- ethanator1088, on 06/26/2009, -1/+71I heart Shaq, but can you blame Steve. Steve is still one of the best guards in the league, and needs to have a fast paced team around him. Shaq will do better in Cleveland where they like to slow it down and hand it to LeBron.
- ProjectGSX, on 06/26/2009, -0/+39Shaq never fit in with the Suns play style. He will do better in Cleveland.
- jimmies, on 06/26/2009, -1/+29As much as I love Shaq, he's over the hill and a terrible fit for the run-n-gun that Nash likes to play.
- OscarMilde, on 06/26/2009, -1/+22he got tired of always losing at Scrabble
- hawkdude56, on 06/26/2009, -0/+19Seeing what has happened to Phoenix makes me sad. They were the most fun team in the League for 4-5 years, and then Kerr came in and ***** ***** up.
- ZeeZee2k, on 06/26/2009, -0/+16Kerr sucks as a GM, end of story.
- FightTest, on 06/26/2009, -0/+16Nash has gotten kind of a raw deal his whole career. The guy is one of the best and most entertaining to watch players I've ever seen but he never got the team needed to win a championship. Dallas gave him Nowitzki who buckles under pressure and Phoenix gave him Amare who was always injured. Neither team wanted to give him some good, quick defenders.
Then they throw Shaq's slow ass at him and now Steve's gotten old.
And to the guy above trying to compare Shaq's rings to Steve that's just dumb. You're talking about a dominant center getting paired with the best scoring guards in the game. You can't compare that to a point guard getting thrown flaky teammates. A point guard is in the weakest position to carry a team to a championship. - agent42, on 06/26/2009, -0/+14I don't claim to know the whole story, but since Nash is going to be a free agent soon you can bet your ass that the brass took Steve aside and asked him "What would make you stay? What's holding you back?" and he told them the truth. Business is business.
- Pugmonkeys, on 06/26/2009, -1/+14BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -0/+12It kind of spoils the fun of the Cavs by adding Shaqzilla.
- NMed04, on 06/26/2009, -1/+10You can't really blame Nash though, Shaq simply doesn't fit the style of offense the Suns ran before he got there. Cleveland will be a real contender for the title next year, both teams will be better off.
- xxacefirexx, on 06/26/2009, -0/+7I love Shaq too, but his age and his sluggishness will be a liability on any team. I agree that he will do better in Cleveland, but not because he's slow.
- Shakermaker, on 06/26/2009, -0/+7More proof that Nash is one of the smartest players in the league.
- Lst01, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6If Nash had stuck with Dallas just another year or two the Mavs probably would've gotten their first championship.
- SirVenro, on 06/26/2009, -1/+7For the last time! Shaqfu is not a word!
- nicktomyskins, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6Amare might be traded to the Warriors too, the suns are clearing out
- blackinthmiddle, on 06/26/2009, -1/+6Fun of the Cavs? Have you ever watched them? It's LeBron and 4 "starters" who would never make the backup team on any of the past Spurs, Bulls, Lakers or Bad Boy Piston championship teams. When LeBron has an off night, they're simply unwatchable. At least Shaq can still get 15 ppg, which is 15 more points than Sasha or Big Ben could get.
Now would I have traded for Shaq? No, he won't help them get over the hump, which is what they want. I would have made a serious push for Amare. Now the good thing is that Shaq is in the last year of his contract. So It's a lot of money for one year. If my guess is right and he doesn't put them over the top, he'll be gone. - kjk437, on 06/26/2009, -1/+5Yeah, the big guy focus needs to be returned to Amare. He's the future of the Suns and they need to start building a replacement group of guards for him.
- valmira, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4Maybe this is the all too frequent HR sensitivity and anti-harassment training talking but it is common practice to bring issues up with management and not the person in question. And lets face it, the were co-workers it is not as they were dating.
- asskicker32, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4I always thought Shaq was an awkward fit for that team. They were a 120 ppg team and then they add someone who succeeds well in a half-court set... Not a good fit. Jermaine O'neal or a more active, center would have been better. Stoudamire was a better fit at center. Smaller, but more active.
- trer, on 06/26/2009, -1/+5Can't wait to see Shaq's response on twitter!
- Coercion, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3i wish he were still in dallas instead of grandpa kidd
- Coercion, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3steve nash is one of my favorite players in the league, and i have to agree with him. as announcers have said they went from being first place in the west before shaq came to, well.. yeah.
and trading Amare was still stupid - blackinthmiddle, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3While I agree with you, there's really no good way to handle a situation such as this. At least he didn't go public with it like Kobe did. Shaq already has four rings, while Nash has none. It's hard not to at least sympathize with him. It's just a tough situation all around. If you had Nash's talent, but no rings, you'd be a little antsy as to why and would call out anything you saw as a barrier to you finally winning one.
- Tubal22, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Nash is good, but he has to be in the right environment. He's a superior ball handler and has great court vision. But when you slow down and try to get stops on the other end, he's at best an average defender.
So when he was on Dallas, he wasn't that great. They were a defensive minded team.
Move him to Phoenix, where their whole game plan was to score more points than the other team, he excelled. - Tubal22, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Ever heard of a basketball team?
Sure Shaq can beat Nash one on one (probably).
But Shaq doesn't help the other 4 guys when they're all run and gun guys.
The Suns built an explosive high speed offensive team, got deep in the playoffs, and then said "What do we need to do to take the next step? Oh I know! Defense!!! We need to slow it down and get some stops! That's the key!"
So that's what they did. Unfortunately, their whole team was built for speed and offense, and no one was that good defensively. And then they brought Shaq in, and slowed it all down.
So you've got 10 guys that play fast and loose, and tell them to slow down and play defense, and then add a big slow guy to help them, what do you expect? - NMed04, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2I wouldn't say anything to Shaq's face that I thought he wouldn't like! haha
- blackinthmiddle, on 06/26/2009, -1/+3What you did is like when you go to somebody's house, he shows you a horrible sheetrock and paint job and he says, "I DID IT MYSELF!!! Saved $500 bucks doing it, too!"
- pattyme, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Why the hell is this supposed to be a good thing? Shaq was dominate back in the day, yes, but the whole reason Nash wants him gone is he clogs the whole lane. Do people not understand that the majority of LeBron's game is getting in the lane... He will do the exact same thing to Cleveland and just ***** up LeBron's space. Winning is going to become more difficult for LeBron now that he has a Shaq on his shoulders.
- Tubal22, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2They had a shot one year, and that was when the league basically stole it from them and gave it to San Antonio. When they suspended Diaw and Amare for 1 game after Horry body slammed Nash into the scorer's table.
The other years, they weren't the best team. Maybe most exciting team. Maybe the best offensive team. But not the best team. - asskicker32, on 06/26/2009, -1/+3youre an idiot. Shaq has always been a dominant center because he is strong, big, moves well and plays with the agility of a man half his size.
- macromorgan, on 06/26/2009, -3/+5Doesn't matter who the Suns have on their team; if league president Stern doesn't want your team to win the championship then your team won't.
- Imissnaptime, on 06/26/2009, -1/+3basketball is one word
- xmykro, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2I agree. People who don't know basketball think a 37 year old Shaq will help Cleveland.
Exactly the opposite! Lebron's whole game is predicated on getting into the lane, and scoring or find an open teammate for a jumper. Shaq will plug up the lane and it will allow his man to help on LeBron! - jerrycan, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Blame the Queen's english mate.
- wc3452, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Where are you getting all those Qs?
- LuCiFer6, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Yeah true but he should have been a man and told Shaq instead of the back room dealings.
- BrettSchu, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo0ncg-2zPY for you that haven't seen it
- K4Lic0, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Except they're trading him..
- trav6, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1It's quite right here...BOOOOoooo
- tonytroz, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Did you really need to recap your 6 sentences with 2 sentences? I'm pretty sure anyone reading your comment wouldn't skip it because it's 6 sentences long.
- Coercion, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1stupid move imo
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Actually it was Shaq's personal doctor who was caught cheating at Go
- mgraves81, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2I am confused as to who got tired at losing in Scrabble...was it Shaq for just being a dolt.
Or was it the Canadian Steve Nash for spelling "color" "colour" and "theater" "theatre." The confusion must have left Shaq reeling. - LuCiFer6, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1LOL true again...
- Rethcir, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Are you a game MVP like Steve Nash?
- lapiak, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1"Yes nash does belong in that convo"
Whatever that means. - spidl, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Agreed. Nash not only has 0 rings he has never even made it to the finals. That style may have been fun to watch, but when it counted they never reached the top of the league.
- ps3241, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Have fun dishing it to Biedrins once Amare goes to the Warriors.
- SpyCatcher, on 06/26/2009, -0/+0If you remotely understood the game you wouldn't call people an idiot. Shaq may be big, he benefited from NBA policies and lack of officiating.
