Is Charles Barkley the Next MC Hammer?
msn.foxsports.com — By literally playing with house money, Charles Barkley managed to rack up a $400,000 bill last October at the Wynn Las Vegas Resort. For Barkley, losing big is nothing new, but this time, he went 7 months without paying it back. Now Steve Wynn wants his money and is looking to collect, but nobody's sure if Barkley has enough money left.

Interesting read though, I hope he comes through. - RuffRidr, on 05/18/2008, -4/+4The round mound will rebound once again.
- chkdg8, on 05/18/2008, -4/+2No way. Charles Barkley is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdk1gwWH-Cg
- Jrr6415sun, on 05/18/2008, -7/+5what a stupid article, 1) he's already paying it back 2) he has a multi million dollar a year job, he is not going broke over 400,000
- Jrr6415sun, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2“My mistake,” Barkley said in an interview at a pro-am golf tournament in Hoover, Ala. “I’m not broke, and I’m going to take care of it.”
“Do I have a gambling problem? Yeah, I do have a gambling problem,” Barkley said. “But I don’t consider it a problem because I can afford to gamble.”

- Reclinatron, on 05/18/2008, -1/+8Would you rather they go break his knees? How are they supposed to get their money back?
- Aooogah, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3But you just haven't had the real Vegas experience until someone breaks your knees over a gambling debt!
- ScottMitchell, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1It's the threat of the broken knees that get the money. Just send a couple of burley guys with tire iron to the TNT studios and Charles would have wired the money ASAP.
- MasterPlayer, on 05/18/2008, -4/+13Let's hope the royalties he collects from Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden is enough to pay off this debt.
- adml_shake, on 05/18/2008, -4/+2They need to dig a bit more, he already paid this. While I don't know if it's true or not he said that he wasn't aware of the money he owed and that they guy collecting never told him he just jumped on the lawsuit wagon and went to town.
- diggit08, on 05/18/2008, -2/+2He should have just doubled up on red.
- nirvanix, on 05/18/2008, -1/+3What a stupid assertion. Media outlets will say anything to get attention.
- JMaj, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Barkley side
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-barkley-g ... - quomen, on 05/18/2008, -2/+4Of course he's going to pay it back. This guy is not poor.
- Cglass, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1He probably makes enough from the D-wade commercials to cover this alone. Not to mention all his sports shows he does, and tons of other money he has had or does have.
- KevinRWright, on 05/18/2008, -1/+17This is so lame, Barkley has plenty of money to pay this off. He really did just forget. He already told the casino that all they had to do was remind him.
Non story. And even if he blew all his money from basketball, it's not like the man isn't working. He is making plenty from endorsements, his broadcasting career and investments. Last time I checked, MC Hammer was an ass clown who let pathetic leaches and lowlifes bleed him dry.- JointVenture, on 05/18/2008, -6/+3So you have access to Barkley's accounts? How the ***** do you know?
- KevinRWright, on 05/18/2008, -2/+1Yes. I'm his accountant.
Now you know, vanillanukka- KevinRWright, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1No, but in all seriousness. If Chuck has been one thing in his life, it's brutally honest. The man tells the truth and says what he thinks all the time regardless of how it looks. If he was broke or in money trouble, he would probably be the first to be cracking jokes on himself.
The fact that he has just brushed this off the way he did with that "Are you serious?" attitude leads me to believe he is telling the truth and forgot.

... it just doesn't have the same ring to it. Buried as inaccurate. - Millsee, on 05/18/2008, -2/+2I think his Bank Manager needs to call him and say
"STOP! Hammer Time!" - TexasShiv, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5*Leans sideways on desk with one elbow up in TNT studio*
That'sssss terrrrubblleeee... I just don't play no defense at the casinos... Turrrrrribllleeeee... T-U-RR-I-B-L-E turrrrrbleeeee - JointVenture, on 05/18/2008, -5/+4Thats what he gets for thinking with the Right side of his brains.
Mr. Wright announced, is "white." Blacks, by contrast, cannot sit still in class or learn from quiet study, and they have difficulty learning from "objects" — books, for example — but instead learn from "subjects," such as rap lyrics on the radio. These differences are neurological, according to Ms. Hale and Mr. Wright: Whites use what Mr. Wright referred to as the "left-wing, logical and analytical" side of their brains, whereas blacks use their "right brain," which is "creative and intuitive."
Rev WRIGHT at the NAACP - p51d007, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Although I could care less about his personal business, there is some truth to some of these so called sports "hero" types. You can have all the money in the world, but if they are not taught financial security,
they will blow it faster than they make it. Same thing happens to lottery winners. How many times have you read stories that someone who 5-6 years ago won millions in a lottery, is flat broke?- ScottMitchell, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1To answer your question, I've read four stories about someone who won the lottery only later to go broke.
Thanks for asking.
Would you believe that you're literally the first person to ask me this question in as long as I can remember?

- usgovterrorists, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1How many media script readers were exposed the same prank as Charles Barkley ?
- molszews, on 05/18/2008, -1/+4"Now Steve Wynn wants his money and is looking to collect"
Call Niko Bellic? - brutalsponge, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0Barkley can't touch this.
- RomanMaroni, on 05/18/2008, -1/+2That's awesome. Whether this story is true or not, it still makes me wonder why I see all these commercials on TV telling me I can feed a starving child for $.30 day, or whenever there is a disaster everyone wants my donations, or United way asking me to help people out .... why are they always asking to working poor for our money, when there are people with millions/billions willing to sit in a casino and blow $400k or more. After 9/11, there were firefighters on every corner making us feel guilty for our donations .. or with hurricane Katrina or standing outside WalMart ... Next time Mr Barkley wants to go to the casino, maybe he should think of something intelligent to do with his money.
- inferno10, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2Sir Barkley's next gig: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk
- JazzClutchkick, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2Heres the thing though. He is adored for some reason by the sporting community not phased out like the hammer
- usingpond, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Barkley: Shut Up and Pay Your Debt
- Attol, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I find the comments more interesting than the article.
- vanguardanon, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Barkley is great on TV. It sucks to lose a lot of money but he's still making it so he'll be fine. He just needs to learn to spend less.

Check out the Mad Tv parody of the commercials, they are hilarious.

search for the previous gambling article - xerodustrial, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1I have a pretty hard time believing Barkley is broke. He almost certainly gets a 7 or 8 figure salary right now. He probably made $50-100 million over his pro career, not including his endorsement deals, which is most likely another 7 or 8 figure sum. He also probably makes a few million a year from all the companies he does commercials for now. He probably makes another few million annually in residuals, dividends, and interest on his investments and balances. If he's even half-intelligent with his money, he probably makes $15-20 million every year right now.
I'd be willing to wager he simply forgot about the debt. $400k to him is pocket change. - hollycowlman, on 05/19/2008, -1/+1BARKLEY IS NO MCHAMMER, If Hammer could have made profits on his Hammer pants maybe he still would be living the high life. Barkley is a bonafide celebrity.
- whalt, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2If this had been some average schmoe he would have been buried face down in the desert by now.
