Tracy McGrady: Playoffs Put Him in "Tough Situation"
chron.com — "It's my fault, we missed free throws. It's my fault we lost both games. It's my fault we fouled to tie the game up. That's my fault. It's my fault they get easy layups. It's my fault we're not executing well on the offensive end. It's my fault a couple people in the stands ordered Heinekens and they got Budweiser. It's my fault. I'm sorry."

- davey68, on 04/24/2008, -9/+11The Jazz could Go all the way to the finals this year they are way good at home. they have only lost 4 games at home. I predict Jazz win the series on Saturday.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5Only problem is that in the second round they won't have home court and the lakers were one of the teams that ruined the Jazzes home court win streak. Either way, the West is so exciting right now as a fan of basketball I'm going crazy.
- digidigg, on 04/24/2008, -4/+3he's a great player, no doubt. if he really wants to win, he should try to be traded and opt play for a lot less money to get on a real contender. could you imagine him on the spurs, lakers, suns, pistons, or even the celtics?
the point being, if he really wants to get past the 2nd round, play for $5 that year...the guy is already minted.- javier182gt, on 04/24/2008, -1/+4No doubt about it. Tim Duncan really could have demanded for more this year but to make his team better he did just that. There is no way T-Mac would do that. As a Rockets fan this is killing me. If it was not for that 22 game winning streak, this season could have been a total bust. It was on Digg too!

- umbriago, on 04/24/2008, -10/+5Well, if you played more as a team and less as five guys showboating each other maybe it wouldn't be your fault.
- senorpuerco, on 04/24/2008, -2/+5If you are going to comment on the games, at least watch them first. The Rockets have been playing very well as a team, that's how they kept winning after Yao went down. Guys like Luis Scola, Carl Landry, Shane Battier, and Chuck Hayes are all great team players. Even in this last game against the Jazz, McGrady was not just shooting. He was rebounding, passing to his guys, playing defense. The problem is that the Rockets are missing Alston and they came up against a team that is just better right now. The Jazz have roughed up these Rockets, some of whom are playing in their first playoff series, and McGrady isn't enough of a superstar to win the game when his guys are missing free throws and layups. Unfortunately, Tracy makes it worse by crying about it, just like last year. If he doesn't want people blaming him, then he should give back half his salary and be a role player.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Agreed. Though i think the comment holds true for the Nuggets. They're play terrible team ball and if they don't shape up they're going to lose badly to the Lakers.

- ELLIS1128, on 04/24/2008, -1/+6sounds a little more serious than a 'tough situation'.
- manjy90, on 04/24/2008, -3/+28T-Mac is 4th alltime in ppg in the Playoffs. I hate it when the best player on a team is singled out because his team sucks. No one blamed Barry Sanders for the Lions. No one blamed D Wade for the Heats(this year). So no one should be blaming T-Mac for not beating a Jazz team that overmatches his Rockets in almost every position outside his own.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -2/+1Really? I blame Wade.
Just kidding, I hope he doesn't turn into the Hardaway that the media is making him out to be.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -2/+1Really? I blame Wade.
- biofusion, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5As a Rockets fan myself, it is shaping up once again to be a disappointing first round. Tmac should be getting out of the second round but he is constantly put in a role where he has to carry everything on his back. I think he is a great player, maybe he needs to rise above everything and show that he can be a legendary player.
- Verchiel77, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Don't follow Houston too closely, but, it seems to me, if the equivalent of "legendary" is what's being asked for, eventually the guy's gonna snap and say something like he did.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -1/+1The man is legendary! Don't get me wrong I'm no fan of the Rockets but the way some people put these guys up on some sort of godly level is unfair. All players are human and they all get frustrated, especially when you're playing at such a high level and can't produce the w. I'm surprised that he had his composure for this long.

- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3It may not be this year but next year I think the Rockets are a title contending team; having Yao out is really unfortunate for the Rockets. Unfortunately the West is saturated by title teams it seems.

- brownsound00, on 04/24/2008, -0/+13i'm just gonna say... it would be different with yao.
- Bukowsky, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6and rafer alston.
- Bengals1us, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3Yeah, because last year the first round series with Yao and Rafer ended in the Rockets winning!..... right?
- brownsound00, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1well, there are alot more improved. they didn't go on a 22-0 run last year. and the west wasn't as ridiculously good as it is this year. so they have just proven how much they have improved. plus, wasn't that yao's first series anyways? he improves after every game. plus the fact he's their go to big guy.
@ humperdeath - hakeem is also a big blow too. he's probably one of the best vets in the nba now. (in terms of leadership and experience)

- humperdeath, on 04/24/2008, -0/+8And they are missing Hakeem Olajiwon too.
- jc7012, on 04/25/2008, -2/+2Are yao serious?
- trevorjez, on 04/24/2008, -0/+23"It's my fault a couple people in the stands ordered Heinekens and they got Budweiser." - I was wondering why this happened.
- Verchiel77, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5That was a great line.
- prefan21, on 04/24/2008, -12/+2What a whiner.
- jrdbrn, on 04/24/2008, -5/+0The Rockets won 22 games in a row this year. TMac didn't win 22 games.. the team won 22 games... so all of you saying they are not good, well, wth? If TMac feels he blew the games, then he prob did.
- mariowario, on 04/24/2008, -0/+12T-Mac is no problem. The problem is the players around him. And now with yao gone it's an even bigger problem. Rockets need to spend some money during the off-season and get supporting players around T-mac who can score on a "consistent" basis. Just like lakers built around kobe. If kobe is gonna have an off night, theres gasol and big O to step up. If T-mac has an off night...its gg
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Serious, I've felt bad for many players in the NBA. Malone, T-Mac, Gasol, Garnett, etc.
Lucky for Garnett and Gasol that they upgraded their teams.- cnoteakacash, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3I agree except for Malone the team around him was very solid. John Stockton all time assist leader, Jeff Hornacek a terrific outside shooter and solid role players that Jerry Sloan used masterfully. Malone's problem was The Chicago Bulls and specifically Michael Jordan, that team had the greatest player and the most solid team I mean 72 wins during one of the years the Jazz made it to the finals.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3Thats the sad part, but I dugg you up. It was unfortunate that he had to live through that godly Bulls team and now that you mention it, I feel for all those people too. Those names will go down in my memory though, too bad they don't have a keep sake for themselves.
- gupan85, on 04/25/2008, -0/+0I guess Michael Jordan typed "whosyourdaddy" before every season.... just kidding, MJ is the greatest of all time. But I think Sir Charles deserved a championship. I felt really sad when he retired.

- CYR1X, on 04/24/2008, -2/+20People need to get off of TMac's back.
- rpark, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1You sure its not an Orangutan.
- indraneel24, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Houston should hope that cures his chronic back problems.
- funknjunk, on 04/24/2008, -1/+4Ah cmon now, what do you expect? Yao and Alston are out. Cut yourself some slack :)
- cstout47, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2Everyone was more than happy to point out that Yao and Alston were out and pat Tracy ME-Grady when the Rockets went on their streak. Now they want to use them being out as an excuse to why they are losing in the playoffs, pulling T-Crap off the hook. 1 point combined between two 4th quarters this offseason and memories of him quitting on the Magic, I'm not buying it.
- Cowboy1015, on 04/24/2008, -2/+2Who does he think he is! It's Yao's fault at the most for missing the playoffs!
- chr0nic21, on 04/24/2008, -6/+1Eyy...cant blame him too much...hes no Kobe
- SnuKs, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2What a homer. Take away Odom, Gasol, and Fisher and see if the Lakers make it outta the first round this year based on how scary good the West is. You make us real Laker fans look bad =P
- CletusTSJY, on 04/24/2008, -2/+2Step up to the plate, man, you're one of the premiere players in the league. I think it's clear from his attitude that nothing's going to change in Houston. Oh it won't be his fault though...
- Stupidtourist, on 04/24/2008, -6/+1T-Mac is never going to get out of the first round. Especially not against the Utah Jazz, who own the Rockets (with or without Yao). He's more interested in making excuses than making winning plays. Jazz sweep this one.
- ogremidget, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Yeah, and who gets a barb-wire tattoo? Really.
- scrotumbrau, on 04/24/2008, -1/+5I blame Bush, not T-Mac.
- Bengals1us, on 04/24/2008, -5/+0Well I can say that it is T-Craps fault for scoring a total of 1 point in both 4th quarters combined. Superstars are made in crunchtime, Tracy McBaby is not a superstar!
- rahamm, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Finally now that he sees these problems his fault maybe we can all get past this.
- dezz, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Who are all the people blaming him? Every time I see a sports news show, they are saying he's doing his job. Anyone have any good articles that are just ripping him apart?
- adammerkley, on 04/24/2008, -4/+1I hesitate to post this, since not a lot of people know about it yet, but the Jazz's Deron Williams is on Twitter. His username is DeronWIlliams.
- themaestro18, on 04/24/2008, -6/+1Jazz all the way to the Western Finals vs. Spurs.
T-Mac is going to be out again.

Tea gives me a headache. -T. Mack - jaalin, on 04/25/2008, -2/+1i really try to stop hating on tmac, but watching him play pisses me off. he's a very very good player, but he's nowhere near "great" - kobe, ginobili, lebron, chris paul, etc. check out the +/- numbers the NBA has recently started to track:
http://www.nba.com/statistics/lenovo/lenovo_sort.j ...
by the sheer +/- numbers (IMO the only stat that really matters - guys like iverson can drop 40 points a game and his team still wont win), tmac is third on his team, and by +/- per minute he is FIFTH (yao is even worse). what this basically means is that guys like skip and battier contribute more to the rocket's point differential than tmac (yao not even worth mentioning). on the other hand, guys like kobe, CP3, lebron, ginobili are at the top of their teams (for reference sake, eddy curry was by far the bottom of the knicks these past 2 seasons, even though putting up a fairly respectable stat line).
most of my frustration with mcgrady comes from his frequent injuries and his LACK OF HUNGER - nobody says he's a pansy, but to be THE BEST you have to go out there and want it more than any other player on the court. i'm talking about the look in kobe's or kg's eyes when someone scores on them. or when lebron drops 25 in a row on the pistons. or when ginobili sticks it right in shaq's face with 2 seconds left in the second overtime. tmac lacks that fire and it's what his team of ragtags needs. i really don't think yao going out hurts them all that much, considering a VERY GOOD scola and finger-wagging brick wall mutombo are right there to back him up.
so yea, it's pretty all tmac's fault, but its nothing he can do about it, because that's just who he is. he doesn't choose to get injured and screw up his team chemistry. he doesn't choose to just give 85% on most nights and 95% when it really matters. it's just who he is, and he's frustrated and defeated because he's perceived as a "great" player and charged with all their responsibilities, when in fact, he's just a very good player.- rpark, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2That is a mighty fine wall of text you got there. Nice and big.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2McGrady hasn't changed since he was in Orlando.
- orph3us, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Mcgrady is a great player. Makes insane shots look easy. His problem though, is that he doesn't make any of the players around him better the way Jordan learned or the way Kobe is starting to learn or how Lebron has seemingly always done...
- ScottoGato, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2Tracy McGrady is like the greatest player ever that is cockeyed.
- birdmanrush, on 04/25/2008, -1/+1If Yao and Alston were in there this would not be an issue. ***** the Jazz (I am a lifelong Rockets fan)
- aughsum, on 04/25/2008, -1/+0the rockets will never leave the first round.
trade tmac to he picstons for tayshaun, rebuild. - kanariya, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Rockets beat Jazz at home.
