I'd watch that. - kostka, on 05/19/2009, -6/+66finally the WWE is involved in a real fight.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -2/+55No matter how you look at this, WWE is in the right here
- Kickinuarou, on 05/19/2009, -1/+42Im torn over this, although I will watch the lakers nuggets game, I also think the WWE has the right to be there if they booked in advance.
- inigomntoya, on 05/19/2009, -1/+38Uhm, no. They didn't book at the same exact time. WWE booked well in advance and the owners of the Pepsi Center thought, "There is NO WAY we are making it to the playoffs this year..."
- mustang30266, on 05/19/2009, -2/+32So if two companies honor their contractual agreements, you give up on Western Culture
- kooredaan, on 05/19/2009, -0/+28Courtesy of Deadspin: "Just postpone Gm 4 until the next evening. How much trouble can Kobe get into during an off day in Denver?"
- UtahApocalyse, on 05/19/2009, -0/+28No question here. CONTRACTS are already signed. NBA could easily have rescheduled for Tuesday and did not.
- michaelamyers, on 05/19/2009, -1/+26Steel cage match to decide the winner!!!!
- diskoh, on 05/19/2009, -1/+25Some quick googling revealed that the NBA finals hardly draw the ratings of an average wrestling tv show.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+21Except for the whole him signing a contract renting the building out on that date, which sort of puts him in a precarious and possibly very expensive position.
- erix84, on 05/19/2009, -1/+22That's called "Breach of Contract".
- sugarazor, on 05/19/2009, -2/+21Ah, so close to digging you up and then you had to go and insult an entire fanbase. Wrestling is fun for people from all walks of life.
- sdphost, on 05/19/2009, -6/+23I would think WWE has a bigger audience.j
It should go whoever booked it first. - DarkCloud515, on 05/19/2009, -3/+20So the NBA and WWE booked on the same extract time? Whatever ever happened to "First Come, First Serve?"
- 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -1/+17Lol the Nuggets didn't plan out a playoff game in advance? Were they just expecting to lose to the Mav's?
- BooBooBaron, on 05/19/2009, -2/+17A contract is a contract. WWE 1 NBA 0 in my book
- Batwaffel, on 05/19/2009, -0/+12Both the Pepsi Center and the NBA need to take responsibility in this matter. WWE was booked at this arena for over a year, they need to be working to move the date of the basketball game to another night, not try and move the WWE out of the arena for the night. A lot of work goes into putting RAW together each show. It's not something that can just be moved.
Also, there is no possible way to do both events there in the same day as some people on ESPN have suggested. WWE takes all day just to load in and setup. It's not something that can be put together in a matter of an hour or two. It's a bigger setup than most touring concerts and takes a lot of people and a lot of time to get put together.
Pepsi Center really has it's hands tied on this one.
Oh, and for all the haters who keep bashing the WWE, keep in mind that more people will watch Raw on Monday night across the globe than will see a basketball game. - cheese0089, on 05/19/2009, -2/+14At least the WWE isn't as embarrassing as the whole Yanni thing that happened to Pittsburgh when the Pens where playing the Capitals
- Ighuc, on 05/19/2009, -4/+16Rescheduling would only give Kobe more time to 'meet' girls in Denver.
- JFetch, on 05/19/2009, -0/+10It's not just a fine. They will also be sued by WWE for breach of contract and loss of revenue do to it. WWE makes from half a million to a million dollars a show in tickets and merchandise, plus ad revenue from the tv show.
- JoeHague, on 05/19/2009, -1/+10Only one way to settle this-
NBA Allstars vs WWE Allstars @ Survivor Series
or
David Strern vs Vince McMahon @ Summer Slam
(ok thats 2) - jacobfingrocks, on 05/19/2009, -1/+9I wonder if they've both sold tickets, because the real losers here would be those that paid for the event that doesn't happen.
- jfield1, on 05/19/2009, -0/+8I think the one that already has the signed contract will win.
- Dhalsim007, on 05/19/2009, -0/+8Kobe and 'Melo line up for the tip ... and what's this?!? That's CENA's MUSIC!!! And the Steel Cage lowers...
- ftwb, on 05/19/2009, -2/+101. Criticizing professional wrestling for being fixed is like criticizing soap operas for bing fixes (i.e. it's an absurd accusation on multiple levels).
2. The WWE is far more popular than any legitimate sport. They sell 30,000 tickets 250-300 nights a year, NBA teams have a hard time selling 30,000 forty times a year.
3. See 2.
4. Lakers in six at the most. - DJCamCam78, on 05/19/2009, -1/+8I'm sure the owner of the building will pay a fine to break the contract. Its not likely they are going to move the NBA game.
- tcquad, on 05/19/2009, -4/+11I doubt the NBA will have any problems winning this dispute.
After all, the WWE lost their original name, WWF, to a bunch of freakin' pandas. - inactive, on 05/19/2009, -1/+7the WWE reported that they've already sold over 10,000 tickets and expected to sell out the remaining 8,000
- ElGuano, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6"The Nuggets and the WWE understand that the date of Game 4 of the Western Conference finals cannot be changed," NBA senior vice president Mike Bass said. "We are confident that the Pepsi Center and the WWE will resolve their scheduling conflict."
...hopefully in favor of the WWE. I could give a rat's ass about wrestling, but lie in the bed you made. - Koushiro, on 05/19/2009, -0/+6Reminds me of the time the NY Jets couldn't get a hotel room due to Gencon. Of course they reported it as a Star Wars convention...
Why the hell can't some silly basketball game be changed to a different day? - JGang05, on 05/19/2009, -2/+7You know what would fix this? Karl Malone and DDP Vs. Hollywood Hogan and Dennis Rodman.
- UNDERSTAR, on 05/19/2009, -1/+6Can't they just play basketball in the wrestling ring at the same time??? I think I'd created a new sport.
- FireandFlame, on 05/19/2009, -2/+7They would not only be breaking the contract with the WWE, they would be forcing the WWE to break the contract with the USA network, and paying hefty fines there, possibly including being kicked from the network for defaulting on their contract.
- chamorro, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5One things for sure, the WWE is benefiting from the publicity stirred up by the stupidity of the Nuggets owner.
- meed, on 05/19/2009, -0/+5The real issue is that the same people who booked the wrastling event own the arena. Meaning they didn't have faith in their own team. I say WWE should have the area, while the game gets played at the local HS/college.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -2/+6You're a real dick
- RiMac, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4Cooperation wins.
The Martin-Cuban feud was all an elaborate set-up.
Mother-son tag team ftw. - heedree, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4According to google trends, they're pretty much equally sought after by surfers :P
http://www.google.com/trends?q=nba%2C+wwe - CheatRZ, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4Notice Vince said in the video:
"A good business man doesn't book a World Wrestling Federation event..."
He's still doesn't want to give into the pandas... - Koushiro, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4The fact that it's basically calling itself entertaining sports means that bracket should go <
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4with folding metal chairs
- JackSchittt, on 05/19/2009, -0/+4WWE is 100% in the right here. But they're going to lose anyway. There is no possible way they can win in a clash against the NBA. If the NBA says they're not going to move the game, then it's not going to be moved. And there's nothing the WWE can do about it.
The WWE will eventually sue and win millions of dollars. But most likely, any winnings will be more than covered by the ticket sales, advertising revenue, etc. generated by the Lakers/Nuggets game.
The owner of the arena is going to lose millions one way or the other. But does he lose a few million by getting sued by the WWE, or does he lose tens of millions in fines, lawsuits, etc. from the NBA? It's really not a tough choice. - inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3It doesn't matter what the event is... first come, first serve.
- inactive, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3They didn't want to face ESPN so they decided to pass the buck to these two hoping to wash their hands of the situation. Letting the Nuggets fight the WWE is probably less hassle than taking on Disney.
- 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -0/+3Just seems like they would plan ahead for something this important
- sugarazor, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3It's quite unfortunate for WWE fans in Denver that the owner of the Nuggets/Pepsi Center has no faith in his own team. I just hope those fans get to see WWE soon and WWE is compensated for the inconvenience.
- likwidfuzion, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3You forgot to include "brother," "prayers," "vitamins," and "what'cha gonna do" somewhere in there.
- AceAMasta, on 05/19/2009, -0/+3http://i39.tinypic.com/2qinvcw.gif
- CaptainNoPants, on 05/19/2009, -0/+2WWE is going to be very happy in whatever compensation they receive, as they basically have the Nuggets owners balls in a vice.
