- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -0/+43Why is there a picture of Earl Clark next to this story?
- gianttoolbox11, on 06/25/2009, -2/+39Cleveland's trade for Shaq was like someone buying homeowner's insurance 4 weeks after losing everything in a house robbery.- Bill Simmons
- sqwigeebo, on 06/25/2009, -3/+23I don't know, shaq is probably in the best pre-season shape of his life right now, and remembering all the complaints from his former teams, that's saying a lot. It'll be interesting to see a Kobe/Bynum vs. Lebron/Shaq
- WhoRadley, on 06/25/2009, -2/+22And he finds out on Twitter: http://tcrn.ch/4d0
- getatmedigg, on 06/25/2009, -8/+26Shaq can't guard Dwight Howard.
- PleasantKiller, on 06/25/2009, -0/+17more like pau vs shaq because Bynum is either injured or in foul trouble
- justdru, on 06/25/2009, -6/+20Anyone else check his Twitter immediately upon reading this?
- anderzole, on 06/25/2009, -5/+16What a steal for the Cavs. But if they couldn't get by Orlando, I doubt Shaq will be enough to get Lebron to the promised land in a stronger Eastern Conference next year.
- NorrisTwithman, on 06/25/2009, -0/+10For one of the top 10 players of all time, Shaq has sure bounced around the league.
- kaiteng, on 06/25/2009, -1/+10No love for Big Z......
- Egotrippin, on 06/25/2009, -1/+9lol, that's my bad. I forgot to pick the thumbnail and I guess that was the default.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -0/+8I don't think this is a good fit. Usually on offense, All the Cavs play on the perimeter to keep the lane open for Lebron. Now Shaq is going to clog the lane the same way he did in Phoenix with Steve Nash. Then on defense, Shaq sucks at guarding the pick n roll which is what the Cavs need help on.
- cliffzdude, on 06/25/2009, -1/+8Just like this season. Oh wait.
- welestgw, on 06/25/2009, -0/+7Do you honestly think Lebron wants to leave a possible championship team to go to a team well below .500 that hasn't been set up around him? Mike Brown pretty much just lets Lebron do what he wants, which is all he wants.
- stormgren, on 06/26/2009, -0/+7Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.
First, Lebron has a very decent post game. Not great, but developing. Secondly, it is no longer Lebron's rookie season, and he has a consistent mid-range jumper, especially from the right wing, where he is deadly. Thus, we conclude that Lebron no longer simply drives the lane. Stop looking at film from 2004.
Second, the Cavs are basically the prototypical half-court offense. On the break, it's basically Lebron and whoever can keep up. They ALWAYS run half-court sets on offense and dig into the half-court on defense. The Cavs rarely look to run the floor unless there's a clear opening. So, the Cavs are being "forced" to do something they already do very, very well. - almondfilter3, on 06/25/2009, -3/+10An interesting story recently how Durant is being built around perfectly, and how Lebron isn't. Durant has Green, Westbrook, and someone else coming soon in the draft, to run with for years. Vets around Lebron drop off as their championship attempts die each year. Shaq's a total desperation move, if they don't win it next season, they just sealed Lebron's ticket elsewhere.
- woofers07, on 06/25/2009, -0/+7Knicks are a joke.
- nshapkar, on 06/25/2009, -0/+6Phoenix is a good basketball city, that is when the team's winning. Had they kept Shaq and Amare they would have had about $35 mil to spend on free agents next year, but we have a retard for a GM and a cheap owner who prefers to sell picks for cash, rather than develop a young team that would be good for years to come.
- Nlewis4, on 06/26/2009, -1/+7awesome trade for the cavs, ben wallace is a corpse and pavlovic is horribly inconsistent. plus an expiring contract
- nshapkar, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5I'm happy as a suns fan and I'm mad. Had they held on to him until his contract expires they would have $20 million available for next year's star studded free agency....they need to move up in the draft and take thabeet(sp?)
- FlaG8r, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5Big Z was worthless against Orlando.
- ginder, on 06/25/2009, -1/+6WTH??? this is a steal of cavs
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5That's from Chad Ford on the BS report isn't it? It was supposed to be Ricky Davis or Darius Miles first. They both failed. Then it was supposed to be Larry Hughes; that failed. Then it was supposed to be Mo Williams. Fail again. And you're right about Shaq; he's just a rental since this is the last year of his contract. If they don't win the championship, he almost certainly walks.
- lupka, on 06/25/2009, -1/+6he just has to slow him down enough without a double-team so the other guys can defend Orlando's 3-point shooters. He will do better than Varejao and Ilgauskas.
- mroberts940, on 06/25/2009, -3/+7Finally, the Cavs are building a team. I for one can't wait for King James to have a solid supporting cast
- skematik, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5HOLY CRAP Sasha Pavlovic traded to the Suns!!! WTF
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5Suns fan? =/
- cliffzdude, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5Best pre-season shape of his life? In June? There's a whole lotta off season to to yet. Besides, he's 37 now - he'll be 38 around playoffs next year. Howard has years until he starts to peak, years of improvement to go. Alas Shaq is a bit worn out.
I said it before the Cavs/Magic match-up this year, and I'll say it now regarding the upcoming season; don't count the Magic out. Orlando felt dumped on by Shaq back in the 90's. Sure he still lives in Orlando come the off season, but the Magic would love to put away Shaq come the playoffs. - SPRFRKR, on 06/25/2009, -0/+4I'd love to see Shaq shed a few pounds and get really in top shape this offseason to make a good run and retire at the top of his game with a ring to boot. As said before, he should have been the #2 (Wilt #1) center in the history of basketball, but he fell short of that goal. Top 5 or 10 regardless...
- bakaoni, on 06/25/2009, -1/+5I like how the article thinks that the Marion-Shaq deal was the Suns' biggest mistake, somehow forgetting Mike D'Antoni.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -2/+5Also
Shaqs twitter:
http://twitter.com/THE_REAL_SHAQ - nicktomyskins, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3his off season diet is first to none:
http://digg.com/d1qNng - brownsin07, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3That is the first time I've ever actually looked at a twitter site. Much like the first (only) time I went to White Castle, I wish I hadn't.
- paulmike3, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Keep dreaming, NY fans. The Knickerbockers are not the Yankees.
- ABip13, on 06/25/2009, -2/+5http://stocklemon.blogspot.com/2009/06/shaq-finds- ...
He apparently learned about it through twitter. - orthodoxDrew, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3like lead the league in FG%
- idontlikeyou2, on 06/25/2009, -2/+5The problem wasn't guarding Howard, its about getting Lebron some extra scoring help. Anyway, the three point shooter were a bigger problem than Howard.
- ZonGuy, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4I almost hope the Cavs win the championship next year, just so I can say, "LeBron couldn't win it without Shaq".
- ogleby, on 06/27/2009, -0/+3The vast majority of players don't start on a team from their city anyway...
- slicksoul999, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3The Suns need to get rid of Kerr!
- woofers07, on 06/25/2009, -4/+7Because you know, Shaq did SO much with the Suns this year.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -2/+4This is different with Lebron than it is for Kobe. The same way how no one says Dwayne Wade needs to win on without Shaq, they wont say it about Lebron. The reason they said it about Kobe was because, on the Lakers three peat team, Shaq was the number one option. He was carrying the team. It was a different situation in 2006 when Shaq was on the Heat. He was no longer the first option. Wade gets the credit for that championship, the same way Lebron would get the credit for this theoretical championship.
- paulmike3, on 06/25/2009, -1/+3Shaq will have Howard in foul trouble in the first quarter. You don't need to guard Howard if he's riding pine.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -1/+3Pavlovic is most likely getting cut. And who the hell is Gordon. Ben Gordon from the Bulls? Erik Gordon from the Clippers? I think you meant Ben Wallace, who is probably going to retire now. The Suns did this purely for financial reasons.
- Coercion, on 06/25/2009, -0/+220 million for a year is a steal?
- chuck667, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2Imagine how much a $20m expiring contract would have been worth at the Feb trade deadline this year.
*****' Kerr/Sarver. - okgenius33, on 06/25/2009, -2/+4It's a young Shaq silly.
- 1longtime, on 06/25/2009, -1/+3Yeah, that's alot of ego for one team.
- pandawa, on 06/25/2009, -2/+4would be a good trade if he wasnt so freaking old!
- ethon, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2Shaq is cutting some pounds. Follow @THE_REAL_SHAQ on Twitter...he's always talking about his new diet / workout.
