If so, it made no sense since the article is actually about who he picked to be his presenter. And if it wasn't sarcastic, what was the surprise? That he picked Thompson?

It is sure not a surprise that he DIDN'T pick Dean Smith. He is hte only one that tried to make Jordan NOT fly.
