Yeah that's my feelings exactly... it seems like they invented the season champion just to reward a team that played well during the season but couldn't play well in the tournament. Which doesn't make sense because they're about to have to play in an even bigger tournament against tougher teams.

- 1999ncsu, on 03/16/2009, -0/+2ACC season/conference champion doesn't matter as much these days as it did before. I don't know the year it changed, but the NCAA tournament only allowed the conference champion to play. In the ACC the conference champion was the team who won the tournament.
Season champion was something to come along more recently, to award the team for playing well all season.
Being an NC State alum, I would love to see State win either of them, but I want to see them win the tournament more. - DrHoliday, on 03/16/2009, -0/+1I'm glad to see UCONN as a top seed. Certainly without Dyson they're at a disatvantage, but if Kemba Walker steps up his game (or if Austrie gets more consistent) then they may have a chance at the title, especially if Thabeet keeps up his meteoric rise.

What is the point of the conference tournament if the winner is not the conference champion?

I'm a bit worried about Gonzaga in the South...that's a tough bracket. Probably another pre-Elite 8 exit for sure.
San Diego State getting snubbed was weak. I don't think the NCAA tournament is as ***** up as the BCS is, but there is a problem with scheduling for smaller schools and conferences. There might be a better use of RPI for scheduling, especially if there were an independent body that managed it.
