Childress' Move to Greece Hurts Hawks on Many Levels
sports.espn.go.com — After the Hawks came back to beat the Lakers in a game in February, one of the team's myriad owners sidled up to a reporter, beaming, and said, "We have arrived." It appears it was a brief stay. The departure of Josh Childress to Greek squad Olympiacos Piraeus is a crushing blow to the Hawks franchise in many ways.

- jchemtob, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1if the euro continues to rape the dollar this might be an increasing trend
- F1REFOX, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1This isn't really Josh Childress moving to Greece. It's Josh Childress playing in Greece for one or two years in order to get paid what he's worth. This was a terrible off-season for free agents because most NBA teams don't have substantial cap room. He wasn't able to get a new deal with the Hawks because they didn't want to pay luxury tax. So he's going to Greece on a 4 year deal...
But not exactly. He has the option to opt out of the contract after every year. He'll play in Greece this year, make his $5 million, and then opt out if he thinks he can be successful as a UFA in the NBA.
