- anklesnap, on 02/02/2009, -2/+16It only makes sense for a Coach to want to "take the advice" of his Boss even on the issues such as playing time. Sounds like these vets are just trying to shift the blame to their coach for their recent losing streaks.
- chuckolat, on 02/02/2009, -2/+10He won't last long...
- zero, on 02/03/2009, -1/+8The move for Iverson was a good business deal for the long run. It cleared Chauncey's salary and after next year Sheed will be gone. This will give the Pistons tons of money to go after one of the 20+ big name free agents after the 2010 season that included Lebron, Dirk, Nash, Amare and Ginobli. Dumars will be waving 10s of millions of dollars in the faces of these guys to get them to sign here and rebuild the team, something not a lot of teams will be able to do. About Curry, I think it was a temporary job to start with. There was no free big name coaches available after firing Flip besides Carlisle and well we know how that turned out.
As a life long Pistons fan I do have faith in Dumars' ability to save this team but he better get somebody big out of the class of 2010. If not the fans will turn on him and he will be on his way. - toleshei, on 02/03/2009, -0/+6Billups for AI was never about this year. It's about 2010, freeing up salary when the big names become free agents.
From ESPN:
"It's also the Summer of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd, each of whom can become an unrestricted free agent in 2010."
If AI works out great, but if not, they have more money to get someone who may be a better fit for the team. - JerkNowitzki, on 02/03/2009, -0/+6I have a feeling that all the guys who are saying the Billups-Iverson trade was a bad move will be kissing Dumars' ass in two years....
I think back to when Danny Ainge acquired Ray Allen and everyone was talking about how stupid he was too.... - threemagic, on 02/03/2009, -1/+4When we have cap space to buy some free agents next year, you wont say that. The AI trade wasn't about today.
- FOR3MAN, on 02/03/2009, -0/+3I think you meant..ahem...
Jooooooooooooooooe DuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuMarrrrrrrrrrrrrs!!!!! - babaganush, on 02/03/2009, -1/+4wtf is this *****? It sounded like TMZ was reporting...He got word from two "unnamed" veterans. Really convincing.
- threemagic, on 02/03/2009, -1/+3I agree.. the sad thing is most of the free agents we could get are the very ones we could have drafted instead of darko.
Nash will be 100...besides we have stuckey..
Dirk plays less D than Nash...
Amare!!! - anyup, on 02/03/2009, -0/+2Scott Skiles was fired by the Bulls last season, well, last long.....
- zero, on 02/04/2009, -0/+1I know Lebron isn't coming here I was just naming the big free agents coming up and Bosh has already said he wants out of Toronto. Read the news.
- FOR3MAN, on 02/03/2009, -0/+1It was to clear cap room for huge free agent year. Lebron of one of a million other AAA players.
- JulyZerg, on 02/03/2009, -1/+2Name one...
- ricintoxin81, on 02/04/2009, -0/+1JFK, 7/7 in London...
It's a long list and I'm a busy man July - phornung, on 02/03/2009, -1/+2Are you kidding? How much better can he do than 'exactly what the boss wants'?
If anyone's going, it'll be Rasheed, Rip, and/or AI. - Iknockstuffdown, on 02/03/2009, -0/+1Or maybe let the coach do his job? Why spend 2.5 million dollars on a coach if you're not going to let him do his job?
The players aren't trying to shift the blame, they're probably just hoping Curry will get fired if they go on a losing streak. Flip Saunders got fired for taking them to the eastern conference finals three years in a row. They think Curry is making some stupid decisions, and they're basically refusing to play. You can see it if you watch them play, they're completely unenthusiastic. - threemagic, on 02/03/2009, -1/+1@rillo: it's easy to be humble when you have KG and Paul Pierce on your team. That said, you haven't seen ray ray's numbers eh.. dude IS the man, this year.
- gcburns, on 02/03/2009, -0/+0Um, Dumars can wave a max deal, but so can like 5 other teams.
Furthermore, the NBA set it up so no matter how much money we have, we cant match what the FA's current team can. Thats why were not getting any of these guys. Bron might take less to go to NYK, but thats because he'd get more in marketing. Detroit cant offer that. Bosh, Wade and co are 90% staying put unless they're totally fed up with their team. And then, why would they come here? Learn the cap. - etx313, on 02/03/2009, -6/+6***** Iverson. The Pistons were a great TEAM unlike most basket ball teams now with one or two ball hogs. i.e. Kobe, Shaq, etc. Iverson is one of those players that simply does not belong on the Detroit Pistons!
- aoou4444, on 02/03/2009, -0/+0I like Curry and think he makes a great coach, but I was really sceptical of his hiring from the begining. It's become clear that he isn't the right head coach for this team. He should have been kept as an assistant and Dumars should have brought someone that can manage these guys.
- Division, on 02/03/2009, -3/+3dugg for "Seems the California woman who popped out those eight babies last week had previously given birth to six. I can't even get a copier to reproduce that fast."
- rillo561, on 02/03/2009, -5/+5I'm sure he is, Dumars needs to take responsibility for trading Billups for Iverson. One of the dumbest trades in recent history, A.I. is a competitor, but he isn't a winner. He's Marbury but with a better skills.
- rillo561, on 02/03/2009, -2/+1Pistons window was closing, but after that trade it was slammed shut IMO. Unless A.I. changes his attitude and game Pistons won't win with him. Nobody can.
Its funny you bring up Ray Allen, he came out the same year A.I. and Marbury did, but one thing is different about him. He changed his game and realized that he isn't the "man" anymore and bought into the "team". - inactive, on 02/03/2009, -6/+4Man I hate the pistons, always have, always will. Except Stuckey, that guys gonna be a stud.
- Smokeydabear, on 02/03/2009, -11/+9I didn't think anyone watched the NBA anymore, interesting theory though.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -5/+2I didn't think anyone joined the NRA anymore, but here's a pistol, Cho!
- mrgodai, on 02/03/2009, -7/+3Dum-ars
- ricintoxin81, on 02/03/2009, -7/+2There's usually truth to any conspiracy theory.
