- diggum85, on 11/29/2008, -2/+27Sir Charles: "I can be bought. If they paid me enough, I'd work for the Klan."
- TitanX13, on 11/29/2008, -8/+25just a childish insult. Also, he isn't that classy
- KibblesnBitts, on 11/29/2008, -4/+21Charles Barkley was in Space Jam, LeBron James had the honor of watching said movie at the age of 11
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -16/+32I don't think LeBron said anything disrespectful; he just answered a question with honest generalities. He's about as classy as professional athletes come, especially for being just 23 years old.
- cuoops, on 11/29/2008, -1/+15He didn't call him stupid head. "He's stupid. That's all I've got to say about that," James said Friday.
Charles is right though. He should not focus on 2yrs from now. He should focus on his game and the team. - diam0ndice9, on 11/29/2008, -3/+16Classy? Letting your fans know two years in advance that you're all about your big Free Agency payday and having absolutely no qualms with a preemptive "***** you, hometown" is not classy.
- shiddysmurf, on 11/29/2008, -9/+20Stupid head? That's impossible, a person can be stupid. But a head? That's impossible.
- thePTS, on 11/29/2008, -0/+11still hurts eh? :(
- MrForbs, on 11/29/2008, -13/+22To be fair, Charles Barkley isn't exactly the brightest commentator out there.
- sirdandan, on 11/29/2008, -3/+12Anyone else REALLY disappointed he didn't actually call him a "Big Fat Stupid Head"?
Anywho, LeBron should not of bothered responding to the original comments, just makes him seem childish. That and no one really gives a ***** what he thinks. He should just shut the ***** up and play the game. - lastmaster, on 11/29/2008, -1/+8like that time in grade three when a girl called me stupid face...
- sleze, on 11/29/2008, -4/+11Being from Philadelphia, I actually really like Charles Barkley. His big mouth was entertaining but not in a divisive way that Allen Iverson was. He was actually witty. That said, he is being a Big, Fat Hypocrite. Charles begged to be traded and publicly discussed leaving Philadelphia for many years.
Shame on you, Sir Charles. - jlhoben, on 11/29/2008, -9/+15Barkley was right. Most entertaining/insightful commentator in basketball.
- MrBorisYeltsin, on 11/29/2008, -7/+13LBJ is Lyndon B. Johnson, not LeBron James.
That being said, I would rather see LBJ play for the New York Nickerbockers rather than LeBron play for any team in Europe. - TMTurtle, on 11/29/2008, -1/+6I'm a personal supporter of Lebron's "Great Society" policies.
- TitanX13, on 11/29/2008, -1/+6ill give you that one
- Anarchistry, on 11/29/2008, -9/+14dugg for the big fat stupid head
- inflames, on 11/29/2008, -2/+6i miss michael jordan he give complete respect to all
- metapop, on 11/29/2008, -1/+5yep, he's a libertarian
http://www.rateitall.com/i-873849-charles-barkley- ... - jason4188, on 11/29/2008, -2/+6I agree. I have thought LeBron was a douche far before this though. I was reading a SI article on him around three years ago. They were talking about his multi million dollar mansion he was building. That is no big deal at all, then came the shocker. He was having a giant statue of himself built in front of the house. Are you ***** kidding me? Who has a statue of them self built anywhere much less in front of your house? Who does he think he is Joseph Stalin? I guess his ego is as big as his pay checks.
- iLemon, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4You shouldn't put Marbury and Lebron in the same sentence. Do you even follow sports?
- cousar, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3Have you seen the size of Barkley's head?
- slaystench, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3Barkley's memory must be going at his old age, because I remember him in a similar situation when he played. I'm assuming that's why Lebron called him stupid.
- golferv, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4The King is absolutely disrespecting Cleveland fans by playing to the Knicks. The fans have supported him hugely and they deserve at least the illusion that they have a chance. He doesn't need to campaign like this.
And if Charles Barkley isn't the funniest ex athlete out there, I don't know who is. Check out his quotes:
http://www.blacksportsonline.com/index/2008/09/rl5 ... - drifter, on 11/29/2008, -1/+4What is with all the Lebron James haters? This guy is the most amazing basketball player, if not the most amazing athlete ever. He is a little cocky, but he is 23 and amazing.
He has done nothing to hate him, besides being good and people who hate others due to their skills are pathetic. - PaperKutter, on 11/29/2008, -0/+3what a knuckle heaaaad
- krahzee, on 11/29/2008, -2/+4So LeBron gets asked about his upcoming free agency and has the nerve to be vague? Scumbag.
Look, the media is going to ask him. He can't stop them. They put him in a lose - lose here. If he admits he's thinking of moving on after this deal he's a bad teammate for causing a distraction. If he swears he's staying and does not he's a man who lied to the Cleveland fans.
Either way, he can't ignore the questions which are only going to get louder.
For what it is worth LeBron and another big name (or two if they get rid of Curry's bad contract) are moving into the Garden in 2010. He won't be able to resist being the the man who brought the franchise back on the biggest stage in the world. - firsttube, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2Zing!
- ThugThrasher, on 11/29/2008, -1/+3He's trying to. But ESPN and the like won't let him wait.
- socomoddjob, on 11/29/2008, -2/+4Barkley should work on his golf game...
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -31/+33lebron is a disgrace, you get paid millions to play for the team you're on, him and marbury are the two biggesst spoiled dicks
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -5/+7Clever use of words there.
- sp89, on 11/29/2008, -1/+3In case you haven't been watching, his game this season can probably be defined by amazing.
- Ajajadude, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2It's one thing to publicly talk about your want to be traded (which is bad to begin with). It's another to talk about how you're probably going to skip town 2 years from now because you know some other team is going to offer you more money. That's pretty lame.
- au071, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1Well, so Lebron is not the perfect young men; just the same greedy NBA athlete.
- AmyVernon, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1Well, if you say so.
- kingp, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Have. Should not HAVE.
- Ajajadude, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1And what does this have to do with the fact that he's still under contract through next season? Does he think he's getting a pay raise from the Cavs now?
- stormgren, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Back from when? When was New York ever the biggest basketball team? Even when they won championships the Lakers were considered "bigger".
The big name markets are LA and Boston. Lebron's not going there. Not to mention, a ton of players don't go to big name markets any more. Steve Nash in Phoenix, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker in San Antonio... these aren't big markets. Garnett spent 12 years in Minnesota, and you still heard about him (even if he wasn't winning championships there). These are still big names... In small markets.
Why would Lebron leave a championship-caliber Cavs team in his hometown to play for the Knicks who have just thrown away at least two seasons just to rebuild. That just means it'll be even longer before he wins a championship. Jordan was considered great not just because of his rings but because he built up his team from scratch to dynasty level, pretty much by himself.
If Lebron can't manage to win a championship without selling out to NYC to surround himself with all-stars then he'll still be considered second to Jordan. If he manages to win in Cleveland he will probably go down as the best ever. - bbevan7, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1LeBron James is the new LBJ. I'm sorry if it hurts you that 2 people have the same nickname.
- Chubs879, on 11/29/2008, -1/+2Um, he's right? Charles Barkley IS stupid.
- hawksfan03, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1everyone saying lebron is playing for 2 years from now... have you seen how his team is doing this year? 2nd in the East, don't say he's 'playing for two years from now' because he's not, he's working hard to get this team to the finals and he's got a good shot at doing so
- NorthMass, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1False
- stormgren, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1Hold on, so you're saying that free agents don't always go to the big markets... and yet, Lebron will.
Lebron has Ben Wallace performing as well as he did in Detroit and Z playing his best in years, plus legitimate options in Delonte West, Mo Williams and Anderson Varejao. Jordan was legendary because he built up the Bulls from scratch into a dynasty, as I said before. If Lebron moves because the Knicks can sign someone else with him he will never be considered to be at Jordan's level. As I said before.
Lebron has just as much of a legitimate shot of winning in Cleveland as in New York.
The Cavs have less than $40 million in salary commitments in 2010 (as do the Knicks). They are perfectly capable of resigning Lebron AND getting another star, such as Chris Bosh. He doesn't need to go to New York for that to happen. He can pick his Pippen in Cleveland as well.
My entire point was that there's absolutely no benefit to "the biggest market in the country" and many players don't feel the need to go there any more. I cited Nash, Duncan, Parker, and we might as well add Bosh as well. They're not in big markets. They're still famous. They're still contenders. New York isn't special, despite all the media. It's just big and shiny. I don't care if Lebron loves it there, that doesn't mean he'll play there. - owls27, on 11/30/2008, -0/+1LeBron is just doing what his manager told him to do.
- 0v3rk1ll, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1What the *****'s LeBron complaining about anyway? If he's even half a man of what people are saying about him he wouldn't have to respond like that. This just shows what a jerk he is.
- NorthMass, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Charles isn't good at making basketball predictions(lol mavs will sweep warriors, jazz will beat spurs 4-1 lolol) but he is very good on politics and telling the truth when no one wants to hear it. One of my favorite players of all time, and an awesome guy who doesn't take himself seriously.
- ThugThrasher, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Honestly, it's likely that he did throw something in there about that, but the media doesn't pull THOSE sentences from when they interview him, they only quote the ones that MIGHT indicate that he MAY be thinking of leaving.
- ThugThrasher, on 11/29/2008, -3/+4As much as I don't really like Lebron James, he hasn't done anything really wrong about the Free Agent thing.
He gets bombarded with questions and the vast majority of his answers do NOT indicate that he's even really thinking about leaving. He mostly just says he wants to win championships and he thinks the organization at Cleveland is willing to put a program together that will help him do that. However, he is perfectly open with the fact that when he becomes a free-agent, there will be other big free-agents and therefore it is a big deal. He is also perfectly open with the fact that if things aren't going right at Cleveland and he gets a better offer from somewhere that he thinks will give him a better chance of winning a championship, he will probably take it. I personally think it's great that he's willing to take a little flack for being honest, even though if you read/watch the interviews with him ALL THE WAY THROUGH, rather than just the single sentences the media likes to quote, you'll see that he seems to be leaning more to STAYING than to LEAVING. (And is more concerned with games NOW than 2 years from now) - sp89, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Just a bitter hater.
