Rasheed Wallace flings half-court 3 to force OT, Pistons win
sports.espn.go.com — Rasheed Wallace forced overtime with a 60-foot buzzer beater.
- 882 diggs
- digg it
- MontanaMagic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32One of the most amazing things you'll ever see in a basketball game.
- pbs1914, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15I don't know what was crazier--that shot or the final minute T-Mac had in the Rockets game a few nights ago:
http://www.digg.com/videos/sports/Rockets_McGrady_Greatest_Comeback_Ever - LovingDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ditto, it was one crazy shot. Probably one of the best ever, considering how much that shot was needed in the game. It wasn't just a half court shot. It was a half court shot at the buzzer that saved the game.
- tehkain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20
Here is the youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEUJURPUO0s For those who can't use their player. - mikesty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Definitely. A lot of people would be surprised to find they actually couldn't even throw a ball that far (not a slingshot / over the head hurl) that far, let alone make one in.
- david31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@ pbs1914
McGrady's comeback was over 2 years ago. - mistarojaz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2actually dude, the tmac clip is from a couple of years ago
EDIT: whoops should have refreshed - threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Ditto, it was one crazy shot. Probably one of the best ever, considering how much that shot was needed in the game. It wasn't just a half court shot. It was a half court shot at the buzzer that saved the game."
Not only that but there was only 1.5 seconds left and Denver had the ball out of bounds.. all they had to do was inbound the ball and it was over! - NachoBusiness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Believe it or not, guys practice this. Even guys not known for 3-point shooting. There are just so many situations over a season where you have nothing to do at the end of a quarter but lob it up... why not at least get some practice? Some of them have to go in. Even Shaq made one of these once... only 3 pointer of his career I think.
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I saw something about Wallace Breen and Half-Life 2 in the RSS. Gotta slow down and read.
- pbs1914, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15I don't know what was crazier--that shot or the final minute T-Mac had in the Rockets game a few nights ago:
- jpstewar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38I saw that on TV and peed a little
- Just1nD, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1someone watched comedy central recently
- Ubish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Ball don't lie
- DukeVonMan, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7wow, 17 diggs and on the frontpage
- TheToecutter, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5Yes, truly lame that a half court bball shot makes it to the front page with 17 diggs and 19 hours of time to stew. How is that "popular?"
- drchucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Promoting a story to the front page uses an algorithm based on many things. My guess is that it got 17 diggs extremely fast, this possibly being a criteria, and shot to the front page. It's at 70 at the moment and is still at the top of the page. Then again, maybe it was a slow news day.
- burtonbe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8My theory is that Digg headquarters can promote any story they please by logging in as a superadmin.
Put on your tinfoil hats guys. :-) - joeyjesus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes, i think the monkeys have their hands on the gears behind the scenes at digg and it's not what it claims to be. But what do i know, other than lots of stories get lots more diggs and never show up on the front - it's always explained as just those damn algorithms. yeah, right.
- threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Because most diggers don't even know what basketball is, let alone 19 who like it
- Just1nD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3people who check digg for sports related news do it at the end of their work day because they are catching up on espn.com while they are at work
- jswan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5you guys are full of *****.... i digged this when it had 8 diggs, followed it through the day (im a michigan native) and 5 hours later it had 17 diggs. You all can ***** yourselves for thinking this doesn't deserve front page status. Sheed is the man that won the title and Chris Webber is next..... DEEEEEETROIT BASSSSKETBALLLLL!!!!!
- Magnj, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2wowz
- BradGroux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4While this was an amazing shot and turn of events, Tracy McGrady's 13 points in 35 seconds that pbs1914 refers to is easily the most ridiculous end-of-the-game heroics.
- sdub74, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What about Reggie Miller knocking down 8 points in 9 seconds in the 1995 playoffs in Madison Square Garden? This shot is impressive, but pretty lucky. Miller had a great 9 seconds in a hostile environment in a playoff game.
- bananaguyc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Lucky ass *****.
- JUNGLIST313, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2That was an incredible shot. Saw it on the replay. Normally 'Sheed is not known for his range.
- beggersfunk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Sheed is known for his range always. He has the ability to shoot from three point range. That's one of his asset , player's need to guard him on a perimeter.Or else he will shoot the light out!
- usercc, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1What information could be more worthless and on the front page?
CC - compgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3damn that's luck
- WavyLayz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7How did the ball end up in his hands? He was like, "Oh thanks. Uh- HEAVE!!"
- eriksanerd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24DEEEETROIT BASKETBALLLLLL!!!!!!!!
- RyanatDSP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aww yeah. 'Sheed ain't no joke. Practice, practice, practice and get it right.
Peace to you and Peace to Detroit from DSP!
- RyanatDSP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aww yeah. 'Sheed ain't no joke. Practice, practice, practice and get it right.
- quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"We shoot those all the time before the game," Wallace said. "This one went in, but it isn't like it won a championship or anything."
- coyo7e, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Man I'm not even a sports fan, but half-court shots are always cool!
- jexdawg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1youtube link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Cbe81FGYydg
oops tehkain beat me to it - carwasher24, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Watch the video
PEOPLE WERE LEAVING, YOU COULD SEE THEM IN THE BACKGROUND
wow!- bigstinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was watching that game from the start. Sheed turned the ball over with a chance to go up one, and time running down. He was devastated.
I turned the game off in disgust with 5 seconds to go.
Some fan I am...But what a shot. Thank God for 11 o'clock news.
- bigstinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was watching that game from the start. Sheed turned the ball over with a chance to go up one, and time running down. He was devastated.
- mucnix, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4too bad a decent human being couldn't have made the shot...
- nsjoker, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Agreed. If you know anything about the NBA you know that Rasheed Wallace is a technical foul magnet. What a little whiny brat this guy is. He looks grimy as hell too. Nice shot though.
- fiziks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4sheed could hurl you guys across that court - dont mess with sheed
- MichiganJeep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Right....The Stand Tall with Sheed Foundation, his joint celebrity softball game with Mcnabb that helped Katrina victims, & during winter time his warm clothes drive for the needy. I'm curious if you've raised as much money as Sheed has? Cash don't lie
- anthonystark, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2He's usually a pretty solid player when he's not picking fights or whining.
- Misaiato, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1AND IT WAS ABSOLUTE CRAP!!!
/cry for my Nuggets...
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS GRAB THE DAMN BALL CARMELO!!! - karolgajda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Shhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddd!!!
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just for fun....
Magic Johnson vs Larry Bird - Old School Buzzer Beaters Duel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKsqSRKihOI - acianfarani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sheed is great. He also knocked down a Three in overtime to help win the game. No point in a heroic shot if you end up losing the game....ALA chauncey billups a couple years ago in the Playoffs against the Nets.
- indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2oh god, don't remind me. i'm so happy the nets ended up winning that game (VEAL!), but i was on the verge of tears and was remembering reggie miller as i watched that go in.
- Devz0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's 18 m for those of us that use the latest version of "Measurements"
- BeyondGoodNEvil, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0You're right. We really need to start using the metric system more. I suggest 24 hour military time as well. The English system is outdated. Even Dvorak should eventually become the standard... just a matter of getting converts. I still use QWERTY and feel stuck with using English measurements, but it's like Windows users feeling stuck and not being able to switch to Apple or Linux.
- JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Rasheed Wallace did something other than get caught by the police with drugs?
Imagine that. It figures he becomes something more than useless AFTER he moved outta Portland. Blzaers fans are few and far between even here in their home city anymore.- orph3us, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You must live near California :P .... I'm a Blazers fan living right here in Portland, and if you've had a chance to catch up with our team lately, they are far from the "Jail Blazers" They are young, talented, and exciting....... And as far as the old Blazers being Jail Blazers? They only got that name cuz they all got busted for smoking pot.... another thing Oregon and Portland is known for, and IMO not a bad thing to be known for. We have great weed... Nothing wrong with that.. Only Blazer who got busted for anything other than smoking was Ruben Patterson and he was accused of raping his Nanny. Glad we got rid of him, but Sheed was great with us. Damon Stoudamire was at his peak, we went to the West Finals and barely lost to the Lakers in game 7 .... Go blazers ;) BTW, im a long time fan of the Blazers since the great teams of the early 90's that went up against the Bulls (Clyde Drexler, Buck Williams, Jerome Kersey, Duckworth, Terry Porter) Ya, us Blazer fans still exist and hopefully the times are getting good again.. :)
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You forgot about Qyntel Woods getting busted for dog fighting. But I agree, the Blazers have a great young team, in a few years they could easily evolve into a really strong team.
- Kevquest13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Wow! That was an amazing ending.
- cman1783, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I was at that game and let me say, that was amazing in person. My boss gave me 2 tickets ($175 a piece), 13 rows behind the Pistons bench. Everyone started to leave then sheed made the unthinkable and started rushing back to their seats. And i ended up on TV!!
- beggersfunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I envy you. Nice boss you have.
- champsampson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3***** Sheed!
Signed,
A really pissed off Denver Fan.
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the commentary: "One of the most ridiculous made shots in a drama situation." Yeah, that makes sense.
- DrewBledsoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Rasheed cant read
- bbautista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Rasheed routinely practices this shot, along with a bunch of other "trick shots":
