""Dikembe walked into a Georgetown bar one night [in the early '90s], the entire place stopped to look at him, and in response, Mutombo just yelled out, "WHO WANTS TO SEX MUTOMBO?!" " - DireWolf11, on 04/22/2009, -2/+49bummer man, dikembe is a true gentleman of the game,
even though bush is an idiot, he did well to single out dikembe a few years back at the state of the union, dikembe is a great human being,
also, "Who Wants to Sex Mutombo?" - spiritflare1, on 04/23/2009, -0/+43this dude from the democratic republic of congo (fomerly zaire) went back to a third world, corrupt country ruled for so many years by a tyrant dictator (Mobutu) and did something no gov't, foreign donor, or even his own nation had been able to do - build a decent hospital to treat his people.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dikembe_Mutombo - thegamingguy, on 04/22/2009, -0/+43I have always loved watching Mt. Mutombo play and have heard nothing but great things about him as a person. My guess is that this being his first injury and at such a late point in his career it scared him to the point of giving up on it before getting it checked out.
- Mattman9876, on 04/22/2009, -0/+37a great player and even better person
- Gr00ver, on 04/22/2009, -1/+34Also.. Dikembe's organization: http://www.dmf.org/
- hawkdude56, on 04/23/2009, -0/+28Great player and a great person. Who else in the NBA can say they built a hospital in their home country with the wealth they accumulated?
We will all miss the finger wag. - carbbomb, on 04/23/2009, -0/+24*wags finger*
- suburbanWMD, on 04/23/2009, -0/+18Prolly the best human being who ever played professional basketball.
I hope that even in retirement, millions of people will still want to sex Mutumbo. - vl002001, on 04/23/2009, -0/+17first ballot hall of famer
4 time DPOY
phenomenal human being
coolest name
coolest voice
coolest trash talk move
not bad for a 63 year old - IHaveCrayons, on 04/23/2009, -0/+17Mutombo is a great person and great player, I loved having him on the Rockets. Talk about a career... the man was blocking shots at 42 years old! Outside of the NBA, he has setup the Dikembe Mutombo foundation which will open the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in the Congo. He's just a great person with a fiery personality that really energizes the team, I would even compare him to KG. 3289 blocks.
Would like to add this AWESOME video of Mutombo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POkyWhh3Ihw&fea ... - dearsomeone, on 04/23/2009, -3/+19poor cookie monster.
- mga911, on 04/23/2009, -0/+13That's a good video of Motumbo but I like this video of the Rocket's impersonating Motumbo better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDKQhCgLqxU
- Sangreal2007, on 04/23/2009, -0/+12Full name:
Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo
WOW - inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+10That stinks. Mutombo is a class act. Even when he used to wag his finger after he swatted someone's shot into the stands.
- drumboy206, on 04/23/2009, -1/+11Don't forget his first memorable moment:

"Hey Mutombo...welcome to the NBA." - JohnILM, on 04/23/2009, -0/+10Sucks that he might not to go out on his own terms .... the guy just loves playing basketball. It still can't take away from a great career and him being a stand up guy overall.
- NoLibertarians, on 04/23/2009, -2/+11Knees and ankles were not made to take the constant pounding of a sport like basketball. I had a similar incident, but not this bad. He was a class act!
- eramos, on 04/23/2009, -0/+9You're a 0/10
- yoder141, on 04/23/2009, -1/+9What a great career, shame it had to end this way. He probably could have been the first NBA player to reach 50 (years that is)
- thephosphorbox, on 04/23/2009, -0/+8Speedy recovery Mr. Mutumbo.. not only are you a great sportsman, you're an inspiration to us all.
- reed311, on 04/23/2009, -0/+8What a shame. The man is a true gentleman.
- JesusFaction, on 04/23/2009, -1/+8and then what happened?
- handler, on 04/23/2009, -0/+6Damn I hate to see this.
- Rain12913, on 04/23/2009, -1/+6Speak English you do? Website this tell us about ratemylooks.org?
- Coercion, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5and hospitals
- kjones555, on 04/23/2009, -1/+6Dude'll still whoop your ass on the court...with his bad knee!
- Coercion, on 04/23/2009, -0/+5you mean like building schools in his home country?
oh wait.. - probablyjason, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4he was also 42...
sucks though. he was a hell of a player to have on your bench. - mushtakrakish, on 04/23/2009, -1/+5why did you have to say all of the good stuff? ESPECIALLY the last one!
- deealf, on 04/23/2009, -0/+4this sucks. Mutombo reminds me of the days when Jordan was in the NBA. he was part of the elite in my books, and will continue to be even though he will not be playing anymore.
- ChiKoo, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3I don't know which name is better. Dikembe Mutombo or Mookie Blaylock. Thoughts?
- ngb5012, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3His real name is even better. Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dikembe_Mutombo
- johndatserakis, on 04/23/2009, -1/+4funniest thing I've read today
- sipsyrup, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3Does anyone know what actually happened to his knee? It looked like his kneecap was dislocated or something.
- brownsound00, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3This sucks man... Mutumbo was awesome. He opened a lot of doors for fellow Africans hoping to get into the NBA! HoF for this guy (I hope!)
- polygons, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3Hope he has a full recovery. Mutumbo was not only a great player but an amazing human being. At 42 years and still being able to play like he does is nothing short of incredible.
- suburbanWMD, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3When you're 42 years old, pretty much anything can end your professional basketball career.
- mrogi, on 04/23/2009, -0/+3The Cookie Monster has left the building
- sdrawkcabton88, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Here's a video of the injury: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-MkHu7TEjw
Didn't even look that bad - Scottypants, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3I'm pretty sure that Mutombo is the greatest human being on the planet.
I was nearly to tears last night seeing him go out like he did.
You'll be missed. - Warpath83, on 05/01/2009, -0/+2Im just amazed he was still playing ball
- jankind, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2It would be great if he got a job as a color analyst for games on TNT. Who wouldn't love to hear that?
- RAEP, on 04/23/2009, -1/+3Portland fans, no matter how classless they seem to be sometimes (I am one myself and see some pretty rude behavior at the games), still gave Mutumbo a standing ovation as he was carted off. Amazing man, good run in the NBA, good luck to him in the rest of his life.
- pyngthyngs, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2<< Assumes Dikembo Diggs.. All the best to you Mutombo. I've been a fan of yours for years!!
Don't feel bad about retiring. Take a back seat like Ewing has and lead the next generation. Speaking of.. PLEASE come to Portland and coach Greg Oden. He NEEDS help. - Coercion, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1great player, even better man
Go Rockets! - xIAMGAMBITx, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1NOOOOO! Dikembe! NOOOOOOOO!
Damn this sucks. Dikembe was such a joy to watch for the longest time, it's sad to see him go out on an injury. One of the best defensive players ever. - threemagic, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1you are still a WARRIOR, Mutumbo...
- SreyaNotfilc, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1What a way to go. Very fine career sir. *wags finger and sobs*
- inactive, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1What a great guy, for the league and for all he has done. You will be missed.
