Put yourself in the ATL player's position- I am trying to score a layup and there is a damn hand on my NECK and I did NOT do anything to draw the contact...you have players who do a shot fake and jump into the player in the air and get calls- this guy did NOT force his neck out to draw contact- the Laker player initiated contact with his left hand; whether it was lodged/cradled or not is not the point- it still is a foul, an unfortunate unintentional contact call...but a legitimate foul call.

Not to mention the guy had a terrible angle on it. The contact there looked incidental to me. Even if his left hand didn't touch him the ref blew the whistle before he ever saw it.
