- YoungLiar, on 01/05/2009, -3/+15im loving this, its like living in the 70's and 80's when the lakers and celtics were going ***** one everyone
- deaddjembe, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9Unless the Cavs snatch it from the both of them. Cleveland's putting up a hell of a fight. It will be interesting to watch Friday nights game with the Cavs and the Celtics.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8I never thought I'd live to see the next chapter of the Lakers / Celtics rivalry. The basketball gods are smiling down on us. Anything less than a rematch would be a let down for sure.
- dcoolidge, on 01/05/2009, -1/+8Lebron has a stronger supporting cast this year. And the Celtics have a weaker supporting cast. Cavs should beat the Celtics...
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+7There was an LA Times article a while back, worst 18 - 2 team in the league I think it was, and while it was tongue-in-cheek, there still are some worries here in LA with the team's defensive effort and consistency when you look over and see Boston blowing teams out what seems like every other night.
OBTW, Cleveland's looking pretty strong, too. Thankfully we only have to deal with either one or the other. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+8It's funny because I don't know any real Lakers fans who are entirely happy with the way the team has played so far. The team's D disappears far too often. Still, best record in the league + weaker Utah, Dallas, Houston (maybe) + stronger East = Lakers cruising to championship.
- SnuKs, on 01/05/2009, -1/+7Lakers bench mob.. something the Celtics would kill for.
- carbbomb, on 01/05/2009, -5/+10Go Lakers!!!
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5Magic are still missing one big man, and a reliable 2 guard - although I like Courtney Lee a lot. Besides, I could see the Magic beating the Cavs or the Celtics, but not both.
- xxacefirexx, on 01/05/2009, -2/+7Lakers are back at it again! Looks like Kobe's finally gonna get another ring.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4@Shikamoo Yeah, I did see that article and thought it was dead on. The Cavs are looking pretty darn good but I'm not sure if their front court can overcome the Lakers' bigs. Of course, if the teams did meet in the playoffs it would be in the Finals, and you know LeBron would be playing 46 minutes a game.
@akermani - It's not stronger than the west with the top teams, but overall it has improved from previous years. The West already has a few dreadful teams: Warriors, Grizz, Thunder, Clips, Kings. While the east has only the Wiz who look god-awful. - chrisinsocalif, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5LAKERS!!!!!!!!
- ramzor, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5its going to be lakers vs celtics or cavs in the finals. i don't see the magic getting there yet. either way GO LAKERS!
- msissio, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4LAKERS
- JoeMeatball, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Big whoop, they've had 19 home games so far
- kolop1, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Still can't beat Boston.
- Botond, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Ahem...Christmas Day forget much? KICKED THE CELTICS ASSES.
GO LAKERS!! - lafan313, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2I see a rap performance in Shaq's future.
- nickceleb, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Same thing as last year.
- carbbomb, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2David Stern is already instructing his refs to make sure this happens. Hello ratings!
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2lakers!!!
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Lakers / Celtics is the ultimate match up ratings-wise, and I believe some of what that one disgraced ref said was probably true (as much as you can believe a crook) but I'll have to see evidence before I subscribe to the conspiracy theory.
- JoeMeatball, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Due to the total weakness of the East in general, any awful team there is even worse.
Due to the total strength of the West in general, any awful team there is better than most teams in the East.
When was the last time a sub 500 team made the playoffs in the West? Never!
When was the last time a sub 500 team made the playoffs in the East? Every year! Often more than one! - xxacefirexx, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1i think it was the corn.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Bury me all you want, but you Laker fans know it's true. Even remotely talking about the Finals is ludicrous at this point, especially with the injury-prone Laker line-up.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1Wow, I didn't expect this comment to be buried.
How exactly do you disagree with this statement? Any Lakers fan will agree, we play for Post season and Finals.
Get to the show, and put on the jewelry. - inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1hard to digest.
- antdude, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1Except Lakers smash Celtics in the finals. :)
- 7Wiseguy, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Ariza!
- deema1, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1Digg, you racists.
- SnuKs, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Boston - Still no depth
- starscream45, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Does your mommy know your on the computer saying things like this?
- shack, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1Overall, I agree that the east is weaker than the west (given that there are still eastern teams with sub-500 records that are in strong contention for playoff spots).
But when it comes to the top tier NBA teams (that is in performance, not record) it's easy to see that 4 of the top 5 teams are in the East (Lakers, Cleveland, Boston, Orlando, Milwaukee).
Its gonna be Lakers vs. Cleveland/Boston in the finals (and given the way that the Cavs have been playing when completely healthy, I could easily see Bron Bron winning his first chip this year) - sam10685, on 01/06/2009, -1/+1Yep. She's the one that said I should say that.
- datdamonfoo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+0Who is koby?
- Stupidtourist, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1I hate the Lakers. Go Utah Jazz!
- kkm3, on 01/05/2009, -0/+0And so have the Celtics. And they are both 18-1. anything else you wanna big whoop?
GO LAKERS! - phatsi, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1Ya.. if you really think Orlando will get past any combo of Atlanta, Detroit, Cavs or Celts you are out of your mind
- powerdoom, on 01/05/2009, -4/+32009 NBA finals will be between Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic.
- yammy1688, on 01/05/2009, -1/+0I think Phil's letting them off the hook for the time being because the season is still relatively young. By and large, the Lakers are able to turn up the defensive intensity seemingly at will. I think you're going to see a serious push towards the latter half of the season. I'm almost thinking Farmar's injury is a blessing in disguise at this point.
- brsteve88, on 01/05/2009, -2/+1I hate the Lakers because I hate seeing all the celebrities there rooting for them. I remember seeing Denzel Washington at a Lakers game cheering for them while wearing a Yankees hat. Could you be any more bandwagon? At least pick a city and stay with it.
- JasonQG, on 01/05/2009, -3/+1How Golden will they feel after getting their asses handed to them by Golden State?
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -4/+1east is not stronger than the west
- dngermouse, on 01/05/2009, -6/+2Atlanta Hawks for life
- sinisterouge, on 01/05/2009, -9/+4finals this year are gonna be sick, lets hope for a rematch... Go Celtics!
- sam10685, on 01/05/2009, -7/+2kobe is a fag and the lakers should rot in hell.
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -8/+2It don't mean a thing, if you don't win the bling.
- Joest23, on 01/05/2009, -8/+2I have a good feeling about the Thunder, this season. They're my pick for the NBA Championship. Sure, they may be... 4 and 30...
- jazino, on 01/05/2009, -6/+0Buried for a sports update. Call me when someone wins the chanpionship.
