- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -21/+116I find it impossible to like kobe
- VinceMancini, on 05/07/2009, -12/+96LEAVE KOBE'S ELBOWS ALONE, ARTEST.
- PeanutCheeseBar, on 05/07/2009, -16/+99Buried as inaccurate; we all know that Artest left the game early because he wanted to beat the crowd.
- sipsyrup, on 05/07/2009, -1/+43I like how Scola attacked Fisher's elbow also... damn those Rockets are ruthless
- JohnGotty, on 05/07/2009, -7/+43You do not foul the Golden Boy. Get it straight Artest!
- Gr00ver, on 05/07/2009, -6/+40I live in Houston so I'm a little bias.. but it still amazes me what Kobe can get away with (because of who he is).
In game 1, he falls on top of Shane Battier, and as he's getting up, he gives Battier a nice elbow and a knee. No one called anything (just like they didn't call anything on Kobe for the elbow to the throat on Artest).
Go Rockets! - bigthree, on 05/07/2009, -6/+34I think Ron Artest was just raped by Kobe's elbow! I bet Kobe buys his wife a big diamond today to make up for the misunderstanding. I mean Ron was asking for it getting that close and what not.
- chicagojack, on 05/07/2009, -0/+28I love the NBA
- Tetrator, on 05/07/2009, -0/+26Dugg for the quote in the video at the end of the article:
Ron Artest to Kobe - "You're hitting the wrong person. Don't you know you're hitting Ron Artest?" - paterade724, on 05/07/2009, -2/+27No idea why you are getting dugg down.

I thought it was solid - MrCapo, on 05/07/2009, -9/+33A frame by frame retort - http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2009/5/7/867885 ...
- decapitor, on 05/07/2009, -4/+27The speed with which Kobe whipped that elbow around was too fast to be an accident.
- vagrantwade, on 05/07/2009, -1/+22Probably because he took an elbow to the throat and was then called for a foul?
- jebiya, on 05/07/2009, -4/+23If Artest was gonna get ejected, he might as well have just thrown an elbow back.
- CFFL23, on 05/07/2009, -2/+17A++++ WILL LAUGH AGAIN!
- RumpleForeskin3, on 05/07/2009, -3/+16Kobe should buy him a huge diamond ring to make up for his actions.
- JCEEZ, on 05/07/2009, -1/+14dude they found like 4 dudes semen in her... wow
- unrealfan, on 05/07/2009, -0/+12maybe, but if it was blatant enough, he'd risk suspension for the next game. awesome game, love the toughness both teams are showing. dirty plays or not, they're making this a great series to watch
- bgolat, on 05/07/2009, -6/+17***** the Lakers.
- tommyny04, on 05/07/2009, -0/+11lmao, i was dying when i saw that
gotta give props to Artest tho, his swag is undeniable - zomgflamer, on 05/07/2009, -1/+11Of course haters dont like it. They are the fegs bitching about the league being soft then come around bitching how dirty and physical it is now (lawl in a box out) once it works against their agenda.
- DarkBlueAnt, on 05/07/2009, -8/+18I hope Kobe is alright.
- mrcaulfield, on 05/07/2009, -0/+10Gahhh...Too close for comfort.
- IHaveCrayons, on 05/07/2009, -4/+14The only thing I saw was the entire Lakers team talking trash into Scola face. He's usually very quiet spoken, I dunno what you guys are talking about his English isn't even that good.
- 1longtime, on 05/07/2009, -1/+11Detroit.
No further explanation required. - Foenetik, on 05/07/2009, -1/+10it sucks that I'm so used to the rockets constantly getting shafted on b.s. calls. it's been that way for the longest time now.
- inigomntoya, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9The 5 Rockets fans on digg took offense to it.
Thanks for posting that video by the way - brought back awesome memories... - vagrantwade, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8Fisher and Alston get an extra day of rest now!
- MrGreenGenes2, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8Agreed, I enjoyed the hell out of those two games already. Seriously though, it's Ron Artest, and you complain about Kobe's sportsmanship and civility...
- RatatRatR, on 05/07/2009, -1/+9The fan that threw the bottle at him ought to be remembered as the one who drove that fight over the edge. Artest had chilled the ***** out before that ***** hit him with a bottle.
- marm0lade, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8Your username makes this more awesome than it already was.
- woofers07, on 05/07/2009, -4/+11Scola got knocked the ***** out.
- Czechxican, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7I agree, but come on, in the NBA I think players should be smarter than to confront someone like that. what was Artest thinking.
- AmyVernon, on 05/07/2009, -3/+10Bastard.
- AmazingA, on 05/07/2009, -7/+14The refs have seemed especially awful so far in the playoffs. It's like Kobe, Lebron, or Wade(pre-elimination) can drive to the basket on every play and get a foul called if they miss. Like the other night Lebron blew by Josh Smith and missed a layup *whistle* a good 3 seconds after he's by Smith. Or how Rondo can throw a player into the scorers table and get a tech-1, but Artest get's tossed for getting in Kobe's face. Speaking of that, did anybody else notice that the replays of that incident never include Rondo throwing Heinrich, just the retaliation?
WTF is with the NBA trying to pick it's champion? These phenoms shouldn't need the refs help, and nobody likes watching a fixed sport. - aegis17, on 05/07/2009, -5/+12Don't know why you are getting dugg down, or why people are clamoring in favor of Ron Artest. He was clearly making excess physical contact with Kobe prior to the elbowing incident; if I were a referee, I would have called it when Kobe was bent over double, and struggling to stay on his feet under Ron's force.
As far as the elbowing is concerned, the video was at a poor angle, so I can't say whether or not it was intentional; I do know that in a physical high-contact sport like basketball, an arm whipping around and clocking someone during a rebound happens often, and certainly isn't automatically an intentional foul.
Ron's poor sportsmanship after the play, though, definitely leaves me in favor of Kobe.
Edit: on review of the video, Kobe's clearly boxing out, so it wasn't Ron's fault he was bent over. Even so, the ref called right in that he made no call at all. At least, IMO. - IHaveCrayons, on 05/07/2009, -3/+10This is the kind of player Kobe is: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9988/kobe.gif
- JCEEZ, on 05/07/2009, -4/+11ever head anyone's testimonials about him after the Olympics? That guy works freakin hard and WANTS to win, not just look cool like AI or something.
- kjones555, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6Very epic comment. Well done!
- brsteve88, on 05/07/2009, -1/+7Because he comes off like an *****. That's how. The same way people have hated Arod in baseball for so many years.
- zomgflamer, on 05/07/2009, -0/+6But ***** like this make great series.
- marinman, on 05/07/2009, -3/+8I understand if you don't like Kobe as a person because God knows he's given plenty of reasons for that, but you're delusional if you don't respect his game as one of the all-time greats. I had the same conflict with Karl Malone back in the day, as I hated his guts as a Jazz but knew he's still one of the best power forwards ever.
- shamanking911, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Have you been watching the lakers? in Game 1, Kobe had 0 free throws until he made that 3 point play in late 3rd quarter i believe, finished 3/5 from the line, ended with 32 points. I believe he took only 3-4 layups/dunks the entire game.
In game 2, he was 6/7 on the free throws. 40 points with only 6 makes on the free throw line, thats 34 pts from straight jump shots.
Clearly so far, he has to work for his shot, hit many times, and not getting calls, the entire lakers only had 19 free throw attempts in game one, while rockets had 29.
Check the stats before u go pull something out of your ass.
now digg me down - TexanRudeBoy, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5He was thinking:
"If the league and the refs won't stop this thug from cheapshotting people then I am going to tell him it won't fly with me"
Had Ron taken Kobe's head off (we ALL know the pretty boy can't fight) I wouldn't have batted an eye. - seanmanseanman, on 05/07/2009, -4/+9UPDATE: ESPN's Chris Sheridan has seen the reverse-angle footage that doesn't seem to be online, and writes:
On the Bryant-Artest play, the two were battling for rebounding position when Bryant struck Artest with his elbow. Artest immediately began gesturing and arguing that he had been elbowed in the neck, but replays appeared to show Bryant's elbow striking Artest on his upper chest, just above the "R" on Artest's Rockets jersey. - guchdog, on 05/07/2009, -2/+6Do you call the hand check to the Kobe's head or the elbow to the Artest's throat or the face plant retaliation to Kobe's Neck? In the NBA it can go any way.
- merdiesel, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5This league is such ***** *****... How about the WCF in 2002 when Kobe damn near broke Mike Bibby's nose and they called the foul on Bibby. If you suspend Dwight Howard for an elbow you God damn better suspend Kobe for that *****.
- SomeRandomGuy, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5Don't throw it if you don't want it back, Artest.
