- calvinw, on 12/20/2008, -1/+18lol. "smothering"? no, just a really good game. kobe is still my ninja, even though he missed that jump shot.
- rrc589, on 12/20/2008, -0/+9The Lakers are definitely the third best team in the league.
1. Celtics
2. Cavs - dngermouse, on 12/20/2008, -0/+8A truly suspenseful 4th quater, great time to be an NBA fan.
- LiquidIse, on 12/20/2008, -1/+7While I understand that the Lakers scored very little this game... 2 points is hardly smothering
- starscream45, on 12/20/2008, -0/+6Didn't know a game that came down to the very last second was considered a smothering.
Very good game though! If Derek Fisher and Gasol would have made their free throws the Lakers would've won. The only bad part about the game was both team's free-throw shooting. - TeflonFong, on 12/20/2008, -2/+7D-Wade's shot to close the 3rd was ninja.
- DRT23, on 12/20/2008, -1/+6The Heats must have rims like the ones at my ghetto neighborhood court...
- Archimedes0212, on 12/20/2008, -0/+4I agree with benhuge. A 2 point win is not worthy of the verb 'smother'. Also, when reading the article, the game was a few inches from going into overtime - sounds more like the title should be "Miami Heat Snap Losing Streak By Just Barely Beating Lakers"
- bicyclethief, on 12/20/2008, -0/+4D Wade's jumper has drastically improved
- Subduction, on 12/20/2008, -0/+3Although "mashed potatoes smothered in homestyle gravy" does not imply that there is actually only two percent more gravy, or that the chef just barely managed to get the gravy on before dinner was over.
- benhuge, on 12/20/2008, -1/+4Smothering? 89-87. Right. Maybe as smothering as irfanmp's gut on some poor prostitute that he just paid, from Miami.
Lakers will vindicate last years Finals loss. Guaranteed! - Lkr721993, on 12/20/2008, -0/+3Kobe having 28 points doesn't sound like he was shut down. Then again, we are talking about Kobe, so 28 points isn't a lot.
- triscuitbiscuit, on 12/20/2008, -0/+3I agree... a two point differential is not smothering... If it was 119-87, then I would call that a smothering.
- shamanking911, on 12/20/2008, -0/+22 Points = Smothering? then what's a 20 point win?
- tmacfan123, on 12/20/2008, -0/+2kobe just had terrible luck. i can perfectly understand why he was smiling when he missed that shot thinking of his luck cause that ball was like 75% down and then somehow popped back out.
- funknjunk, on 12/20/2008, -1/+3Actually a smothering it indeed was. This was the lowest scoring output by the Lakers the entire season. Bynum should've been able to dominate against the Heat's bigmen but instead he barely did anything.
- dselliott, on 12/20/2008, -0/+2Predictable prediction: the Lakers will not win the championship this year.
- sgvprelude, on 12/20/2008, -0/+2Smothering is:
Celtics 126
Bulls 108 - inactive, on 12/22/2008, -0/+2Non Playoff contender? Miami is in line for the 6-8th seed in the east.
- gojcaj, on 12/20/2008, -2/+4smothered - held in check with difficulty; "a smothered cough"; "a stifled yawn"; "a strangled scream"; "suppressed laughter"
- inactive, on 12/21/2008, -0/+2D wades 3rd quarter closing 3 pointer was the best shot of the game. Hell of a game, go heat!
- SpinAlley, on 12/22/2008, -0/+1Looks like Digg's gotten over its crush on the Lakers. =(
- inactive, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1It's been real good since about his 3rd season.
- dngermouse, on 12/20/2008, -1/+2I thought it was excellent defense to get the hand in Kobe's face at the end.. it may not have looked like much cuz the shot almost went in but it did just enough.
- tmacfan123, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1okay they didn't "smother" the lakers. They barely won and they played a bad 4th quarter as they lost a double digit lead in the final minutes and were just lucky that Bryant's shot went halfway in and came out. overall though it was still a good effort by the heat to hold the lakers to 87 points but they didn't "smother" them
- ObiNguyen, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1I'm a D. Wade and Heat fan, but that was definitely not a smothering. I will say I'm glad they pulled the win off while holding the Lakers to the lowest points per game so far this season. At least I got to gloat for a day.
- drummerdude, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1Smothering is:
Cavs 105
Nuggets 88 - carbbomb, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1I hardly call a 2 point win "smothering."
- dominguez73, on 12/20/2008, -3/+4Hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Hoping the Lakers can make the Finals again.
- JerkNowitzki, on 12/20/2008, -2/+2Yes, exactly! They do not take each game seriously, like Boston does. They're not hungry at all.
Everyone saying it's the Lakers' year cannot name a second player on the team, but they can all name one, guess who that is....? - vision777, on 12/20/2008, -0/+0This must have been promoted by a Heat fan because a 2 point win can go either way. Every team has their off nights where they might not score as many points.
- Tichondrius74, on 12/20/2008, -1/+1You're the only one that feels that way. Just look at the comments above.
- shakenblake9, on 12/20/2008, -3/+3dwayne wade's a whining bitch.
- mandraque, on 12/20/2008, -1/+1when wade was covering him he didnt get a chance at a clear shot. when marion and others got him he got better looks.
- ShayDetta, on 12/20/2008, -0/+0Read the article b4 u talk crap. The Lakers commited over 20 turnovers because of the Heat's "smothering defense" though some of those turnovers were unforced (hungover). Welcome to WadeCounty.
- lovemorgul, on 12/20/2008, -3/+2Coaches urged him to snap out of it. If Houston was going to win....
- SantaClauz, on 12/20/2008, -6/+5D-wade is a god among men, and with that being said, I think he definitely deserves more praise than he gets. For being the leading NBA scorer and arguably the most explosive player in the league, he gets overlooked.
- mandraque, on 12/20/2008, -3/+1I was there. The game was horribly played by both teams for most of the game untill late 2nd, some of the third. The Heat won because Kobe didnt score once on Wade, and he was covering kobe like half the time. And Wade just took over the last seconds while the whole crowd chanted MVP. It was the best ending game i have ever been to that i remember.
- cadmiumpaint, on 12/20/2008, -3/+1Once again the Lakers struggle with a non playoff contender.
Why does everyone think its the Lakers year? The way they are playing they'll be lucky if they sneak into the playoffs.
Get ready for the Christmas Day ass kicking. Celtics will slaughter the fakers. - starscream45, on 12/20/2008, -8/+3Or he COULD be a ball hog. Just sayin'.
Oh and calling him a god sounds gay. Just so you know. - ScottyAnimal, on 12/20/2008, -12/+4Go Celtics!
- hi_im_timbo, on 12/20/2008, -10/+2There's never a good time to be an NBA fan
