- gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't be so quick to put him in the NBA. He's repeatedly said that he feels he's not ready for NBA.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love the notion that you can't be a good player unless your team wins a championship every year.
I guess Garnett sucks too, huh? - thetanbark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5He won because he was 75% of the entire team for Texas, with D.J. Augustin being the other 25%. Augustin is a great passer and point guard for the team, but without him in there, the rest of Texas, including Durant, looks like trash. When Durant scores 20+ points a game and gets worn out playing for 3 other guys, he can't be expected to keep Texas close when it's late in the 2nd half.
Look how they played against Kansas, both in the Big 12 and in the NCAA tourney:
(1) Texas had a lead of SIXTEEN POINTS and blew it in the Big 12 championship thanks to Augustin being in foul trouble and Durant being a tired dog after draining 25+ points.
(2) Texas had a lead of like OVER TWENTY POINTS against KU... AT KU (one of the toughest places to win on the road in the country) and blew it...
It's not so much hype, the kid is amazing, but damn, get him some help on the bench and Texas has a great shot at #1 in the Big 12 next year. - Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Man i hope its not boston.
I love kevin durant and I have nothing wrong with the celtics.. But if he plays for the celtics, then in order to watch him I'll have to listen to Tommy Heinsohn's commentary.
Tommy heinsohn's a hall of famer, and was a great player. But he's the worst local sports commentator there is. He's incredibly rude, is often yelling at refs and opposing players and makes some pretty terrible comments for being a guy who represents the franchise with the most championships.
Noone makes me mad like Heinsohn when it comes to sports.
"Boy, if I had the chance I'd choke Damon Jones to death"
Classy guy. - gatekeepertx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4not only did KD live up to the hype- he TRANSCENDED the HYPE and destroyed his competition. Dude is the truth. unbelievable baller.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oden will definitely not be the next Sam Bowie. He may be the next Olajuwon in that analogy, not sam bowie.
- milocat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3seriously....this guy is made for the rest of his life now!
- Mitsukai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*ahem*
"Durant, the Big 12 player and freshman of the year, shot 47 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line. He averaged 36 minutes per game and led the Longhorns in steals and blocked shots. He had 20 double-doubles and scored at least 30 points a Big 12-record 11 times."
Yeah, if it wasn't for the hype he wouldn't have gotten close to those stats. [insert rolling eyes] - VMark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Congratulations Boston or Memphis you mean.
- Firefreezer17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kevin Durant is an amazing basketball player. He's very fluent w/ the basketball and can flat-out shoot it from anywhere. He carried Texas completely this year; with 4 freshman and 1 Sophomore they definitely wouldn't have had that 25-10 record without him. No matter if he stays in college or goes to the NBA, it's gonna be amazing watching him for years to come.
- jkavvy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3thetanbark:
Texas lost all their starters from last year and was starting a team of 4 freshmen and 1 sophmore. They did the best with what they had (which included a lack of bench support). - quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Except he said he is staying, or at least seriously considering it.
- circa1015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As a UT fan, all I can say is that I am praying to Vishnu, Apollo, Allah, and FSM that he decides to return for his sophmore year. With him back as a sophmore, plus Augustin being a sophmore and Abrams being a junior, UT should be looking at a 1-3 seed in the tourney next year.
Also, RCcola159, I think that UT was ranked preseason. I think. On ESPN, their week 1 ranking was 19, and I think I recall them being in that area before the season started. - Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2(he didnt make it to the sweet sixteen)
They were eliminated in the 2nd round - athlonmj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Makes sense now that the NCAA has instituted the policy where high school graduates are not eligible for the draft. I predict we'll be seeing a lot of freshman winning this award in the upcoming years. O.J. Mayo in 2008 anyone?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Congrats Kevin! This guy can ball.
Oh, and bnoxiousasshole...please die, now. - RCcola159, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I never said he had to win, i meant that it was a shame, because i wanted them to go farther in the tourney
- jkavvy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2RCcola159:
As I stated above, Texas had no returning starters from last year and were fielding a team of 4 freshmen and 1 sophmore. They weren't even ranked in the preseason polls and the fact they made it to the tournament is incredible in and of itself. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More like the next Herb Williams. He already looks like he's 43.
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2and this will happen a lot more now that you have to be 1 year out of high school to play in the NBA. this guy would have been NBA rookie of the year a few years ago.
- Kugellehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1either way the jayhawks beat em. Twice.
sucks that my bracket i had Kansas vs Texas in the championship...oh well - ratbear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Kevin Durant=The Next Rashard Lewis
- diggleague, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Congratulations ... welcome to the NBA Kevin
- troymcdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, it's a shame he didn't have a better supporting cast. He got this award because he literally carried his team to the sweet sixteen; he captured the true essence of "most valuable player".

http://islam.paramegsoft.com - Cornedbeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Congrats Kevin Durant in winning the collegiate player of the year.
- brainxs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Amazing. I couldn't see any graphics in IE7 or FF.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I hope someone doesn't pick Sam Bowie, er, I mean Oden, over this guy.
- DrewBledsoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0jwoey, are you kidding me? One of the best things about watching the celtics is listening to Tommy Heinsohn. Sure he's a big-time homer, but you gotta love the passion.
No Tommy Point for you - RCcola159, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Too bad he couldn't lead his team to the win
- gardnmi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Congrats but you won because of the Hype.
