- onederwall, on 07/03/2009, -1/+25Shaq with Cavs and now this? It's going to be an exciting season.
- Lkr721993, on 07/03/2009, -0/+23They are actually friends, but fierce competitors on court
- radarplane, on 07/03/2009, -0/+21Aw crap, my Rockets!
- skyer, on 07/03/2009, -11/+27lakers 2010 champs
- cococrispies, on 07/03/2009, -2/+15O RLY? I seem to remember the Lakers WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- cococrispies, on 07/03/2009, -0/+11For everyone sad Ariza is leaving, blame his agent. He tried to play tough with the Lakers and get more money than Houston had offered, which the Lakers would have matched, but when his agent said he needed more they just went and signed Artest. Now if they resign Odom, they'll be in great shape.
- asunesara, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9Now the Lakers have someone to guard Lebron, Richard Jefforson/Manu (the two teams they will likely have to go through for another championship).
Kobe can focus on offense and still be a lock-down defender on smaller players. Every team needs a garbage man--Artest fills that really well when he isn't the number one option on offense.
Also, Artest has matured over the years. Assuming he would blow up when they have a bad streak is underestimating him, I think. - ProKid, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9I'm a little bummed that Ariza left. I think he's gonna try and get his numbers up now that he's already got a ring. But it sucks he took the same money to go to a team thats falling apart with chronic injuries. I love Artest though, he's going to bring some much needed toughness to our squad. I'm so pumped on this, I can't wait to get my Artest jersey. Oh and FYI to everyone who doesn't know, Kobe & Artest are friends off the court, they just love the game and love to compete, chemistry will be just fine.
- arbysrocks, on 07/03/2009, -0/+9It's much easier for an individual in the NBA to dominate his team and carry them on his shoulder than it is in baseball. You get 1 or 2 great players on your basketball team and you're nba finals material every year.
- ProKid, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8Actually they are friends. They both just love the game and love to compete. They've always been good.
- llopez1223, on 07/03/2009, -0/+7Artest's physical style of play is a great counterpart to Kobe's finesse.
- bunk3rk1ng, on 07/03/2009, -2/+9Danget, now I can't go to any Laker games. Don't want to get punched in the face.
- Nairebis, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Loyalty to what? It's a job. Do you have loyalty to the company you work for? Should you accept less money, just for the sake of staying with one place? Or accepting less money so your company can hire someone else, and so they can come out on top in the business world?
The way people see sports are just bizarre. It's a business. Nothing more. - ProKid, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5The Lakers are under the salary your know? It just comes down to luck really and how well players play together. Who would of known MJ would lead the Bulls to 6 chips? They weren't anyone before him. Same with the Spurs picking up Tim Duncan and building a team around him. Cleveland could be another team to enter this circle if they build a strong team around LeBron.
- arbysrocks, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5apparently you don't remember when rodman went to the bulls. he tore ***** up and helped the bulls get the best regular season record ever.
- LuCiFer6, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4It can work but like Lkr721993 mentioned; they're friends off the court.
But hey if Rodman and Pippen were able to co-exist then anybody can play with each other. - thaprinze, on 07/03/2009, -2/+6You know, one of the biggest issues people have with baseball is that since there is no salary cap, the teams with more money can dominate the field, while the smaller markets find it very hard to compete. The salary cap was designed to help even out all of the teams and give them (roughly) the same chance at winning a title.
Yet, in the NBA, over the last 30 years, only 8 teams have won the NBA Finals. Lakers (9), Bulls (6), Celtics(4), Spurs (4), Pistons (3), Rockets (2), 76ers (1) and Heat(1). I wonder why that is... - datdamonfoo, on 07/03/2009, -1/+5Do you know the difference between "then" and "than"?
- hawksfan03, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3did you see the stories about how yao might not ever play again? go read those and then rewrite your comment.
- hawksfan03, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3ariza playing on another team is highly overrated. on the lakers he wasn't asked to do much but performed exceptionally well. if another team tries to make him a starter i think they'll see he's just an average player.
- hawksfan03, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3you've never gotten emotional in an intense game? when you're on the court (or field) it's about your team and winning the game, not about not hurting your friends' feelings
- bboyjkang, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Shaq
Wallace
Carter
Jefferson
Artest
Powerful teams are getting more powerful - shamanking911, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3It seems like the Lakers placed priority on resigning Odom than Ariza.
- anandpopat, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Good for the Lakers. Ariza is not as good, and wanted more money. Why pay for Ariza past Kobe's prime, it's not worth it. Now they can re-sign odom
- raza7370, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3 it is Artest though, he's going to bring some much needed toughness to our squad...
- yacks, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Actually, Barry Sanders wanted out of Detroit, but Detroit wouldn't let him, so he just retired way early.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Ya they are great competitors...not enemies.
- sgvprelude, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Late in his career? Artest is 29, he's in his prime, instead of wasting it to a lottery bound team he has a chance to sign with one of the most successful franchises in NBA history. Plus he's already been with 4 teams, it's not he was a career long Houston Rocket like Malone was with Utah. Hell Malone has a freakin statue in Utah. If I were a Jazz fan I would rip that thing down. Artest made an outstanding career move, can't hate him for looking out for his own best interests.
- clander, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2This will be great for Artest's music career! Let's hope he punches Lou Adler!
- mizatt, on 07/03/2009, -3/+5Weird decision by Ariza to leave the champions and sign for the MLE somewhere else. Without Yao next season he's going to basically have to hope they tank and get a high draft pick
- Bega, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2lot of Lakers fans out today I see. I got pretty annoyed at Artest's move being a Houston guy. but I guess with the amount of damage we took this season it won't matter anyway. rebuilding is pretty much the only option.
- ShingoEX, on 07/03/2009, -7/+8Now Kobe will be throwing elbows to his own teammate.
- fuzzytank, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2Damnit, Artest... you just lost all your cool points again.
I really dug the rivalry he was starting with Kobe. - tspchen, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1resign Odom, and we've got ourselves a dynasty here, folks.
- MrZaiko, on 07/03/2009, -2/+3MONEY makes people happy
- theprototype, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1Noooooooooooooooooooo!
- indraroop, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Ron Artest hits girls!
- eMximeR, on 07/03/2009, -4/+5I hate the trend in sports today of sports stars leaving their teams to join a power house late in their career in an attempt to get a championship. There's nothing wrong with wanting to win, but jumping ship is a lame ass trend that I believe started with Karl Malone and Gary Payton when they joined the Lakers in 2003. It's been happening a lot in baseball and football now too, I just wish athletes today had more loyalties like Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, and John Stockton did.
- mrogi, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1"Hey Kobe, stop shooting and pass the ball. Don't you know you playing with Ron Artest?' - ron artest
The Artest contract stipulates there must be a broken table leg at the scorer's table for each game. - MrZaiko, on 07/03/2009, -3/+4***** I loved the Artest Vs Kobe thing.
Rasheed Wallace better come to the Celts. This is the final year for the big 3 - hawksfan03, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1your post is almost unreadable.
- sgvprelude, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1I see what you "tried" to do there.
- louiebaur, on 07/03/2009, -2/+3and after that it will be 2011:-)
- PhoenixTx, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1Darn it.
- kiantech, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1and the bobcats swept the lakers during the season...whats your point. Sometimes you play crappy when you know the team sucks.
- jpyumul, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2Fisher
Bryant
Artest
Gasol
Bynum
Jackson will definitely come back next season...
.... Odom and my man MBENGA coming coming off the bench
2010 CHAMPS!!! - bbeep, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1The NBA does have a cap though. It's a soft cap, but teams that go over simply have to pay a luxury tax on the amount over the cap they go. For this season that just ended, the cap was $58.68m.
- Tejbir32, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Now people really can't question the Laker's toughness. Plus, now Ron Artest can gaurd the other teams best player, allowing Kobe to have more energy throughout the game. But I'm still sad to see Ariza go, without him the Lakers might not have won the championship.
- ronartest, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Yeah thats right boys. Artest is in the House!
- rohit275, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czW4cKiT83w
Yeah they hate each other all right....
That was barely a year ago. -
