Elton Brand spurns Clippers, signs with 76ers
sports.espn.go.com — Brand has informed the Sixers that he will accept a five-year deal worth an estimated $82 million and spurn what was presumed to be a slam-dunk return to the Los Angeles Clippers to hook up with Clipper-to-be Baron Davis.

- NewSc2, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3I think Davis cares more about being back at home and near Hollywood than anything else. I mean, seriously, who goes to the Clippers expecting to win?
- slickrick2k1, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1don't forget the years and cash!! bdiddy is happy. he did my warriors right and i wish him nothing but the best.

- kateyall, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Elton Brand and Boom Dizzle would be scary.
- Odenized, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2...but it wasn't meant to be.
- sukmydigg, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6The 76ers are gonna be nice with Brand. Much easier race in the playoffs than if he stayed in the Western Conference.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/09/2008, -0/+20*****!
son of a bitch! we get davis and brand says he'll take a paycut just to make it happen...now this *****? ugh. it's getting to be real hard to be a clippers fan. well, it's always been hard but having that burst of false hope is seriously killing me now that it's fallen through.- sukmydigg, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Damn, I FELT your pain buddy.
- tacofarts, on 07/09/2008, -2/+0lol clipper fans...
- slickrick2k1, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1no such thing
- rhinitus, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Eric Gordon's your man, dude
- laseractive, on 07/09/2008, -0/+21Wow. Elton Brand stabbed them in the back on this one. Guess his word isn't any better than Carlos Boozer's.
- TheGooseyOne, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3So true. But Boozer was even worse as he violated a verbal agreement. With Brand it was all speculation.
- philberttheduck, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2Brand's is much worse. An established leader that was the face of the team reneging on a deal versus not-nearly-as-mature blooming star. Boozer's decision to go for money made sense (going back on his word still isn't) because the difference was great. Brand, who is as classy as any other NBA player, signing for only 2 million more than the Clippers' offer? That's a damn shame. As much as I dislike Boozer for his lack of integrity, Brand's drop is insurmountable. And I'm no clipper fan.
- Crackerpat, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9Larry Hughes did this to the Wizards so he could go to the Cavaliers! Carlos Boozer's Did it to the Cavilers. Kobe Spurned the Clippers' multi-million, multi- year deal to stay with the Lakers. No matter what, The Clippers always seem to get hosed just when they seem to get better.
- pgrit154, on 07/09/2008, -3/+3I ***** hate Elton Brand.
- matyrice08, on 07/09/2008, -0/+12How pissed should Baron Davis be right about now? Since Maggette is leaving too
- iCoty, on 07/09/2008, -1/+13Douchebag. Cause he reaaaaaally needed a few extra millions. Douchebag.
- livestradamus, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1You can never, ever, have enough money.....
- jankind, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2Douchebag. Because you don't know what the ***** you're talking about. Douchebag.
How much were Warriors throwing at him? Is 90 "millions" more than 80 "millions"?
He wants to play in the East. It happens every year and it isn't always about money.- iCoty, on 07/09/2008, -2/+1Yeah, its about luring Baron Davis to the Clipper's saying you'll accept less money to stay a Clipper and than leaving for Philly cause they flashed more bills in your face. DouchebagX2 for screwing with BD and then leaving for more money.
- dion3537, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Douchebag x3.
He declined 90 mil from Golden State to accept 82 mil from the 76ers. If it was about leaving for the money wouldn't he have gone to GS? He went to Philly because it's in the East, he likes the team more, and he's from the East coast...
- birdly, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6I believe Nelson said it best, when he quipped, "HA HA".
- dpeasant, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Nelson (from the Simpsons), or Don Nelson (Coach of the Warriors)?
Because frankly, I can see this happening from either individual saying it.- slickrick2k1, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1nah, warriors Nellie is all about the benjamins. elton's gotta eat
- dpeasant, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Nelson (from the Simpsons), or Don Nelson (Coach of the Warriors)?
- blueandgreen24, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Whats sad is this actually gives the 76ers a shot at going deep into the playoffs since the Eastern Conference is so *****
- alexk747, on 07/09/2008, -3/+1yeeaaaa go sixers, we are gonna be pretty damn good this yr. Loius wililams, andre iguodala, thaddeus young, elton brand, samuel dalembert. and brand always said that he wanted to go east and philly was the only team from the east offering
- theCreator79, on 07/09/2008, -3/+1E$ton Bran$ is a piece of ******!!! He acts like he's a team-player and then he ditches them and LA like that! I can't wait for the first Clippers game vs the 76ers... I'll be there front row cursing at he son of a bit$h all night along with 20k other Clippers faithful! Elton Brand is a hoe that just got sold to the highest bidder! Now get on your knees Brand!
- waitingforjune, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I think that k you put in front of 20k was a typo...
- TecK415, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4HAHA, Yes! As a Warriors fan I am happy Brand left. Even though golden state didn't get him.. BD will be on a ***** team. That lying sack of !@#@.
- slickrick2k1, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1as a warriors fan, you're an idiot. he gave us the gsw first taste of success in a decade, played his heart out for us, and in the end, had different plans regarding the future. don't hate.
- lincolnhoho, on 07/09/2008, -5/+0wow..this actually made front page?
- Gatchaman, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2He hasn't actually signed yet. The Clips can still offer a better deal.
- haterrade, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3I know it is easy to say ***** Elton Brand and all that, but how many owners and teams over the years have probably screwed over a player, promising a bigger contract or cutting a player who got injured and ruined his career..I wish we could hear about a few of those once in a while
It's the clippers, come on now..he's getting more money and a better chance to win in a weaker conference, it's just hard to pass that up - healthyapples, on 07/09/2008, -2/+0a deal like this really wont matter when the world comes to an end next year anyway
- Big2hd, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2good for Brand, he's been loyal to the Clips far too long and they only seem to get worse while all the western teams get better. He got the money and on a eastern conference that is not that bad.
But if it's true about all that verbal agreement stuff with B Diddy, then i have lost a little respect for him. - lopcheung, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2Boozer and Brand were both a Dukie. So its not very surprising. Also the clippers were suspected of foul play from the signing of Baron Davis. With Brand signing w/ the Sixers, it looks less suspicious now and they're now off the hook. Props to Elgin Baylor for recognizing this and reacting quickly. What a great GM.
- Nowaiman, on 07/09/2008, -3/+1awww, thought the title said Elton John sperms Clippers
- pamon, on 07/09/2008, -2/+5From all the Clipper Fans to Elton Brand: ***** YOU....
Go to Philly, forget the team that built you into a superstar, and forget the team that signed Barron Davis to help your injured ass..
May you get injured and Philly and end your career there... You Duke MF'er...
Signed... A Pissed Clipper Nation
p.s. This goes for you too Maguette...- jalaram, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Elton Brand was already a superstar when he joined the Clippers and helped make them respectable.
Although I'm a Sixers fan and am thrilled that we're getting him, I have to agree that he screwed Clippers management and the fans. As one ESPN article stated, that makes him a normal NBA player. - lukehz, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0Clippers suck major ones.
- jalaram, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Elton Brand was already a superstar when he joined the Clippers and helped make them respectable.
- aguywithnobeer, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6As warrior fan, I'm smiling inside, although 50 mill for maggette is preventing me from laughing.
- panacean, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Well, let's hope that 50 million will help the Warriors actually do something.
But now they have no leader. :|
- panacean, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Well, let's hope that 50 million will help the Warriors actually do something.
- Khanvalescent, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Clippers may be able to pick someone else up in the free agency market, they should have a lot of cap room. Dare I even bring up Lebron in 2010?
- Schreck1, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2I knew Brand wouldn't sign with them...he wants money, not BD.
- smacksaw, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4I'm a Clippers fan and I don't care. In fact, as a Clippers fan you must always expect 1 step forward, 2 steps back. It's what makes following the team interesting.
Brand can leave. DTS is a slimeball owner and Baylor is borderline retarded. They deserve it. Brand was a colossal waste of money. Now you know why Chicago let him go for nothing. He's a dildo. Always has been, always will be. Sixers fans are going to eat him up. Moron should have had Barkley in his Fave Five on his phone and asked him about Philly fan. - jankind, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3The Clippers apparently tried to match this offer of 5 and 80 and it is no secret that the Warriors offered him 90 Million.
He wanted to come east. It's as simple as that. Stop comparing him to Carlos Boozer. Just because Baron Davis assumed he would stay doesn't mean *****. Get over it "B Diddy" and go jack up some more bad shots. - mcfly1204, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Baron Davis went to the Clips for the money, nothing more.
- Odenized, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1And a homecoming....but that's of minor importance...you're right.
- awesomeric, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0haha here is to the clippers still being the clippers
- theCreator79, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0Actually their attendance was an average of 16,888 last year, you should check your facts before you make your comments...
And, I think you have a typo, there is no k in front of 20k, I think you meant, k you put behind 20. Retard - jankind, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1I'm going to share something from the press conference they had to introduce Elton Brand to the media and the city today at 5:00.
They discussed, again, the max offer of 90 million from Golden State and he mentioned that they coined a new term called "The Philly Max" and the Sixers offered him every penny they had to offer where other teams did not. There was no plan with Baron Davis. The Clippers gave him an "ultimatum" and the Warriors offered way more money. He wanted to come east.
In review... HE DID NOT TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN. And besides, we Sixer fans saw this coming the day they traded Korver and started freeing up cap space. Cavs fans, take note. - funknjunk, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1The Sixers offered him $82 mil but it was reported that the Clips offered him $80 mil. Clearly it was more than money because the Clips came very close to matching the offer.
