- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -7/+42If players haven't learned to respect him by now then I don't know what else to say. Still hasn't won a title without Shaq though!
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -1/+36He has really turned his "public perception" around a full 180 degrees. Good job!
- LMControl, on 08/24/2008, -2/+34I earned a lot of respect from him watching the game today. He refused to let the USA get down on themselves and when he had to he willed his team to win by brute force! He was simply awesome. Yeah, he gets a lot of comparisons to Jordan and it's probably not fair, but I've never quite seen anyone as good at making their teammates competitively tough as he was today.
Congrats Team USA! - harryterry, on 08/24/2008, -0/+32I think winning a Gold Medal is a much bigger accomplishment in his book over another NBA Title and being on a team where being selfish won't work, he deserves everyone's respect...and love him or hate him, he is a ***** damn good player
- minoss, on 08/24/2008, -2/+23Money can't buy talent.
- RMoore08, on 08/24/2008, -0/+19I noticed he was very sportsmanlike throughout the whole game. Helping up the Spaniards from the ground, even if they didn't show it back, he was always showing respect.
- AdInventive, on 08/24/2008, -0/+17Spain was anything but under trained. Most of them have been playing with each other competitively for the past 10 years...
try again - tomazws, on 08/24/2008, -3/+19Awwwwww....... Someone DO like Kobe....
- slym2k, on 08/24/2008, -1/+16Did you watch ANY of the games?
- hotjava23, on 08/24/2008, -1/+16Watching Kobe troughout the Olympics, it was clear in looking at him that he valued and cherised every moment that he had representing U.S.A. basketball. Say whatever you want about the guy but he has an undeniably genuine love for the game.
- stukdog, on 08/24/2008, -0/+14Overall, the team was so impressive on and off the court. I went to a lot of the practices and exhibition games here in Las Vegas and it was great watching the team gel over the last few years. And when they were out in China, they've been absolute model athletes, competitors and teammates with all the USA team. (Not just basketball either.) They really represented the US well.
- harrison5394, on 08/24/2008, -1/+14When will the world understand that falling in love with Kobe doesn't mean we have to break up with Michael Jordan. They are both amazing.
- LMControl, on 08/24/2008, -1/+14Wow.... just when I thought it wasn't possible for you to demonstrate how ignorant one human can possibly be, you step up to the plate and deliver! Congrats.....
- billjimbob, on 08/24/2008, -2/+13But I'm sure Kobe would rather a gold medal rather than another NBA championship, considering he already has 3.
- jonmac, on 08/24/2008, -1/+11I'm not the biggest Kobe fan, but he performed with class this olympics.
Well done and congrats. - kevinwiz, on 08/24/2008, -1/+10Digg makes me sad.
- wuvamber, on 08/24/2008, -0/+7Definitely changed my perception of him; I guess I kind of respect him now.
- TheGooseyOne, on 08/24/2008, -1/+8Notice something interesting about this article?
It's terribly written. - MasterPlayer, on 08/24/2008, -0/+7Congrats to the US team for bringing home the gold. I really think there should be a slam dunk competition in the Olympics, that would be amazing!
- lonedust, on 08/24/2008, -6/+12Why does the writer compare Kobe to Phelps/Bolt?
They're in two different worlds. Might as well compare Kobe to the Chinese gymnastics girls. - iPatella, on 08/24/2008, -1/+7I disagree, I think that Wade was more impressive than the both of them. Like when they were down by 4 and he hit that clutch 3 to put them ahead by 7. Plus he had 27 points off the bench which really helped Kobe Bryant when he was in early foul trouble. If they had an MVP for that Championship game I think wade would get it.
- SimpleDiggName, on 08/24/2008, -3/+9Ok can we all just stop with this Kobe rapist crap. I'm really tired of it since Kobe really strived and earned the Olympic Gold. He has really changed his public appearance around. Give him props for that.
- OneLess, on 08/24/2008, -0/+6What Bosh said about wanting to play hard for a guy who's a hard worker sounds a lot like what Colts players say about Tony Dungy; I think there's something really admirable about the type of guy who can get that kind of dedication and spirit out of fellow players (or the players they're coaching).
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -9/+14***** you, man.
- ObamaWins08, on 08/24/2008, -0/+5She was 19.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant_sexual_as ... - noloveIII, on 08/24/2008, -1/+5I doubt Kobe is underage
- Seekness, on 08/24/2008, -4/+8Kobe will never be MJ...but, he brings an intensity and clutch factor to the game that very few players in the history of the game ever have. He's a special player and as he's matured (he's now 30), he's clearly developed his game to the point where he can now make those around him better. Sounds like some of it rubbed off in the Olympics and anyone who watched last night's game saw that Kobe was the man who kept the game out of reach during the last few minutes. Plus, he can do this! http://www.rootzoo.com/videos/view/NBA-Basketball/ ...
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -2/+6You are poking a girl in the front and you pop in the back does not a rapist make. Maybe a jerk and disrespectful, but not a rapist...
- gurp13, on 08/24/2008, -1/+5Because they are all gold medalists. That makes the comparison. Note, he does not say that Kobe is a better swimmer than Phelps, or runner than Bolt just that he also won a gold medal but his impact has been different but just as remarkable. If you follow basketball generally and the Lakers specifically.
- gurp13, on 08/24/2008, -0/+4Are you kidding? Do you have any idea how expensive the ring was that he bought Vanessa? And he has his daughter's name tattooed on his arm. What more can you ask of the man?
- akamurph, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4changed my perception of him a lot! He showed a lot of respect in interviews, and actually knew the words to the National Anthem. ...and after digging into a lot of that rape case, that chick was a slut and got what she wanted, $$$.
- OTRtwist, on 08/24/2008, -1/+5BOOMSHACKALACKA
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -2/+6Yes, and your sister
- OnlyShawn, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4...thank you so much for not saying "a 360 degree turn"
- getatmedigg, on 08/24/2008, -0/+4Just won a gold medal..does that count?
- jameday, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4remember two things:
1) a great thing about america is that you are innocent until proven guilty
2) Kobe was never found guilty of rape. in fact, the accuser wouldn't testify.... - Tubal22, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3Wade's good, but I'd take Kobe 100 out of 100 times over Wade.
- joekix, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4really, is that why they won in 2004?
- Jookly, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4He compares them because they all excel at their sports.
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4What the hell is that garbage?
- hotjava23, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3I think the man is just happy to still being able to play and represent U.S.A. after everything he's been through. I'm happy just to watch him play, the guy is amazing on the court.
- shamanking911, on 08/25/2008, -0/+3"You hear a lot of things about Kobe, but I had no idea he was such a basketball junkie," said guard Chris Paul. "He studies all the film, talks basketball all the time, knows everything."
- slym2k, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3Wade has one record that MJ doesn't have.. I've never seen someone trip and fall as many times as Wade did at the game. It was like he was playing on ice.
- cli006, on 08/24/2008, -1/+4Women go to Kobe Bryant, why on earth would he have to resort to raping a girl? Did you miss how the entire country of China worships him? Imagine being KB24 in a LA nightclub, would you really have to rape a girl? Or more realistically, would a mob of groupies all try and take you home?
Plus, you can't show up with like six different semen samples on your panties during trial. - SifooD, on 08/24/2008, -2/+4This is the kind of clueless responses that I find common among many diggers.
- offthewagon, on 08/24/2008, -4/+6http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYZ3V1Lhb3M
- SreyaNotfilc, on 08/25/2008, -0/+2Good point harrison5394. It's like, there's room enough for Jello! Seriously though, I believe that's the reason why many are reluctant to be awed by Kobe. Since he is the closest thing we have to Jordan on the court some folks just can't embrace him. LBJ is a totally different kind of player, so liking him is much easier. Even before the rape case, folks just couldn't stand that another player could potentially be as good or better than Jordan. But, by rejecting Kobe, they are truely missing out on a great basketball performer.
- offthewagon, on 08/24/2008, -12/+14Come on, this was written by the LA Times. This story couldn't be more fluff if it was paired with peanut butter and bananas and thrown on Wonder Bread.
- SreyaNotfilc, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2LOL, I knew this was one of Plaschke's articles before I'd even clicked the link!
- chief100, on 08/24/2008, -2/+4Hey Kobe - tell me how my ass tastes!
