- RobertShellson, on 09/08/2008, -1/+15RIP. A true visionary and, by all accounts, a wonderful man. If anyone would like to know more about him, watch the movie Glory Road.
- kellfinder, on 09/08/2008, -1/+13A true great in the world of sports. Sad news indeed.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+11Glory Road is a great flick
- arial, on 09/09/2008, -1/+8I grew up in El Paso, TX and he was a legend. He will be missed. Go Miners!
- lukis100, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5RIP from all the miners (utep graduates).
- MforMike, on 09/09/2008, -1/+6This is a big loss for sports and the human race. A great man. RIP.
- agjimenez, on 09/09/2008, -0/+5Man, and all that depressing rain last night, too. The whole city was mourning. RIP El Oso.

- macballer30, on 09/09/2008, -1/+5I wrote a senior seminar paper about the 1966 Texas Western team. I spoke to a few of the players and did tons of research. It was really an amazing story and this is a sad day for sports. Don Haskins was a revolutionary for college sports and more.

- macballer30, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3It was a good movie, but it was sort of dumbed down and made things out to be a bit more rosy then they actually were. Things were way harder for Don Haskins, his players and Texas Western then the movie made it seem.
Nonetheless, a good movie. - tahcoboy, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2RIP "The Bear". Damn glad to be a UTEP Miner and to of met him in person.
- KiDMAJORA, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2El Paso resident here. This morning there was a MASSIVE multi page tribute to him on every El Paso Times newspaper. I never personally met him, but he was an amazing person, and the impact he had here was definitely something amazing. Local family's keeping things pretty private which is good, and he will be missed.
- steve9924, on 09/08/2008, -1/+3well said, it's an awesome movie.
- ControlcChris, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3RIP
- EtherGnat, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2" I was in sports for 18 months and made no money because of my coach."
Isn't it time to forgive your little league coach? - Parkerman1700, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3He accomplished more than hardly any coach, ever.
- abajaj2280, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3RIP
It's going to be a while before anyone can match up to him. - lukemorris, on 09/09/2008, -1/+3What made his work even greater was the fact that he started it in the South where the tensions were insane.
- deelux247, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Even though he was in poor health this past year, he still made the effort to sign autographs for fans. And it was always a thrill to see The Bear at basketball games in the Don Haskins Center, sitting in his chair near the tunnel. He'll be missed greatly.
- ramtanion, on 09/09/2008, -2/+3this is very sad
- EtherGnat, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Speaking from somebody who lives just up the road in Las Cruces, NM he's right. Every now and then people even talk like New Mexico should annex El Paso because it doesn't really fit in with the rest of Texas.
Of course, I can't speak to how things were 40 years ago, and I should also point out (with all due respect) that the Hispanic population is just as capable of racism and discrimination as anybody else. - EtherGnat, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1I can't stand the Miners, but even I can't help but be amazed by the character of Don Haskins, what he did for the sport of basketball, and the civil rights movement. Once (and only once) this Aggie will take his hat off for a Miner.
- eurynome420, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1The Bear was a great man! He brought out the best in my city and I'm damn proud to say that I am an El Pasoan and a Miner because of him! RIP Coach Haskins
- sciontclady, on 09/10/2008, -0/+0Very Sad=-( He Will Be Truly Missed! RIP The Bear
- fliesen, on 01/15/2009, -0/+0this man was really great RIP

We will know more likely than not before the week is out whether or not the court will hear this case. The justices now find themselves in a most unenviable position. - KiDMAJORA, on 09/10/2008, -0/+0Did not know, good call.
- archer104, on 09/09/2008, -2/+2El Paso's not really "the South" it's more like New Mexico.
- KiDMAJORA, on 09/09/2008, -1/+0Yup. El Paso really has nothing to do with the rest of Texas. Thank God...
- OJDidIt, on 09/09/2008, -2/+0you're an idiot. seriously.
- inactive, on 09/09/2008, -6/+0More like Hall of Lame. Coaches can't be in the Hall of Fame since they don't do anything but rake in money for other people's talent. I was in sports for 18 months and made no money because of my coach.
- ernmerica, on 09/09/2008, -6/+0Who cares? Wheres the news about Palin? :)
- ligyron, on 09/09/2008, -10/+1Glory Road was terrible
