Oh yeah.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYOgC2Qbqh4 - 60effects, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7As a Gator fan, I'll admit I was worried a little about Donovan going to Kentucky. The history & enormity of UK basketball didn't worry me -- it was the challenge that the job presented. After 11 yrs, a new challenge can look pretty tempting.
- Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yet it's equally as sensible to leave a place after you've won back to back championships. Not really much more you can do.

Reason people hate Duke - shakestheclown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6and you think anyone wants to know about Duke in a Kentucky thread? wow...
I hate Duke because of the attitude. They even think they are special when they play in a filled high school gym.
Florida has been much more successful in football and even basketball than Duke. Kentucky, UCLA, North Carolina are far better in tradition. Duke doesn't even have a football team, so we won't go there.
Good basketball program. But there are better, and I don't hate them. No tradition other than 1 coach.
Good academics. But there are better, and I certainly don't hate them.
So what is it again that you think Duke has that no other college does, and is the reason I hate it solely? - krabat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Just because Paducah is a ***** doesn't mean that every city in the state is, friend. Billionaire horse farmers aren't usually meth addicts.
- shakestheclown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5hahaha @ ray
if anyone wants to know why I support all the NCAA basketball teams besides Duke, here is a good example.
Go Kentucky, Go Florida, Go VCU, Go North Carolina, Go UCLA...just make sure you beat Duke.
The most hated team for a reason (and no, it's not success). - xigxag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Everyone please watch that second youtube link.
This is why you suck. - jasonlyvers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@aliengoods
Tubby was never wanted at UK. He wasn't Pitino, and he started his own son for several years, even though his son sucked. Yes, UK fans demand perfection, but Tubby wasn't even in the ballpark, and they gave him a long time to get it right. He got one championship his first year (with Pitino's players), and then started playing Tubbyball. UK fans were used to full-court, fast paced teams, not this boring, slow crap that Tubby brought in. Yes, the expectations are high, but if they weren't, it wouldn't be called UK, it would be called Nebraska. I don't think you can say Billy D. passed because of the pressure, he passed because he can write his own check at Florida right now. After 2 championships, he really couldn't leave.
My 2 cents, go after Mark Few at Gonzaga. - figles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're right, Lexington is full of meth addicts...and hillbillies... and inbred morons, but that's only on the weekends when the western Kentucky folks venture into "town" to restock their supplies of grain and typhoid medicine...and meth, (covered) wagons and wagons full of meth - ergo the meth labs in Lexington.
j/k Western Kentuckians, the internets know of your international bbq festivities, quilting capital, corvette factory, Kentucky Lake and whatnot - and greatly appreciate all of it. - camilop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Frankly, most of the hype around Donovan going to UK was created by Wildcat fans, especially on Catpause.com. It was kind of ridiculous, and today, the board pretty much melted down, counting over 16k viewers at one point.
At this point, Kentucky is really stuck for options. All the attention paid to Billy D means that every other coach gets interviewed knowing that they are the second pick. At the same time, Tubby has a fair amount of friends in the business, and most people see it the same way. A pretty good coach left a great job because the fans decided that anything less than yearly perfection was unacceptable. Tough to sell your program, though the passion of the program would appeal to some. People just wonder, of the top dogs in coaching, a lot of them right now are building their own programs, so why would they want to leave? - davids, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As a former student and alum of Texas A&M University, I hope that our coach stays here and turns down the job like Donovan and Barnes did.
Gig 'Em Aggies
Class of 2000 - jsg7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6But Florida lost their 6 best players, so they can forget about a 3-peat
- jsg7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ camilop
Oh, I still expect Florida to be pretty good, but they aren't even a lock to finish #1 in the SEC East after losing basically every proven player on the roster. Sadly, my Commodores aren't likely to leapfrog them after losing Derrick Byars. Tennessee is probably the best team in the SEC next year assuming Chris Lofton stays for his senior year. - xigxag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is why you suck!
- krabat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm a UK alumn, and I figured all the talk was more locally generated than anything. Now that he has back to back championships, he can do pretty much whatever he wants there, which is hard to say no to. I'll admit I would have liked to see him head the Cats, but oh well.
- 70ny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It wouldn't make sense to leave a place where he is loved. There is also less pressure on him in Florida. The Kentucky job can take years off of your life.
- doubleblack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought he was hinting that he would accept the Kentucky Position during the Pre-Game Speech when he kept referencing Horse Racing...Kentucky Derby anyone...?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ spielen
You've obviously never been to Lexington then have you? I've grown up about an hour away from both Louisville and Lexington (a small town called Carrollton) and I can tell you UK fans DEMAND perfection. I don't think there are that many coaches that would want to deal with the pressure of dealing with wildcat fans everyday. - aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a Gopher fan, I'm surprised Tubby came to Minnesota. It begs the question of what is wrong with Kentucky. I have a feeling Donavan's decision was more about the pressure on coaches at Kentucky, and the fact that unless you win a championship every other year you're considered a failure. Why would anyone want to be in that position? It's kind of like Notre Dame football. Unless Weiss wins a BCS bowl game this year, he's going to be on the hot seat.
- davids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hindesky, KU = Kansas University, UK = Kentucky. Like when t-sips (tu) call themselves UT, which is actually University of Tennessee. I do agree if we had any history, he might have stayed but HE could have built a dynasty here and had no one to over shadow him. At UK, if he does not win the national championship fast and multiple times over the next few years UK fans will chew him up and spit him out.
- Mike.Dunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Once living in KY, I would like ot see UK rise to the power that Pitino once had it at, but, since he moved on to Louisville, I can still cheer for a strong KY team...
- fakeplasticsnow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@jsg7
but florida is also reruiting the best high school players. Since Donovan is staying, Patrick Patterson, the best high school center right now, will more than likely go to Florida. - davids, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2enforcer98, did you forget a few weeks ago Gillispie BEAT Louisville to go to the sweet 16. Billy G has built a program here at Texas A&M University that was on the rise FAST. He just told his players and recruits that he was NOT leaving TAMU and to be "rest assured". Well now he has made himself into a liar. I'm sure he will win a championship there but if he does not win at least 2 in the next 6-7 years they will fire him! He is not Tubby part 2, he is Billy Clyde and I am P*SSED off he lied to us and is taking off already!
Fightin' Texas Aggie
Class of 2000 - radio1mike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Go to UK so he can follow in the footsteps of his mentor Pitino?
Not likely.
Still have great memories of PC's run to the final four in 87. Damn, that was 20yrs ago/ F*ck, I'm old. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's nice to see a coach staying for once instead of going for the bright lights and big bucks. I know Florida is a football school first and foremost, but I hope Donavan stays there for the rest of his career and builds a great program. I doubt they would three peat, but if they did then he has to be considered one of the best.
- Cornedbeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not saying he made the right decision or not, but it may take a while for the Florida Gators to win another NCAA championship.
- malacor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There was no reason for Donovan to go to UK. With the success he's had at Florida he can recruit whoever the f*** he wants; with Florida's budget of $70 million he should be making just as much money, especially with kickbacks from winning the championship.
UK needs to not only hire a good coach but be able to hold him for more than a few years if they want to turn their fading program around. - spielen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Don't be an imbecile, no one expects perfection every year.
- camilop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@jsg7
We're still not badly off, and can definitely contend for the SEC, and who knows what else. Recruiting's brought in some studs, notable Nick Calathes, who can fit in perfectly in the mold of Lee Humphrey. While a four-man-deep PF/C is a thing of the past, we're not badly off with Mareesse Speights (he's really good). At one point I remember seeing some stats that showed him to be one of the most efficient scorer on the team in terms of points per minute played :) They called him Instant Offense on the team. If we're lucky, we have a shot at getting Patrick Patterson to play alongside Speights.
Next year doesn't look too glum - HinDeSky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1At least Rick Barnes had the decency to say no to KU. Maybe if A&M had some kind of basketball history Billy G. might have stayed.
- camilop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@spielen
You're right, but Kentucky basketball comes close. Sort of like Bama football these days. You can't deny they expect a steady stream of championships, at least SEC championships to go alongside their 40+ SEC chips, which just isn't going to happen anymore. The SEC has stiffened up for the few decades, and isn't rolling over to Tucky anymore. There's not going to be another Wildcat Invitational for a long time. - Daole, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'm crying on the inside... We really need someone to come in and turn our program around.
- JeffS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1When good teams start too suck why do they always fall back on "tradition?"
- camilop, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@gallagherFTW
so you're saying beating Kentucky isn't a challenge? :)
In the end, no matter where you coach, you're still coaching to achieve the same goals. The only difference is that in Kentucky, you won't measure up. - triple6vampyre, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Billy D. heard all the hillbilly fans crying an thought to himself...hmmm the heck with them sheep wranglers.
- FallenSeraph, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Yeah I don't blame him, I wouldn't come here either.
-_-' - jasoneisen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Poor UK fans. They feel like they deserve a championship season every year. They better learn to take what they can get now that they can't get what they want.
Oh, they'll kick and scream, that's a given. But they better learn.
UofL is going to beat them into the ground next year. - MeanGeno, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Of course Donovan is staying at Florida.
I live in Western Kentucky (Paducah, a.k.a. America's Craphole) and I knew that he was never coming here. The only thing they have in Lexington is Meth labs, Hillbillies, Tobacco Fields, Imbreeding, and Morons. . UK is not the basketball program as it was once.
Go Louisville - enforcer98, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0This is the funniest thing Ive ever seen. First Donavon and then Barnes. UK fans will get Billy Gillispie which is basically Tubby Smith part 2. Good luck with that. Can we say NIT next year? Its great being a Louisville fan.
- raymiester500, on 10/12/2007, -11/+0@shakestheclown
Nobody wants to know who you like, it doesn't matter. You hate Duke because they have an amazing athletics and academic program. You're jealous, and your community college obviously didn't satisfy your needs. - gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2as a wildcats fan (and student) i can't help but think that donovan is a pussy. the biggest challenge of his life and he won't accept it. everyone here is disappointed. he can stick with florida but UK will beat his ass next year with a new coach.
- raymiester500, on 10/12/2007, -12/+0The only college basketball fans who bleed blue are the ones from Duke, the best fans in college basketball.
