- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -2/+15What the hell does it have to do with Carmelo Anthony?
- alphabetagaga, on 08/06/2008, -2/+14This team doesn't inspire me the same way the original Dream Team did. Then again, when the Dream Team was around, I was about 3 and could hardly understand what was going on besides men running around and bouncing an orange ball I wanted to play with.
- OhROFL, on 08/06/2008, -1/+12Kobe and Lebron might have just a little more to do with bringing home the Gold than Carmelo...
- ljin, on 08/06/2008, -1/+11play some D plz, melo
- busybrain, on 08/06/2008, -1/+9So long as Melo is on the bench, then they have a great shot.
- pleeker, on 08/06/2008, -1/+8Can they? Of course they can. But we've been saying that for a few years now. Whether it happens may be a whole different story.
- humperdeath, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5Second = Fail
- Fleagleman, on 08/06/2008, -1/+6Sure, as long as they don't depend on Carmelo Anthony.
- MensFitness, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4They had some trouble against Australia.
- ostracize, on 08/06/2008, -1/+4Welcome to digg, this is how you reply
- acid0426, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3I don't think they will lose this time. The mindset of the team is different, thanks to the efforts of Colangelo, Coach K, and Nate MacMillan. The team is built to be the most effective from top to bottom, and will most likely win. If they lose, it won't be because the other team won, it'll be because USA lost.
- whatknight, on 08/06/2008, -1/+4there's quite a bit of ego. they could fall apart.
- IzMan2008, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3If they don't = failure. Would rather have college players go, but all the good ones enter the NBA to early, plus then Kobe, Garnett and James would never have gone. Oh well, just bring home the gold!
- bicyclethief, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3Once they face a team with good offensive execution, like Spain, they won't be able to get the turnovers that lead to fast break points they depend on to pull away and blow out most teams. If you've watched Team USA play so far, their half court offense hasn't been all too impressive. The good teams will pack the middle and force Team USA to shoot from the outside, which just isn't their strength.
I'm rooting for Team USA, but I think they'll fall short again. - inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3so you're saying the basketball team should enter other events?
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+3Better yet, play with some heart this time. Nobody likes a quitter.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -2/+5oh come on salam, show a little faith
- cobophers, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Yeah, they'll need to play better than they did against Australia to win gold. Here is an idea. Defense. I know its a rare gem in the world of professional basketball today but I've been told it works.
- redscofield, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Who are these people you speak of? What planet are they from?
- AlexWills, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3Yeah, you're doing a much bigger part by sitting on the couch and changing the channel from the Olympics to Futurama re-runs than the athletes that actually have the audacity to represent their country in China! How dare them and the people that want to take part in this.
- kidtwist, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2I liked the Olympics more when professional athletes weren't involved. For pros these are just glorified exhibition games.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -0/+2Could you imagine the outrage there would be if there was a site called 'whitesportsonline.com'?
... same with WET (as opposed to BET).
Seriously. Sports are sports and 'Entertainment' is entertainment, why do we have to segregate? - PinkTacoDigger, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1Chalk one up to the medal count. It's not like this is the men's soccer team where they are overwhelming underdogs. This team has played, prepared and is stack full of our best players. It'll put the world in check when it comes to basketball. The only way we lose is if some team just starts throwing up 3's and makes a ridiculous percentage of them.
- ence117, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1If you were more informed (read some of the articles, watch the Road to Redemption special on ESPN), you wouldn't say that. To me it looks like they are melding pretty well. When you have a player like Dwayne Wade adjusting to his role as a non-first-option player, ego isn't really what comes to mind.
- StriderNemesis, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1The problem with the recent iterations of Team USA is that they're full of clankers, and the rest of the world has become aware of that. The strategy is simple: don't let them get on the paint, and that's it. A bunch of sharp shooters would fix that, but there aren't many American ones in the NBA; the best ones are "imported".
- mediaspree, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2They almost lost to Australia.
- terrenceisdaman, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1No
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1 I think the winner of the Final 4 should go to the Olympics. They'd have a good shot at taking gold.
- Tostito, on 08/06/2008, -2/+2Hey, they have a good chance if they can keep their minds off those Hong Kong hookers..
http://blacksportsonline.com/index/2008/08/rlhongk ... - ChuyMX, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0the person who posted this must be a nuggets fan because anthony is the last person you would expect to carry the U.S. national team, if anyone i think dwayne wade is one of the bigger impact players as far as overall ability to help the U.S. up its chances for gold
- tomazws, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1I would digg it if you have an article of interviewing Kobe or Labron or something...
- RichardSwingman, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0Artest can try out on the boxing team
- smithfly114, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1I am boycotting because the Olympic committee has no balls.
-reporters are jailed
-internet is filtered
-part of the reason China got the games was because they told the Olympic committee what they wanted to hear and then decided to do whatever they wanted. - ZeeZee2k, on 08/06/2008, -0/+0It's so unfair that the entire basketball team can only win one gold on medal count, but Michael Phelps can win 8 himself.
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1This isn't a dream team. It's a well practiced team of superstars and regular players. The original dream team was ridiculously awesome and will probably never be that way again.
It's nice to think we can win gold again but it just doesn't have the same awesomeness to it as it has in years past. I am more excited for the team with zo and shaq playing a few years back than this one. - crashbang, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1I think its that sense of entitlement to the gold that we Americans seem to have that makes the Olympics less than fun sometimes. I was in Canada the last Olympics and they were whooping up when they won any medal.
That being said were gonna get our asses handed to us by teams that play basketball and not streetball. Not thier is anything wrong with streetball, it's exciting as hell, but it doesn't win international competition - somethinspecial, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1Yes They Can.
- gameoverx00, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0Hey guys. For more information on the Beijing Olympics and just sports in general, check out my blog: http://talkaboutsport.blogspot.com
- inactive, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1much of a basketball game is decided by officiating, and the officiating involves a lot of close calls that could go either way. even though they're still the best team by a wide margin, they aren't the team the international community is rooting for anymore. watch out for them getting hosed by the officials if they end up playing a close game.
- elfuego, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1It's possible. Likely, even. But far from a certainty. And if the players decide to let their egos get in the way, playing as individuals and not as a team, they most assuredly will get their asses kicked. International play is different than NBA, and if the players think they can play their style with no adjustments... well, don't get your hopes up.
- redscofield, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1Top 20?... that's debatable...
- santiago23, on 08/09/2008, -0/+0Yes this year it is highly feasible that they can bring home the Gold. They looked relatively solid during the exhibition match and I hope they succeed during the actual Olympics - the match against China will be important...make sure you watch it. Check out my blog :)
- inefekt, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Why do people keep mentioning Argentina? Yeah they won gold last time but they're really struggling right now, Australia were leading them by 19 in the third when they played each other a few days ago, they should of lost but got lucky with a red hot Scola and an injured Bogut for the Aussies. They have no chance of beating the US whose only real threat is Spain.
- Stevethegreat, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Like the packed arenas in Europe, or the Chinese? Basketball is easily the second most popular team sport in the world.
BTW European game tactics are already superior to the America's, that's why a team of mediocre Europeans may beat a team of far superior American athletes. In Europe the games are about putting the ball in the basket while preventing the other team do the same, in America it seems -lately- to be all about acts of fitness, American basketball is more reminiscent to field & track nowadays than the 80s NBA - lucas20, on 12/16/2008, -0/+0Go Carmelo!! Denver is the TEAM http://www.denvertidbits.com
- robmclay, on 08/06/2008, -1/+1With Australia's best player on the bench no less...
