- clutch88, on 08/19/2008, -1/+34Esteem team? Sounds like the lame group that would have assemblies in your high school telling you not to do drugs.
- WalkerTXclocker, on 08/19/2008, -0/+13Wow. Everybody is always saying how bad the American attitude is; arrogant, self righteous, etc.
So they try to do something good and you're still not happy. Granted the Esteem Team is definitely a horrible name but I think what they are trying to do is a good thing.
Can't win for losing with you guys. - doublefelix, on 08/19/2008, -1/+9Single Page:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-olyheisler18-2 ... - lupka, on 08/19/2008, -0/+8They've only lost 4 times, but they should win every year with the amount of talent that's on their teams. This team has a much better attitude than the one that lost in 2004.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7It's not mandatory you *****.
- gianttoolbox11, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6LOL @ the idea of calling these guys 'The Cream Team.'
- CobaltBlue, on 08/19/2008, -0/+5I can't believe you care so much about the way the medal counts are listed by the US media. I can say that I don't give 2 ***** how Australia orders the medal counts.
- viveknarain, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3So your telling me the Olympics also consists of something other than Phelps? Impossible!
- davidsetagaya, on 08/19/2008, -2/+5How dare you say that about Coach K!
- sryan8913, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3Lebron James represents himself as a pretty respectable young man imo
- Pyros7, on 08/19/2008, -2/+5IMO this is one of the things that has been dragging down the NBA in recent years. On top of being some of the best players in the world, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were all good sportsmen. I was a Bulls fan back in the day, and I can still remember images of Jordan showing up to the games in a suit and tie, does anyone still do that??
They weren't always angels on the court by any means, but they held a certain amount of respect for their teammates and opponents...and in turn it's one of the reasons they were so well respected themselves.
The punk kids in the NBA these days could learn more than just how to play ball from the original dream team. - NomortaL1, on 08/19/2008, -0/+3you mean sports illustrated. a magazine != the entire us media.
- acid0426, on 08/19/2008, -2/+5Yes, every player is required to adhere to the NBA dress code of a suit if they are present at the game.

- lupka, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2haha
- boombye, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2I check for both Most Medals and Most Golds. So I really could care less what other countries are doing, since I know how to check myself.
- lupka, on 08/19/2008, -1/+3All the US media is showing it that way, he was just using SI as an example.

Is that enough? Or do you need more? - clutch88, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2I agree that the name is horrible and I also agree that there doing a great thing. Watching the games I see a team having alot of fun and playing their hearts out. And at the end of the day thats all that really matters (other than, you know, winning).
- doublefelix, on 08/19/2008, -1/+3They missed out on some good potential product tie-ins:
McDream Team? - oveedrx, on 08/19/2008, -0/+2Now intruducing the daydream downstream team
- wonderbriefs, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1True, Lebron James is doing an alright job now-a-days. But back in the day I was a big fan of guys like Alonzo Mourning, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Scotty Pippen; these were guys that knew how to play with respect. To put things into perspective, Charles Barkley was considered a risky trash-talker.

- ElAmo, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Nah, lets stick with redeem. After America's bragging and loss, they really do need to redeem themselves.
- NomortaL1, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1can you give me some more examples?

- Bill Hicks - lucy22, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1I like Americans. Good for them!
- NomortaL1, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1no, thanks! +1 to u
- acid0426, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Which NBA players deal drugs? And as for the rape comment, Kobe's accuser is probably best friends with the Duke Lax accuser.
- wonderbriefs, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1I'd love to see some humility on the part of our team, but let's face it; this is the American basketball team. Like you put it, "they still believe and act like they're the show everyone's come to see. - which they are" and all that means to our team is that they are still top-dog and don't have to answer to anyone.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see these guys graciously accept a trophy as if they owed it to God or something. But you know that if they get a Gold they'll simply act like they deserved it and didn't even try to get it. That kind of arrogance is bred into our great basketball players. I'm not trying to defend them. I'm just saying that you can expect it until we get another great like Michael Jordan. And that's not happening any time soon because he was a MFing alien. - CoolHandLuke, on 08/19/2008, -1/+2As an American I can say that I haven't been happy with my fellow CITIZENS and the things they have been doing for years (always being down on everything my country stands for and does). Actually, disgusted and ashamed are better words. I'm not huge into sports or anything but it makes me damn proud that there is something I can be proud of for a little while even if it is just a bunch of games and pushing forward freedom and democracy in the World.
- Merp08, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Well said.
- jeffmon, on 08/19/2008, -2/+3Idiot.
- Merp08, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1As an American I can say that I haven't been happy with my government and the things we have been doing for years. Actually, disgusted and ashamed are better words. I'm not huge into sports or anything but it makes me damn proud that there is something I can be proud of for a little while even if it is just a bunch of games.
- RMoore08, on 08/19/2008, -1/+1Yea... those groups never did me any good.
- loopyloopy, on 08/19/2008, -1/+1from an outsider, if the US basketball team think the rest of the world perceive them as any less arrogant than past years they're kidding themselves. i've seen enough games and read enough player quotes to realize they're just as arrogant as ever.
not that i have a problem with that personally, just dont kid yourselves about it.
they still believe and act like they're the show everyone's come to see. - which they are, but they play up to it and for all the other countries competing in the tournament, that's just arrogant. - brendanbond, on 08/19/2008, -0/+0No.
- CoolHandLuke, on 08/19/2008, -2/+1Medal count by type.
http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/medals - sgtbutterscotch, on 08/19/2008, -4/+3It's about honor. You're not the best team in the world unless you don't own in the Olympics. And yeah, they are trying to redeem their 04 and it is a big ***** deal. It doesn't matter how many times they lost, it only matters that they actually go out and prove they are the best team in the world. Seeing as how they did lost in 04 means a lot. You don't factor in their wins from long ago and use those to say they're the best team in the world. You got to use the most recent results.
- midgetdiablo, on 08/19/2008, -2/+1 The name, Esteem Team, might be lame, but the message is accurate. the U.S.'s reputation and credibility has gone way down. The people in the U.S. can call themselves the best nation in the world, but no one's going to back you up.
The Dream Team shows us that the U.S. still leads in something, but has flushed everything else down the drain. The country is no longer a dream, it's a disaster that needs a little motivation. It shows that although the U.S. is in the wreck that it is, there is still hope. Isn't that the whole point in voting for Obama? - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -3/+2Off the court they can deal drugs and rape. But damn, if they are on the court, they better look nice...
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -8/+3Nice...the Esteem Team being led by an unconvicted rapist...
- dha07030, on 08/19/2008, -8/+2I had to check to see if I was in the popular tab.
- HotSaucePanCake, on 08/19/2008, -8/+2We are running out of IPv4 addresses.
- DickyT83, on 08/19/2008, -14/+6Redeem team is the dumbest name ever. What possibly do they have to redeem? So they lost in '04, bfd. The US team has lost only 4 times since basketball was added to the olympics. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say they're the best team in the world.
- MvP1292, on 08/19/2008, -12/+2Mandatory; Only 80 diggs and on the front page?
- craznar, on 08/19/2008, -17/+7Yes... and the US media can be called the 'spin' team, who else is listing medals by totals, rather than by gold ....http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2008/med ...
