Obama Dominates NPOY Tyler Hansbrough in UNC Scrimmage
tarheelintexas.com — I am a student at UNC and was one of the few lucky enough to see this . . . "The North Carolina primary only a week away, Sen. Barack Obama turned on the full-court press Tuesday morning."

- onetimer, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Hansbrough is way overrated anyways. I can think of at least half a dozen other players that deserved POY more than he did.
- theblueprint, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1I couldn't agree more.
Hansbrough reminds me of the prototypical Duke player: white, overrated because he's white, soft, a crybaby, and a future NBA bust. I'm amazed he went to Chapel Hill instead of Durham.

- moxysports, on 04/29/2008, -1/+0What are you talking about? WHO in the country deserved POY more than Hansbrough?? He carried the team when it mattered. Even against Kansas, a game where I was at, Hansbrough never gave up. Prototypical Dook player? Soft? Crybaby? Give me one instance of any of these descriptions.
Furthermore, what does it say about this athlete when he when ALL NPOY awards and decides to stick around in school for another year. Not even "testing the waters". Psycho T is determined to get a championship, as well as a degree and an outside shot to go along with his dominating inside game. He would have easily been a mid first round pick, however, it's not about the money for him. Trust me.
And if being white has anything to do with you questioning his athleticism, perhaps you should check out these videos, all of which happened to be dunks on Sports Center:
Tyler vs. Iona: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BpGdFh65mX8&feature=rel ...

Tyler vs. VT in ACC Tourney (Buzzer Jumper): http://youtube.com/watch?v=iOVt4LPaaTs
And there were countless more . . . but the thing is, these highlights are from only THIS past season. Imagine him next year. 12 players more deserving? What a joke. A white, soft, crybaby? Let's see you play the very next game after a dook player breaks your nose.
Served.
Served.- onetimer, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2give me a ***** break. If hansbrough didn't play for UNC, his team wouldn't have even made it to the big dance. That team is basically designed for him. With so many sharp outside shooters having to be guarded, they can simply draw away defenders and then send the ball inside for him to dunk. Meanwhile, he probably travels more than any other play in the NCAA (but gets called on it the least), and if that fails, he can simply resort to flopping like he always does.
Of course he didn't go to the NBA. He knows he's going to be a bust when he has to play against decent, big players, and won't be able to continue his traveling/flopping BS (unless he plays for the spurs, which he won't). He'd be a late first round pick at best.
If Michael Beasley (who deserved POY far more than hansbrough) had a team like UNC, they would have won the NC, no questions asked. Players like Beasley, Rose, even Douglas-Roberts are all far more skilled than hansbrough, despite playing in much more competitive conferences.- moxysports, on 04/29/2008, -1/+0Sometimes hard work shadows skill, and that is the case for Hansbrough. He is deceptively quick and has better hands than any big man playing the game right now. Plus, you don't get much more competitive than the ACC day in and day out. If Hansbrough is really traveling, they will call it. Your objection is merely grounded in speculation.
However, the UNC team was not designed for Hansbrough. Our offense is completely dependent on transition offense. The faster the player, the more they excel in a Roy William's offense. Hansbrough happens to be quick enough to run the floor with players like Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington. Sure, Beasley, Rose and Douglas-Roberts might be far more skilled than Hansbrough . . . but the numbers don't lie. And where was Beasley in the NCAA's? Oh yeah . . right. Very few freshmen can handle the leadership demanded come tourney time . . . he needs some growing up to do. I'm glad to see Hans sticking around for one more year. After he breaks the ACC scoring record (among the likes of Phil Ford, Michael Jordan, David Thompson, JJ Reddick, Chris Paul) . . . where will your argument stand? He has the potential to be the best player in ACC HISTORY without a doubt.- onetimer, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2speculation? This is a joke, right? have you even watched any of the games he has played in? There are PLENTY of examples of him not getting called for egregious traveling, especially in NC. Your ignoring the fact that the ACC is a *much* softer conference than the likes of the PAC-10 and BIG-12, which players like Beasley had to play in.
I'm not saying hansbrough isn't skilled, but he is NOT as good as Beasley by almost every metric imaginable. Moreover, he will NEVER be better than the likes of Ford, Jordan and Thompson. Not even close.
He will most likely be a mid-late first round pick who will have a so-so NBA career (he won't be anything special). - onetimer, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Kansas was just a taste of the size and athleticism that he is going to have to face in the NBA. He'll go from big-man to an average forward.

- moxysports, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1Have I watched any of the game? I have been to EVERY home UNC basketball game for the past 4 years. Hansbrough will make something of himself in the NBA. You mark my word. The kid simply works too hard to fall into the depths of "average".
- onetimer, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2So you've got the tarheel blinders on. Explains why you're not willing to admit he often does not get called on traveling.
He will be an NBA roleplayer, as he will lose his size advantage in the NBA and won't be in a sheltered conference.
