- alakalaka99, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Very sad indeed. Odd thing is, I was just at the exact coast he was, at a house in Depoe Bay. Passed by the Salishan resort he was at on my way home yesterday.
- gobeavs, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1RIP... :-(
I'm in the area right now....I think I can see the Salishan Lodge from my house. Kind of surreal. - gn0stik, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1So what do you think got him? Too much partying? Roids? Big fatty line? Combo deal?
Native American Poltergeists?
- gobeavs, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1RIP... :-(
- robbiedo, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1The bracing views of the Oregon Coast are simply heart stopping.

- burnin8r28, on 08/26/2008, -8/+19...who?
- Crackerpat, on 08/26/2008, -2/+11Man that is tragic. Always been a big fan of his.
- writeman4450, on 08/26/2008, -1/+25He was part of those powerful Portland teams with Clyde Drexler. It is a shame to see him go so young.
- selmer, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3I am from Portland and came home during Christmas break in 2002...me and my dad bumped into Duckworth at a circuit city and said hi. I kid you not, he was in full camoflage, with hat, buying batteries. He said after the NBA he bought a ranch out in Camby (BFE) and was spending his days hunting and fishing.
It is an imposing image, believe me. A seven foot, 450 lb, camo-clad dude. However, he was very cordial, talked to us willingly and was extremely down to earth. Me and my dad are big Blazer fans, have been for years and this was an awesome moment. The news made me very sad, but reminded me of that encounter and made me smile.
Know that the Duck lived how he wanted to live, and that was that. RIP big guy...

RIP - stereosaurus, on 08/26/2008, -1/+0He paid for Emilio Estevez's ragtag bunch of kids to get real equipment and jerseys in exchange for naming the team after him (Mighty Ducks). How could you forget such an important moment from such an important film?

- saranac7, on 08/26/2008, -0/+9Very sad indeed. he went to Eastern Illinois and after that did a lot of local work both there at in his hometown Chicago neighborhood. I worked with his sister for a few years and he was a true gentleman who gave back. Gone too soon.
RIP friend.- DeadFox1, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1
While I was at EIU, I saw him at Stu's (a bar in charleston, IL) in 1993. He stood out on the dancefloor like a giant among the students. RIP indeed.
- DeadFox1, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1
- Wilddigi, on 08/26/2008, -12/+6I'm not surprised anymore. My co-worker died in her sleep last week . She was 36 and black.

- sockpuppets, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Thus proving all black people die young and unexpectedly.

- suckanucka, on 08/26/2008, -5/+19Some people croak...
Kevin quacked. - bpm2000, on 08/26/2008, -0/+8"According to The News Guard, Duckworth visited Lincoln City to host a free basketball clinic for kids. He also was there to visit fans as part of the Trail Blazers "Make It Better" tour of the state."
Damn...
RIP DUCK! Thx for stepping up during the Bowie mess. - mlvassallo, on 08/26/2008, -0/+17I met Kevin Duckworth and Jerome Kersey in downtown Portland when I was a kid. It was very cool. They were near the Niketown just strolling down the street. That was a great team in those years.
- wendelgee2, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1And Clyde the Glide! (what an awful knickname...)

- mediaspree, on 08/26/2008, -2/+4He looks like he should have played center in the NFL, not the NBA. Perhaps there is a football field in heaven.
- gitrplaya4u, on 08/26/2008, -18/+4I saw this and said "Who's that?"
Then I saw that he was a Portland Trail Blazer and said "What's that?"
Then I saw that he was in the NBA and said "Oh, no wonder..."- JByrd, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Racist!
- gitrplaya4u, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Because I don't know anything about basketball?
- JByrd, on 09/10/2008, -0/+0no, because you saw NBA and said "Oh, no wonder..." is that not a racist implication? Maybe it's just me...
- JByrd, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Racist!
- Monkeywithacold, on 08/26/2008, -0/+13RIP CITY

- PhillyMJS, on 08/26/2008, -2/+11Dysentery.
- tightscrummy, on 08/26/2008, -3/+1Choked on his own vomit.
- Scrappy1850, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1heat attack... he was 7ft and at least 350
- Telmarine, on 08/26/2008, -6/+3who?
- wendelgee2, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3Oh man...I used to emulate his jump shot when I was a kid. He was a righty, and he would go up with both hands, and then take his left hand completely off the ball as he shot...so he basically shot one-handed. After I saw that, I realized that my two-handed shot wasn't right.
Thanks, Mr. Duckworth... - SupremeBeing, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3Wow, so he got out of the NBA and stopped working out altogether with out adjusting his high calorie diet? Michael Phelps, here's to hoping you always remember to work out or cut your massive diet.
- Ravenlark, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5Rest in Peace.
I knew it was a cardiac arrest as soon as I looked at his photo.
I know, I know... Digg me down. - NeoHomer, on 08/26/2008, -2/+8Dang. Dude was a legend here in Oregon and will be sorely missed. Makes a guy wonder....ya never know when it's time to go home.
He will surely be at Gods side. He was a sincere, nice man.
All my prayers to his family and friends. Losing some one in the prime of life is tough.- wendelgee2, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2How many people fit at "God's side"?
Is God super fat?- NeoHomer, on 08/26/2008, -3/+1Only the good ones, friend. I'll be there someday. You probably won't but I don't care, I'm busy looking to my own salvation.
- tightscrummy, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3He's so wide you can't get around him, so tall you get over him...
- wendelgee2, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1You just keep sucking up to that imaginary magic man in the sky, who despite being all-powerful doesn't seem to do *****. Seriously, how hard is it to realize that God is just Santa Claus for grown ups. If you're good you go to heaven (get presents), if you're bad you go to hell (a lump of coal). And he can see you when you're sleeping, and knows when you're awake. You have to be pretty gullible to fall for that past about 6 or 7 years old.
- ianam, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0Not just gullible, but willing to believe something just because they like it or dislike the alternative ... in this case, ceasing to exist, which surely is what happens when the body stops functioning, just as surely as locomotion stops when a car runs out of gas and becomes a pile of rust ... or dust.
- WhoDoneIt, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2I knew the god part was coming after I read the first word in his post.
- NeoHomer, on 08/26/2008, -2/+1I'd rather be happy and with God than ignorant and without Him.
- wendelgee2, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2or, you could be ignorant and with God, or happy and without him.
- ianam, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1"I'd rather be happy and with God than ignorant and without Him."
That's not the choice you have. You can be ignorant and believe in fiction, or you can be informed and disbelieve in fiction ... and the latter doesn't imply unhappiness (consider the fellow who gave The Last Lecture).
- wendelgee2, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2How many people fit at "God's side"?
- izthatu, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Great man and a Good basketball player always was a fan and reading how he helped others
was Terrific .R.I.P. and a big "RIP" city to you, those who know that saying are blazer fans.. - iammzac, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Why are so many people dying lately..?
Comedians, basketball players, dr. dre's son, musicians..- WhoDoneIt, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0So they don't have to be part of the blame for global warming.
- NeoHomer, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Not one single one of us gets out of here alive bud.
- ianam, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0"Why are so many people dying lately..?"
Someone dies on this planet every few seconds, fool.- iammzac, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1No *****, sherlock.
- YsoSerious57, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0I remember seeing him last year during a hafltime show for a Blazers game, he had to be 400+ bills. Ever since then I knew this day was probably coming.
RIP Duck - PosedMagnet, on 08/26/2008, -7/+1Who?
He drove Trail Blazers? - Branbot, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2The Oregon Trail gets the best of us...

- Jeffler, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1RIP, but I feel terrible because I saw Duckworth and I immediately thought of the Mighty Ducks.
- chrisdjohnson, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2That's it...I'm hitting the gym tonight!
- CletusTSJY, on 08/26/2008, -0/+10Anyone remember Duck ordering a hot dog from the Blazers bench during a game? Love Duck. I used to have a poster of him and Buck Williams and Jerome Kersey above my bed. RIP.
- skottles, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Its a sad day. We will miss you Duck.
- rson, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2Quack, quack, quack Mr. Duckworth.
- Vesuvias, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Was thinking the same thing my friend...
- bobbknight, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3What sucks is that he was in town to do good things for the kids. This wasn't one of them times where you hear "for the kids" and you hold on to your wallet. It's a damn shame.
- Chjoma10, on 08/26/2008, -0/+9Best rapper in the Blazer's "Bust a Bucket" song. I'll be thinking about you Duck...every time I drink from my Dairy Queen glass with your animated blazer character on it.....
- ImperialSoren, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1same here, my glasses are all broke by now though.... RIP Kevin
- bpm2000, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1goddamn i forgot about those glasses. thx for the memories Duck!

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-33-225/Kevin ... - TimDigg, on 08/26/2008, -1/+5Blacks in general needs to change their diets...
I'm black and I was just diagnosed with diabetes and I'm only 25. Kinda sucks, but my doctor says that perhaps I can beat it. - strum40, on 08/26/2008, -2/+2“He was in our office about once a week,” said Traci Rose, the long-time Blazer community relations director who began her job in December 1986, the month Duckworth came to the club in a trade from San Antonio. ** “He was so loved up here. His heart far surpassed his size.”--**
http://portlandtribune.com/sports/story.php?story_ ...
I'd say that's a pretty poor choice of words. - MforMike, on 08/26/2008, -3/+2These black people are dying off much quicker than I expected
- musntSurfatWork, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0It's the southern fried chicken I tell ya.
- quomen, on 08/26/2008, -4/+1RIP like goatse.
- Scrappy1850, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1Double zero... bad number, good man.
- everynameisused, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4Its sad that no one outside of oregon knows the genius of Bust-a-Bucket
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5pGfakssHc
Sadly a reunion tour isn't possible RIP 00- jarjarwang, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Why isn't Rip City Rhapsody on youtube??
- JDOG, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1The man was a legend in his own right. Seriously though--pick a better picture of the man to put in a death article.
- ganymede2010, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Very sad, I remember Duckworth being big when he was in his prime, it doesn't surprise me he gained so much weight after his career.
