Pistol Pete Maravich & the Invention of Showtime Basketball watch!
youtube.com — "Pistol Pete", Maravich starred in college at Louisiana State University and for three NBA teams. Maravich is still the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer, averaging a staggering 44.2 points per game, without the benefit of a three-point line ...known for his dazzling ballhandling, incredible shooting abilities, and creative passing

"His efficiency his junior year compared favorably to those of Pete Maravich and Calvin Murphy, contemporaries in feats of scoring. While Maravich and Murphy scored more per game, Mount shot far better from the field. He shot an incredible 51.5 percent, while Maravich shot 45.2 percent and Murray shot just 43.7 percent." - jemka, on 03/18/2008, -1/+9I could do without the car sickness induced video editing.
- blackinthmiddle, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6That was my thoughts exactly. Let the plays speak for themselves.
- wrathchilde, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1Agree, completely, but damn, nostalgia I still Love it.
- Pyroteknik, on 03/18/2008, -1/+6Lew Alcindor would like a word with you.
- zunkus, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2No it's true, look at the stats brotha. Petey Pablo averaged 40 pts a game for 3 years, sweet Lew only averaged like 34.6 or some odd number like that. Not to mention the Pistol invented modern bball.
- surge1, on 03/19/2008, -1/+0Nope, Kareem Abdul Jabbar (Alcindor) was better.
Won 3 National Championships and shot 64%.- zunkus, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1I'll give you the fact that he won rings...FG percentage doesn't matter too much in a historical context. Pete just plain got it done though. He did get a championship or two himself. If you wanna talk like that then Bill Walton could be considered the greatest NCAA player ever. He shot at least that % and has just as many rings.
- surge1, on 03/19/2008, -1/+0Nope, Kareem Abdul Jabbar (Alcindor) was better.

- munkianis, on 03/18/2008, -9/+2Very Globetrotter-esque.
- geehumshriber, on 03/18/2008, -6/+1And he wears short shorts.
- michaelaranda, on 03/18/2008, -6/+2I feel like NBA "stars" today would be much more humble if they still had to wear shorts like that.
- BeeArePro, on 03/18/2008, -5/+51:10-1:13 was epic, and I'm no sports fan.
- rbvmusic, on 03/18/2008, -7/+14oh god if you want us to actually see what he's doing, edit the video a little better
he could be dunking from the 3-point line and I still wouldn't be able to tell if it was edited like that - Rsulliv1, on 03/18/2008, -9/+2But, can he dunk? :)
- zunkus, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Yes, look at videos of him at LSU he crammed hard....You ***** hater.
- musicmanryan, on 03/18/2008, -12/+2What, did he die or something? I don't get the relevance.
- timothyclark, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2Pistol Pete's been dead since the late 80s, he died very suddenly, of a stroke I think.
This looks like it's a promotion for a new DVD documentary about the game where he scored 68 points against the Knicks. Would probably help if that were in the description above...- musicmanryan, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1Well don't I feel like a horse's patoot. Goes to show how much I know about NBA basketball. Now if it was about a baseball player or golfer taht would be another thing.
I guess I deserve to be dugg down...

- Diggpick, on 03/18/2008, -8/+2Pistol Pete - sounds like an Italian Mafia gangster...he sure does know how to shoot..
- Acronym, on 03/18/2008, -13/+2I have no idea why...but I have the sudden urge to post a rick roll video link mmmust resist the urge....
oh BTW here's a video of him doing a dunk: http://youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU - kylekrane, on 03/18/2008, -7/+1LSU LSU LSU LSU
what happened to our basketball program?- vatd112, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1u happened to it
- xOKxWhy, on 03/18/2008, -8/+2Maravich basically invented streetball
- bubba9999, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2That was Al Gore.
- iperalta, on 03/18/2008, -1/+16when basketball was good...
- joeyslugs, on 03/18/2008, -2/+17Think about it... he scored 68 points against the Knicks WITHOUT a 3-point line.
He averaged 44.2 ppg at LSU and if he had a 3-point line it would of been around 57
He was the greatest NCAA player ever and easily in the top 5 NBA players of all time. It's a shame that he ended up playing on some bad teams in his career.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8qUZILi8IM- anachronaut, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3That was a much better video. You could really see that he had this freakish grasp of the physics required to perfectly control and direct the ball at any given moment, and was clearly playing on an entirely different level than his competitors. Very entertaining, and I normally dislike basketball.
- kidendless, on 03/18/2008, -3/+6pistol pete was the ***** MAN. remember, he set all those records before there was even a 3-point line. godly.
he also has the coolest basketball nickname ever. yes, even cooler than kobe "the black mamba" bryant. - jlee2081, on 03/18/2008, -2/+568 points is pretty impressive when you consider that there was no 3 point line back then.

- DanThe1Man, on 03/18/2008, -8/+2Way to represent, White Boy.
- grobinson, on 03/18/2008, -10/+5 Pistol Pete Maravich was a great basketball player, but he didn't invent anything. When pistol pete did it, it was great; when John McLendon, Harold Hunter, and Cleo Hill did it, it was called 'jungle ball'.
http://espnblackmagic.secondthought.com/- bubba9999, on 03/18/2008, -1/+7When Morris Day and the Time did it, it was called "jungle love".

- mojotooth, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Well somebody's been sucking at ESPN's teat very recently.
- BetterOffEd, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2And exactly what collegiate and/or professional scoring records do John McKendon, Harold Hunter, and Cleo Hill hold?
This ain't just STYLE points ya know...
- bubba9999, on 03/18/2008, -1/+7When Morris Day and the Time did it, it was called "jungle love".
- wrathchilde, on 03/18/2008, -3/+2Thank you. Man, those were good times.
- trevorjez, on 03/18/2008, -3/+5those shorts are awesome. i mean...those shots are awesome.
- nksoccer13, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1Freudian slip?
- Lumbeekid06, on 03/18/2008, -2/+2jesus, how many assists did he have?
- j4nj1m3n3z, on 03/18/2008, -2/+6Pistol Pete would have thrived in the NBA right now. His game was way ahead of his time. Definitely one of the most underrated players ever.
- RedViper1999, on 03/18/2008, -7/+1I would be impressed if I hadn't seen Michael Jordan play.
- maybeinoregon, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2That was cool - it would have been fun to have watched him live - what a talent.
- kckern, on 03/18/2008, -3/+3Go Utah Jazz!
- vatd112, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1the Jazz will never make it to the finals and deep down u know it
- BetterOffEd, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2It was actually the New Orleans Jazz back then.
The franchise's move to Utah created maybe one of the worst team names ever. The UTAH JAZZ?
- historybuff, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2Thanks for the post. Much enjoyed.
- vatd112, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3good player...bad video. to many gay special effects
- setowmich, on 03/18/2008, -1/+1I don't know the whole story but, I think later on in life his doctors discovered he had some sort of heart condition and should of never lived past his mid 20s.
- hokeywebb22, on 03/18/2008, -2/+1Did he just make a no look layup?
Pistol Pete is one of the few players I think could play in todays game and still be a great player. - fcra, on 03/19/2008, -7/+1Terrible video, but let's look past that. Put Maravich against some modern scrub like Vince Carter and Maravich would be on his back begging for it to stop. Competition today is so much tougher than in the 60s and 70s.
- vw195, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2you are insane
- BetterOffEd, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you?
- phambam, on 03/19/2008, -1/+0Wow. Backwards jumper?
- toomanyhandles, on 03/19/2008, -3/+0Pistol Pete was a guy (Frank Eaton) who was famous for tracking down and killing the people who murdered his father.........
- BirdCatcher, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1uh oh sports and digg nerds don't mix too well... just a bunch of slander to one of the greatest basketball players ever to live. Too bad us nerds don't know a whole lot about basketball.
- vw195, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1That video doesnt do justice to Maravich. Some of the things maravich pulled off are totally amazing. Having said that, LSU still sucks!
- BetterOffEd, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1Enjoy the offseason at THE Ohio State University.
- Stevanoski, on 03/19/2008, -1/+4Pistol Pete died because his heart had the arteries and veins wired in backwards, most die in their early twenties with this genetic disorder.:
Most people with the kind of heart condition Maravich had die before they are 20; a relative few may live to 30. Maravich, who had been retired as an athlete for seven years, died at 40.
''For a guy to go 10 years in the N.B.A. and have a congenital anomaly like that is, to say the least, very unusual,'' said Dr. Paul Thompson of Brown University, an expert on sudden death who was quoted in an Associated Press story Wednesday. ''How could a guy like that run up and down the court for 20 years?'' The question is provocative. WE often talk about someone having heart. That their heart was in it. Songs tell us we gotta have heart. Could it be that Maravich, although with less physical heart than most, metaphorically had more?
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=940 ... - AlbrechtsMom, on 03/19/2008, -2/+0Go get The Ziggens album "Greatest Zits" now. listen to the song Pistol Pete. BTW one of the greatest albums ever from a band with insane range of talent and style
- tetsubeanz, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0Sweet moves, awesome video. But the video-editing got really ***** annoying.
- zunkus, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Greatest scorer in NCAA history....***** video though.
- BetterOffEd, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2A record that quite possibly will NEVER be broken. The guy who is second to Marvich on the all-time NCAA scoring list is not even close.
- bobangitanov2, on 03/19/2008, -1/+1Go whitey!
- powerofsoul, on 03/23/2008, -0/+0I was a kid when Maravich was doing all of his magic. I appreciate you putting up the video. He should be remembered . . . no question one of the greatest who ever "laced em up". RIP Pete . . . you did well!
- MaX2, on 03/26/2008, -0/+0Yeah, the editing is HORRIBLE. This is the Ultimate Pistol Pete Mix:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Y5KAaercTI - DanThe1Man, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1My 'white boy' comment was a parody of another comment on a different story. I realize now it looked racist, sorry about that.
