- jacobmorrison, on 11/02/2009, -4/+110I thought this was real until seeing url
- Auntmac, on 11/02/2009, -13/+93I usually like the onion, but this wasn't very funny.
- inactive, on 11/01/2009, -7/+78Lame headline change.
- imborden, on 11/02/2009, -12/+76not cool, really not cool
- whatupdoc18, on 11/02/2009, -2/+52thank goodness it's the onion, that's a messed up title to see first thing in the morning
- RasputinForever, on 11/02/2009, -4/+42The title the Onion gave this link was far more appropriate than the one given on by the submitter. Don't hate the Onion, they have done no wrong.
- popstation, on 11/02/2009, -11/+43I know people who work there you *****.
- bruin8uclap, on 11/02/2009, -1/+30The submitter should be faulted for the misleading headline since someone who is getting this story straight from the Onion would instantly know that it is intended to satire - very dark satire, but satire nonetheless. That being said, I personally found it hilarious. I've told anyone that would listen that the Clippers basketball franchise should be sold to another owner or folded. Donald Sterling is the cheapest owner in sports and is only in it for the money. He has NO intention of ever fielding a championship level team or anything close to that. Hence, the Onion stating that people would find it more disastrous to watch an entire Clippers basketball game than to die in a Staples Center collapse is humorous to me. The Onion reporting that Blake Griffin has been found having committed suicide? Also hilarious. Why does this make me laugh so much? Well who would this story anger the most? Ah yes, the worst owner in all of pro sports: Donald Sterling. BREAKING NEWS: Dark humor is dark.
Still, the submitter shouldn't have posted that headline... - SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/02/2009, -2/+29No. Submitter is a *****.
- keysersozejr, on 11/02/2009, -12/+37Some people are born ***** and just grow bigger.
And why the ***** is a story with only 32 Diggs on the front page? - spacebum, on 11/02/2009, -6/+26Is that headline supposed to be part of the humor?
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/02/2009, -2/+22Good thing no one actually died then...
- solmakou, on 11/02/2009, -6/+24This guy got owned by The Onion
- scyphozoa, on 11/02/2009, -8/+25yeah fake news is funny but i draw the line at fake tragedy
- IKORKYI, on 11/02/2009, -1/+17i don't see sarcasm in "BREAKING NEWS: STAPLES CENTER COLLAPSE, DOZENS KILLED"
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/02/2009, -5/+21The submitters title kind of ***** it up by making it seem like it was real.
I thought it was hilarious after I got over thinking something had actually happened. - IamNOTmrT, on 11/02/2009, -3/+17This video has reminded me of the Clippers' existence
- Scabdates, on 11/02/2009, -2/+16protip: it says "dozens killed" because that is the number of people that watch the terrible ***** clippers play basketball
***** - samard2002, on 11/02/2009, -17/+31A rare miss by The Onion, but man what a miss it was.
- Ruefus, on 11/02/2009, -4/+16The Onion didn't screw this up. The headline was fine - from the Onion. The person who submitted it to Digg is the jackhole.
- rabidlemur, on 11/02/2009, -0/+10Obviously you have never had to sit through a clippers game if you dont find this funny.
- readparse, on 11/02/2009, -2/+11Onion articles seem to always be a problem headline on this site. Listen up, folks. When people go to The Onion, they're expecting satire. When they go to Digg, they're expecting -- well, pretty much anything.
If the Staples Center really had collapsed, it would have been here and it would have had the same headline. So when I saw that headline, I quickly wondered why the CNN headline I had checked moments ago was about the President of Afghanistan and then went straight back to CNN to see if they had mentioned the carnage in LA.
If you post an article from The Onion on Digg, you should prepend "The Onion: " to it, or at least "Onion: ". For example, if you post an article that says "Statue of Liberty Flashes Ferry Passengers," you should make the headline "Onion: Statue of Liberty Flashes Ferry Passengers".
This will help the sophisticated user understand that it comes from The Onion -- and even people who don't know what The Onion is will see that up front and it will give them some reason to believe it's not a normal news story.
That said, when I actually watched the video, I found it very amusing. The Onion's recent foray into the world of video has been very impressive. This is dark humor, but The Onion didn't cross the line. The poster of this headline DID cross the line, though. - theghoul, on 11/02/2009, -1/+8Bad Headline.
Better without the assumption of death:
BREAKING: The Onion puts the clippers out of their misery! - nullmind, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7And then I flicked the monitor back on to write the above comment?
- lolque, on 11/02/2009, -10/+15A FABRICATED TRAGEDY THAT IS FAR MORE THAN IMPROBABLE?
Guess it's time for the white knights of the internet to convene and fancy themselves a step above laughing at imaginary misfortune.
Jesus Christ, Digg. Get off your high horse and find your sense of humor. This is all too similar to COD MW 2 and the Airport level. It's not at all real, not even in the wildest dreams of some architect or engineer would that structure merely "collapse". - TabDelineated, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6buried for title.
- uberduger, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6"Is 'Scabdates' being offensive?"
*Click*
"Report received! Thanks." - SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4They're both redundant.
- fuzzrhythm, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4They weren't innocent, they were Clippers
- gizram84, on 11/02/2009, -6/+10wake me up when the onion is funny.
seriously bad taste. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4@asgardshill: So? The submitters an idiot, but you shouldn't let that spoil a perfectly funny Onion video. Their headline was perfectly good and appropriate, as well as funny.
- uberduger, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4Laughing at it is fine, but it's the massively misleading headline that people are complaining about!
- leetninja, on 11/02/2009, -2/+5wtf is laffing?
- AmishMack, on 11/02/2009, -2/+5Somewhat funny, but buried for lame title.
- wrestlingnrj, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4Especially when my friend was at Staples Center yesterday.
- CraigHwk, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3Tasteless..
- dawgma, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3***** you submitter.
I REALLY wish there was a way to bury submitters themselves, and not just their stories. - defteats, on 11/02/2009, -3/+6That was hilarious, specifically the part about Blake Griffin hanging himself b4 the game.
- Ryanleafasaurus, on 11/02/2009, -3/+6103+ people seem to be "laffing"
- kahranx, on 11/02/2009, -5/+8Buried for lame headline.
- nullmind, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4Well The Onion has been doing ***** like this for years and probably enjoys slicing the communities in half between pussies and apathetic people like me that find it funny.
- diggbigwig, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2That just happens to be the size of the Onion staff. Coincidence?
- nullmind, on 11/02/2009, -3/+5Everyone basically summed up what I thought too. Fake tragedy indeed is lame, but The Onion probably did it better than anyone else could.
- geauxtig3rs, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2The only problem is, if someone remarks that the story is from the onion, I don't get to see the average person berate a gullible idiot for thinking a obviously satirical story is real AND I don't get to see self-righteous a-holes get all in a tizzy because they were frightened.
- TitsMageee, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2*Wildest nightmare*
No engineer dreams about having a building collapse. - Ryanleafasaurus, on 11/02/2009, -3/+5I think you are taking digg and the internet too seriously
- uberduger, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2Woah.... I just realised WTF is FTW backwards.
******* - Conguent, on 11/02/2009, -1/+3Sports humor.
I don't get it. - DarthSupero, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2I think he *flipped off* the monitor.

What is Digg?
