- taylorhayward, on 07/01/2009, -0/+7This one one of the best moments of my childhood. Seeing a team come together like this is the stuff of legend.
- mizatt, on 07/01/2009, -1/+4Uhh... cute rhetoric, but I disagree? The Dream Team made basketball a serious sport for countries around the world and brought all kinds of international talent to the NBA. And it's not like we heaped millions of dollars upon these professionals to get them over there. The players that opt to go to these games give up a part of their offseason vacation for something that, financially speaking, is of little or no benefit to them. If it wasn't for the Dream Team, international basketball would still be miles behind the US and would struggle even locally because of it.
- iDoraemon, on 07/01/2009, -1/+4"The Olympics were originally about amateurs, people who hadn't had the chance to make the pros yet."
Wrong. The Olympics has always been about countries sending their best athletes to compete against each other to vie for the gold. - juzz101, on 07/01/2009, -1/+4The best basketball team that has ever and will ever grace the hardwood. There will only ever be one dream team!
- ironpirate, on 07/01/2009, -1/+3It was awesome watching them win by 50 every game.
- IgorUnchained, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Scottie Pippen:

Scottie also was a member of the Dream Team and won 2 Gold Medals at the Olympics.
Now he is a member of the US Olympic Hall of Fame! - juzz101, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1And make sure Isiah Thomas sees you do it!
- cosmos411, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1sorry, you're wrong. Try Googling before you jump in and talk about things you don't understand. The Olympics used to be about sending your best _amateur_ athletes. This whole thing about professionals being allowed is garbage. We get to watch those athletes anytime (i.e. whenever they have an event going on). What I enjoy is watching some no-name kick ass and make a name for themself. That's the true spirit of the Olympics, not grandstanding some existing professional athlete.
- dafragsta, on 07/01/2009, -1/+2Aah, but they weren't the dream team until they won the gold. Everyone knew even before the basketball team took the floor that they were the most talented team in sheer lopsided talent that had probably ever been assembled in any sport. Three of those guys were among the best to ever play the game, and the rest of them weren't slouches either. My point is that people were referring to them as the "dream team" long before the games and that term usually means a team of ringers, not a team of underdogs.
- ganymede2010, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1It was truly laughable watching this team play. They were running at half speed, not really passing, not going all out on D, and still eviscerated everyone they played.
- mwrl, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1The US was the only country at the time that wasn't using Pros in basketball. Several NBA players were already playing for other teams or were planning to when the Dream Team was formed.
- dafragsta, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Uuuh, that's EXACTLY what I said. The basketball team was one of the most dominating teams ever assembled in any sport. They were called the "Dream Team" before the Olympics even started.
- Kaiosama, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1Which sport do you watch that isn't a business?
- Platypus3333, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1The US sent quite a squad to the Olympics in 2008, dude...
- Kaiosama, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1What about Patrick Ewing? No New York love?
- ApolloXLII, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1it's too bad they don't have Dream Teams anymore. the players these days don't represent their country because they think there is little to no incentive (money) in it for them. one of the reasons why i stopped following the NBA. it's become more of a business than a sport.
- Tejbir32, on 07/04/2009, -0/+0I wish I could see the Dream Team vs Redeem Team, the court would explode!
- JCEEZ, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1Patrick Ewing = *****-erectus

seriously, he looks like the missing link. - Drahkir, on 07/01/2009, -1/+1I wouldn't mind driving hot women.
- Zarchon, on 07/02/2009, -1/+1So Dream Team equates to underdogs? Here I thought it meant to put a team on the floor you could only dream about. My bad.
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -4/+2Yeah, basketball, that's a fun sport to watch isn't it...
- borez, on 07/01/2009, -5/+3Good, I like Old School Hip Hop.
- EatingPie, on 07/01/2009, -10/+5The Dream Team introduced professional players into the Olympics with a bang. They kicked ass, they won the gold, and ruined everything.
The Olympics were originally about amateurs, people who hadn't had the chance to make the pros yet. Probably the greatest opportunity of their lives, to represent their country, and do their best. There was heart, there was human achievement. It was awesome to watch.
But The Dream Team came along, stomped their opponents, and showed the Olympics weren't about the game, the challenge, or the heart. Just winning the gold. And winning it at all costs.
Don't believe me? I give you the US Hockey Team. There have been movies, documentaries, celebrations about the US Hockey Team's dual defeats of the "superior" Russians. These were two of the greatest moments in Olympic history. Why? Because they weren't pros, they didn't have fancy cars, hot women, money, fame. They were raw spirit. And they rose to the occassion with that spirit shining. That's the real American dream.
*They* were the real Dream Team.
