- inactive, on 12/04/2008, -2/+11Jackson's ability to get the most out of ego-centered players like Kobe and Jordan has always been admirable. Many zen-heads I know have no understanding of people like that, much less the ability to command their respect and influence them.
- ATLiens, on 12/04/2008, -0/+6the fact that the Lakers bench plays better than most teams starters is a testament to Jackson's coaching ability
- TitanX13, on 12/04/2008, -3/+8you obviously have no clue what you are talking about.
so please reframe from speaking - wmouazzen, on 12/04/2008, -1/+6Well you have to think... Jordan never won a ring before Phil. Neither did Kobe and Shaq.
- MrBogard, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Great players don't make a great team by themselves.
- DatDudeWiggs, on 12/04/2008, -0/+3Jordan and Pippen were great before him. So were Shaq and Kobe
- SpinAlley, on 12/04/2008, -1/+4Or does he make the players great?
- idontlikeyou2, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Phil is a great coach but put it this way, he couldn't have won the championship without Jordan & Pippen or Kobe and Shaq and like wise, these hall of fame players probably wouldn't have won these championship"s" without Phil either.
- rohit275, on 12/04/2008, -0/+2Exactly. Phil is undoubtedly a great coach, probably one of the greatest ever. Just think about the vast number of great players in history that never won a championship. Especially in the modern era, it's tougher than ever. When Red did it back in the 60s, there were far fewer teams, and the Celtics were the only really good one. You think Phil has had good players? Try Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, and John Havlicek just for starts. Also, this Laker team in its one year without Phil missed the playoffs completely. That has something to do with Rudy quitting halfway through the year, obviously, but there was an immediate turnaround the following year. The fact that they're a contender now has something to do with Pau Gasol and the maturation of Andrew Bynum (give Phil and Kareem credit there), but Phil has an incredible grasp on controlling the egos of all these players and making them play the way they do.
- SydneyHopper, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2 Mr. Furious: Okay. Am I the only one who finds these sayings just a bit formulaic? "If you wanna put something down, you gotta pick it up". "If you wanna go left, you gotta go right". It's...
Sphinx: Your temper is very quick, my friend. But until you learn to master your rage —
Mr. Furious: Your rage will become your master? [The Sphinx freezes, caught] That's what you were gonna say, right? Right?
Sphinx: ... Not necessarily. - inactive, on 12/06/2008, -0/+1Yeah Jordan was a different kind of egomaniac who managed his image very successfully throughout his career. I'd say he's a lot smarter than Kobe in that and many other respects, but there is no doubt who Michael Jordan's biggest fan has always been. He was able to use that to his advantage and accomplish quite a bit though, and I'd have to think part of that had to do with Jackson.
- MRintheKeys, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Either way, you still don't know ***** about Michael Jordan. You only know the media image presented by the NBA. MJ was just as a hardass competitor as any other player in the league obsessed with winning. He fought teammates in practice and even took a cheap shot at Steve Kerr of all people.
- deema1, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1There is also a saying that I love. "A man who looks like Phil Jackson should be walking the sidelines with a brown paper bag over his hippie face."
I'm not a fan, but the Lakers are outstanding though. I have to give them credit. - jjc5004, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1read it.
- jefffiebs, on 02/11/2009, -0/+0I agree with the big head syndrome. It seems that a lot of coaches suffer from that these days.

cant..... stop.. commenting.... - IrvineKinneas50, on 12/04/2008, -8/+2I'm not sure grouping Kobe and Jordan together there is fair. Jordan was a team-oriented player. Kobe is not. You'd never see Jordan talking behind teammates' backs (as Kobe did to Shaq), saying he needs a trade and downing on his teammates.
- DatDudeWiggs, on 12/04/2008, -8/+1I don't know, I've never been a fan of Phil... He always luckily lands with teams with great players....
