- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -3/+22Willis Reed at #3 was an inspiration to athletes everywhere.
Paul Pierce playing through an injury last year was similar to this. - irfanmp, on 09/17/2008, -4/+20No mention of Dwayne Wade in the '06 NBA Finals? Even ESPN ranked his performance as the top Finals performance in history.
- Slashered, on 09/17/2008, -0/+12Miller and Jordon destroying my childhood year after year. Especially Reggie, god damnit.
- ggacid, on 09/18/2008, -0/+11I personally thought Reggie Millers 8 points in 8.9 seconds to win the game should have ranked higher than 24.
- thegamingguy, on 09/17/2008, -1/+12I have seen every single playoff game that Michael Jordan played in, pretty much most of the finals games in the last decade or so, and many of the classics. The one that stands out to me the most is the one they have listed at #17, MJ's flu game. It is the guttiest basketball performance I remember seeing.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+8Magic is the first and last point guard to ever play center...in the NBA Finals, no less.
- badwithcomputer, on 09/17/2008, -0/+8this should help keep me busy in the off season.
- byoung618, on 09/18/2008, -3/+10Where is LeBron Jame's game against the Detroit Pistons where he scored 48 points, including his team's final 25 and 29 of its final 30 in double overtime?
This list is weak. - Imnick, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6This list is sickening for the fact ALONE that Lebron's game 5 against the Pistons in the ECF is not on this list. That was one of the greatest single performances is recent history and its not even on the list... what a joke.
- noxcel, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6This list is for greatest playoff moments by players, not refs...
- bunnyandzombie, on 09/18/2008, -0/+6Wade's performance definitely deserves a mention, but ESPN was wrong about it being the best ever.
- Imnick, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5agreed... this list looses all respect just because it left that performance out.
- HBeeOh, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5That was amazing. One of the only times in my entire life where I felt bad for a Knicks fan (only momentarily).
- rdizzle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5Once again, Jordan gets major credit for a blown call where he pushed off Bryan Russell. It will forever live in infamy as evidence that NBA refs turn a blind eye to superstars.
- IUAndar, on 09/18/2008, -0/+5I still remember Reggie's 8 points in 9 seconds and talking about it the next day in school.
I also think Reggie's last game vs the Pistons should have made the list. I teared up when they took that last timeout to honor him. Oh, and he put up a performance that made me think he was 10 years younger again. - ggacid, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4Game 3 was BS with the phantom fouls...
- arensquared, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4I still can't forget Magic's Junior skyhook over 3 Celtics to give the LAkers their championship, Reggie Miller's shove and three over Jordan, Mike's finale over the Jazz' Russell, Horry's Buzzer-beating 3 over the Kings, and Derek Fisher's .4 second shot over the Spurs... Those were the great moments..
- jon31rm, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4Knicks fan, I presume?
- AdmiralHalsey, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4Im from Chicago and was able to go to a few of those golden Bulls playoff games. Growing up with the Bulls dynasty was such a treat. One of my favorites was Jordan's closed eyes free throw..
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/224318/jordan_free_t ... - Wsmonkeyboy, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4That Derek Fisher .4 shot still gives me goosebumps.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4tim duncan hitting that 3 was f'd up...
- jazzfunkblues, on 09/18/2008, -0/+4that deserves to be on the list, as does the end of game 5 in the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals. Bulls lost the first 2 games in New York, scrapped and clawed to tie the series at 2-2 back in Chicago, then Game 5 at MSG came down to the wire with the Bulls holding a 1 point lead and the Knicks had the ball with under 10 seconds...i'll never forget Marv Albert's call -
"Here's Ewing, under the hoop for Smith! Smith, Smith! Smith! stopped! Smith! stopped again by Pippen! What a play by Scottie Pippen!"
http://www.sbindependent.org/node/1877
Bulls wound up winning the series the next game, without that brilliant defensive stand the 1st 3-peat probably never would've happened. - HBeeOh, on 09/18/2008, -0/+3Free throws don't make for good highlights and this list is specific games/plays not entire series.
- sbaysem, on 09/18/2008, -0/+3quite a collection indeed... m/ this is good material to pump me up during pre game... m/
- salmanjafri, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3That was a regular season game, not a playoff game.
- ProjectGSX, on 09/18/2008, -1/+4Bad camera angle for the Memorial Day Miracle @54. When Elliot set up for the shot his heels were actually out of bounds, but he went straight from his toes into the shot.. absolutely amazing.
Also funny to see that, for 2 of the Spurs clips, Rasheed Wallace is on the losing end. Once leaving Robert Horry wide open and the other missing the close out on Elliot. - thewhits, on 09/18/2008, -0/+3No Warriors being the only 8 seed to knock of a 1 seed in a 7 game series? WTF, that was one of the most improbable and amazing upsets in NBA history, and it get left off?!?
Buried - HBeeOh, on 09/18/2008, -1/+4Leaderboard
6 - Michael Jordan (1, 10, 17, 20, 22, 41)
4 - Larry Bird (4, 27, 40, 56)
3 - Reggie Miller (24, 30, 60)
2 - Magic Johnson (2, 8)
2 - Robert Horry (25, 28) - jon31rm, on 09/18/2008, -0/+3#57 Pacers vs. Magic should be included in Reggie's total. He was 1/4th of the furious finish with his 3 pointer in the last few seconds.
- ostracize, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2#4 was a set play.
- EnricoFermi, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3What about Tayshaun Prince's block heard round the world.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1ob8mNDcNk - jon31rm, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2Reggie Miller's 40-foot buzzer beater vs the #1 seed Nets to force OT?
...then 5 minutes later dunking on K.Mart to force 2OT? - rillo561, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2Had to be the most rigged finals I've seen in a while.
- Imnick, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2ESPN is the most self-promoting company on the face of the earth. Everything lately with them is the greatest ever. They fight tooth and nail to make those instant classics to pull ratings.
- sgvprelude, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2doh
- HBeeOh, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2The list was probably made before that game.
- Pandalume, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2Pippen over Ewing in 1994 should be in there:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETzpRdC6WS8 - Pandalume, on 09/19/2008, -0/+2These aren't all game winners and Pippen's dunk was a major swing point in the game (though we lost the series). Pippen had to take charge of the Bulls when Jordan was exiled to baseball and this play was emblematic of his leadership.
- HelplessSEAL, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2man basketball was awfully different back then. I haven't seen a sky hook in ages... All about dominance in the paint nowadays
- blackinthmiddle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2It was a great play. But c'mon. We're talking story book ending's or great overall games. Getting posterized is not all that uncommon.
- inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2#28 robert horry's shot against sacramento
that might be my most hated basket ever...that was during Lakers dynasty and i hated them
Kings would have won that year if it wasn't for that shot - dngermouse, on 09/18/2008, -1/+3who remembers game 1 from suns/spurs last season?
that s*it had me soo hypeed..
i was high too - blackinthmiddle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2While I woudn't call it his greatest moment, I definitely think it's up there and deserves better than #17. If you remember that game, there was as timeout and Phil was calling plays. Jordan was so sick he didn't even get out of his chair to walk over and listen to the plays. A kid walked over to him to give him a cup of Gatorade. He just looked at it for a second then slumped in his chair, to weak to even pick up the cup that was handed to him!
Not to be a Kobe-basher, but it's again the reason I don't put him in Jordan, Bird and Magic's class. Those guys came up big when they were needed the most and the pressure was on. Kobe's performance against Boston, unfortunately, has been indicative of how he's played in crunch time. - inactive, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2see your tim donaghy comment then see game 6
- blackinthmiddle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2I still remember the Knicks/Pacers game and me turning the game off (I know, I know) in the final minute assuming the Knicks had the game, only to have my father call me. I'm from NY, but was always a Jordan fan.
- metaperl, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2"""Kings would have won that year if it wasn't for that shot"""
-- yes but also consider that Samaki Walker did not deserve the 3 he was credited at end of first helf
-- also, consider that Tim Donaghy is in jail right now, and I think he officiated some games in that series.
But all in all, the Kings earned themselves too many technical fouls. - SomeRandomGuy, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2As someone else pointed out, this is probably an old list. I don't see how Horry's rebound three to beat Sacramento is ranked lower than his one against Detroit. The Detroit shot, they just leave him open, the Sacramento shot, he should have never gotten that ball, both, Kobe & Shaq were fouled on their shots, but it didn't matter.
Boom goes the Dynamite.
But no matter how old this list is it fails because:
1) The Jordan "shove" should never, EVER be #1 on a list of playoff moments. You have slow-motion video of Jordan shoving his man out of the way to get his "greatest playoff moment ever" shot up. That's like showing a no-call on a LeBron James 4-step drive to the hoop and calling it the greatest. It was a blown call, not a great moment.
2) Where the hell is Rex Chapman's UNCONSCIOUS 3-point barrage from 1997? He took, and NAILED shots that anyone in the league today would pass up. - blackinthmiddle, on 09/18/2008, -0/+2I feel the same. I guess they're ranking in terms of nostalgia as well, because I *really* don't think Willis Reed should be number two. If I remember, he hit his first two shots of the game and that was it. He was pretty much lame and was just out there as a decoy. Great, he gave his team inspiration. But number two? I think that's way too high.
