- Miamisun, on 08/10/2008, -2/+7D.Wade 7-7 FGM 5-5 FTM in 20 min...Not bad at all.
Worst part of the Olympics is not really knowing when anything is on or if it is live or taped. I got lucky by inadvertently going past NBC and seeing that it was half time. - bainfu, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5Where have you been? This has been happening since 1992. From Wikipedia:
In 1989, FIBA, international basketball's governing body, allowed professional NBA players to participate in the Olympics for the first time. But in order for this to happen, FIBA agreed not to perform any anti-doping controls, which is still the case. Prior to the 1992 Olympics, only European and South American professionals were allowed to play in the Olympics. - ilistenisee, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4lol...it was expected. I'm surprised China's got 50% of US's score. Chinese plp love basketball and soccer, but they have been lagging behind in both sports. I think China has improved a lot in basketball...soccer, not so much.
- JohnnyKinder, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4so China's team has 4 rostered NBA players on there team. Russia actually has 3 American born african american former NBA players on there squad. Spain is made up of almost all NBA players, as well as Argentina....so the question I must ask you - Do you get headaches when you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_SwD7RveNE
- toastybeast, on 08/10/2008, -5/+9I got to watch this earlier. It was like the globetrotters vs. a middle school team.
- shango5, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4A Canadian invented it and America is the birthplace so we can all be happy with shared credit.
- HayString, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Chris Paul
- pighead77, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4The really nice and wonderful thing (if you notice) is that the Chinese audience cheered equally for Team China as for Team USA.
Culture/sports exports are 100 times more powerful than depleted uranium shells. - Timdegreat, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4It was a Canadian that invented basketball! Get it right SI. :P
- FuhQ, on 08/10/2008, -2/+6I would'nt say that. China was busting 3 pointers like nothing.
It was more like the Globetrotters vs. A Junior Varsity High School team - oschmittyo, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4was a great game to watch! Looked like they were playing street ball haha
- AsianChopsticks, on 08/11/2008, -0/+4Its not like he's needed back in America...
- toastybeast, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4yeah you probably should. also, buy some more tampons...sounds like you're out.
- hmunkey, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Slaves? They're making more money in a year than you will in a lifetime.
- bcos, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Chris Paul did a great job this game "behind the scenes" (defense, passing) but didn't get mentioned much in the media outlets, so just throwing him some props.
- DoTheFandango, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Certain sports have guidelines for what level of amateur is allowed to play. The olympics did this to get more viewers, and you can't deny it works.
- nedzeve, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2He's half. I bet he has a hard time getting a cab. And that's all that matters.
- ObiNguyen, on 01/07/2009, -1/+4It'd be even better if all the news outlets didn't spoil the results on their homepages. Still, it was great to see Dwayne Wade back in form.
- HigherLogic, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3This would have been true some years ago, but not only is the NBA today mixed with people from all over the world, but there are some really good leagues/teams/players around the world. It's not just a US thing anymore.
- xGeneric, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3What?
- WillDearborn, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3I've got comcast and they have an entire channel just for olympic basketball. They are airing all the games. So that plus DVR and you can see all the games no matter what time they are on.
- StyngerSmash, on 08/11/2008, -0/+3Team USA still won't win the gold.
- bignerd, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3That is most likely going to be the final.. And will probably be a good game..
- ironeus, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3yes "pounces on" thank you.
- toastybeast, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3that doesn't make sense, and you posted it twice. wonderful.
- Pake, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Why can't NBCOlympics.com post this in EST time or at least make it more obvious that their times are Beijing time? I thought the freaking game was tonight at 10pm EST, not 10pm their time.
- eraser34, on 08/10/2008, -2/+4Need video highlights!
- atb12688, on 08/10/2008, -1/+3Most of the games this time are going to be a joke for Team USA. And I say that with all respect possible. They are number 1 clearly, and I don't think there are many teams that will get close to them. Lebron, Kobe, DWade, Bosh, Prince, etc. It shouldn't be much of a surprise considering every player on Team USA is in the NBA.
- JohnnyKinder, on 08/10/2008, -2/+4Yea, considering all the other nations have players being payed and play professionally.....are you English or retarded?
- Oea420, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2don't be stupid, would you rather have all amateurs in there and a crappy game to boot?
- bignerd, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Why is it a joke? The other countries play their best players, why shouldn't we? I thought the purpose of the Olympics was to pit country x's best athletes versus country y's best athletes. So by your logic pro soccer players (from any country) should not be able to play. Are you saying that only amateurs should play? If so, how would you define amateur?
