- bluesatin, on 11/30/2008, -2/+21I thought this was an Onion headline, I was severely dissapointed when it wasn't.
- shirotensaki, on 11/30/2008, -0/+18yeah, suuure it's for "research", nice excuse. 20 bucks says he's just locking himself in his office just to play it.
- Darren07, on 11/30/2008, -1/+14Playing NBA Live proves that you shouldn't be picked, because NBA Live sucks.
NBA 2K series is beginning to suck as well. - inactive, on 11/30/2008, -0/+9'Gilbert Arenas, the former Van Nuys Grant High star, is on the cover of this year's NBA Live 08 video game.'
'this year's NBA Live 08'
Really, I know EA's naming systems are confusing, but couldn't they have done a little more research? - FrankTheTank17, on 11/30/2008, -0/+9People seriously trust these player ratings in the NBA games? Anybody who knows enough about the NHL and plays the NHL games know that most of the ratings EA gives to certain players are complete crap...
- patasenko89, on 11/30/2008, -0/+8No wonder why NBA players go to play in Europe.
- Stavrosian, on 11/30/2008, -0/+7There was a similar story recently that a team from the EPL (Everton) had signed a deal with the company that makes the game Football Manager to allow them to use the game's database for scouting and recruitment purposes.

I suppose if the game manufacturers are putting the effort in, it must be nice for them to see the esteem their work is held in. Us nerds might not be able to run fast or shoot straight, but we can build accurate databases and analyze play patterns, damn it! - uberpsycho, on 11/30/2008, -0/+7That may just be the stupidest thing I've ever heard
- afterlife23, on 11/30/2008, -1/+8this sound stupid
- inactive, on 11/30/2008, -0/+6can EA please make a decent basketball game????
- spvn, on 11/30/2008, -1/+7wait... this isn't from the onion?!
- chrisemc, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4So basically NBA scouts are relying on motion capture suits and game developers to do their work for them. What happens when Timmy McSportsNerd game developer for EA decides that Andrew Bogut is the greatest thing since Wilt Chamberlin and should dominate virtual competition?
- SyntraFTW, on 11/29/2008, -2/+6I was always thinking people should do this with Fifa. Especially when there are a buttload of leagues and therefore players. Not as cool in the NBA.
- tamaker, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4I use COD 5 (specifically the double barrel shotgun) to evaluate how blowing your head off your shoulders makes me laugh.
- thelastcivilian, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4Watching game film is apparently too hard.,,
- rabbitmo, on 11/30/2008, -0/+4He probably received a nice amount of money to say this right before Christmas.
- Jeffler, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3What are you talking about? Andrew Raycroft was obviously nearly as good as Roberto Luongo in 06/07!
- cidman2001, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3That sinks it...I want to be a professional sports scout!
- zadadka, on 11/30/2008, -1/+4Of course your team's dynamic, and its consequent plays are going to be improved, both statistically and on a more human level, if you bring a high-calibre player into your team.
But, whilst we all know that basing a teams' capabilities and plays on the existence of one individual is cooking your own goose, it seems to me that basing a player's ability quotient on a video game sounds like an even bigger recipe for disaster....indeed, I would call it "The Digital Method to Self-Eviscerate".
Really, does he not understand that the game's applied "ability quotient" for his potential signing is only based on the opinions of others?
This is like saying "will I get laid more if I am rich?".
I just don't need software to answer that.
Try asking your software, "what do I need to do to get laid more", or in this case, "what does my existing team need to do in order to change its existing dynamic (to improve plays)". - defeatedtea, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3This is hilarious! There new Dynamic DNA is totally sweeping sports sim fans.
I can't believe anyone would use this professionally, I wonder if they have a different version >.>.!! - bscott85, on 12/01/2008, -0/+3They should use NBA 2K9 because Live is a joke now and hasn't been good since '05
- wollsmosh, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3That's retarded
- mikejamesss, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3how is this not an article from the onion?
- Alheithinn, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3I know the military uses simulations in their training, but that's different than using simulations to evaluate talent. How accurate are the models used in the game? I've never found them very accurate in any game I've played. I can't imagine why anyone in charge of personnel decisions would trust a game somebody made for entertainment more than his own judgment, knowledge, and experience. Crazy.
- SpinAlley, on 11/30/2008, -0/+3Heck, why have sports at all?
Soccer (football) is just kicking a small ball into a 24-foot goal!
American football is just a game of catch!
Anyone can play professional sports!
/s - digglet08, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2i buried
- Jaspah, on 11/30/2008, -1/+3They're not researching whether or not they can shoot. They're looking if he plays offensively or defensively, how he passes or when he passes, what side of the court he prefers playing on, etc. It's nowhere near as dumb as it sounds.
Read the article, not the title. - FrankTheTank17, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2Exactly, it's as if they watched the sport for a month like 5 years ago and just use the same ratings for every year. It's stupid beccause if a player was hot for most of one year and then was a bust for the rest of their career, they'll be listed as good as they were when they were hot for the next 5 years.
- HelplessSEAL, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2So what would you call a "serious" sport then? Can YOU consistently knock down 3 pointers or drive to the hoop past 7 foot monsters? Basketball is a game of consistency and strength, I don't think anyone who tries can get into even high school ball, let alone the NBA.
- sorenchr, on 11/30/2008, -1/+3That is ***** stupid and i hope it is a joke.
- Tamorok, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1I bet the Thunder use it.
- WickedKoala, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1This is an incredibly stupid idea. For instance in the Madden games, the player ratings are decided on by a couple of guys and they use no detailed analysis to come up with a player's rating - they just give them a number that 'feels about right' based on their limited knowledge about said player.
- belandrew, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1i hope its not cuz it proves to me that the NBA is a joke, i only watch for the shoe squeaking
- HyphySoul, on 11/30/2008, -1/+2wtf...this is...real?
- digglet08, on 11/30/2008, -1/+1This is joke?
- ithejosh, on 11/30/2008, -2/+2wtf? thats what the whole game is about what else would they do if they didn't do that
- SlapSticDotCom, on 11/30/2008, -4/+1That black guy is shiny.
- psykiv, on 11/30/2008, -5/+2I had no idea that the developers put *that* much effort into the stats of the players in a video game.
Wow. - inactive, on 11/30/2008, -5/+1The rest of the world has been doing this with serious games for years. Of course, with joke sports like "Basketball" you don't really need great players - anyone can do a good job, just throw a ball through a hoop!

- MuffinFlavored, on 11/30/2008, -14/+8This is why I have no interest in professional sports.
