- nahsrocketeer75, on 09/23/2009, -2/+26Tracy McGrady No. 1? WTF?
- mostie, on 09/23/2009, -0/+21Zach Randolph, eh? That was money well spent.
- NoticeDesign, on 09/23/2009, -1/+17Holy *****. Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, and Dwayne Wade make less than Zach Randolph and Andrei Kirilenko?
- nonggoo, on 09/24/2009, -2/+15lebron james is still on his rookie contract.... just thought i'd clear that up.
- chuck667, on 09/24/2009, -0/+9back then he deserved that contract.
remember this?:

Also, he is supposedly having a great rehab and is ahead of schedule. He is in a contract year so I'm expecting ridiculous numbers again. - ElAmo, on 09/24/2009, -0/+8Zach Randolph scores and rebounds a lot.... Jermain Oneal is the true black hole on this list.
(no racist or homosexual puns intended). - chuck667, on 09/24/2009, -0/+7Marbury's contract was pretty bad.
You've gotta watch out who you give a backloaded max contract to, Otherwise in 5 years Amare will be getting 30 mill and will still be stinking it up on defense. - stinkystevens, on 09/24/2009, -1/+6the 2003 drafted batch of superstar mentioned such bron, wade and melo..they are no longer on their basic rookie contracts..they are on their extended contracts that could happen after a rookie contract expires..
a 1st round pick contract is only good for 4 guaranteed years..but the nba later changed it to just 2 years guaranteed and the next two depends if the team/franchise would still want to pick up the remaining two years of a rookie contract..so that means rookies are only given two years to show what they really got..
its a good way for owners and franchise to lessen the suffering they endure from rookie contracts in the past..where they have to hold a rookie contract for four years even though a player didnt lived up to the expectation..
plus i think this is a good way to lessen draft flops in the first round..i mean players now wont be just contented from getting paid a lot of money for just showing up..they would have to bring it since they are only given just two years to adapt and evolve their game into the big league.. - GoKings, on 09/24/2009, -0/+5It's how the NBA contract structuring works. In their first years the players can only make a certain amount of money. Next year when they are all free agents, they will make significantly more.
- TomGfromCanada, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4if you want to check out the entire league
http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm - ileftfark, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4Kirilenko was the only surprise in this list. Put asses in the seats and perform. It's not Houston Science.
- mandraque, on 09/24/2009, -2/+6Jermain O'Neil = facepalm
I mean he is good, and it is hard to get a good center in the league, but damn, That is a lot of money. If his knees are good he might be worth some of that this season.
w.e.
GO HEAT!!! - PuddMaster, on 09/24/2009, -1/+5when he got that contract he was arguably the best player in the nba (kobe?)...injuries have plagued him ever since
- doobiebrother, on 09/24/2009, -1/+4Not after 2010.
- subliminali, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3you dont have to wait 5 years for amare to stink it up on defense...
- subliminali, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2they pay a very sizable chunk of their salaries and about half of their bonuses in taxes so actually the federal government makes quite a good chunk of change on our national sports teams.
- stinkystevens, on 10/02/2009, -0/+2dude..he was doing fine before injury plagued him. Just like the other superstars that were signed with bloated contracts..anyways, at least Indiana got some years out of him worthy on the annual pay..unlike what happened to Grant hill signing with orlando..men, he was a stud before orlando signed him..too bad after playing only for the first couple of games on his first year with new multi-year contract.., he was derailed with the near career ending ankle injury..throughout the year span of the contract he was paid 10+ million that annually increases as contract expires. With J.O. They at least had a couple of years with him were he was on all star status. Enough said.
- shamanking911, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2really thought Kobe would top that list easily, guess not
- inactive, on 09/24/2009, -1/+3Congress looking into the ***** NBA? Seriously? You know they are paid with our tax dollars, right? I'd rather them work on useful *****.
Let the players get paid whatever they can get. Stop being so angry that some people are able to make millions of dollars, and not you. People pay to see professional athletes perform, and that's why they make so much. Go be angry somewhere else. - edcrosay, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1I'm just glad the Blazers dumped him, randolph and sheed. We ended up with a few seasons of *****, but we can only go up from there.
- RilDaddy, on 09/30/2009, -1/+2Jermaine O'Neal is a complete hack. What a waste of money...
- jrm71588, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1I feel really poor and sad
- prolikewhoa, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1You should see baseball salaries
- brakes4turtles, on 09/24/2009, -1/+2Where Zach Randolph making more than LeBron and D-Wade happens
- AndrewLeon, on 09/24/2009, -1/+2Zach Randolph is the *****. You take that back.
He was a decent guy and played with 100% effort in the time he was on the floor....
That's more than you can say for the other Huge Clipper Salary, Baron Davis. - doobiebrother, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1* The Hoop Doctors in no way guarantees the accuracy of the data.
- bbeep, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1This is a base salary comparison. There's no way to accurately compare salaries other than using base salaries because the rest of the money is incentive based and therefore not guaranteed.
- Lederhosed, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Marbury is the all time worst
- stinkystevens, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1not even playing?
the 23.4 million that he would receive from the rockets is his final year of his contract.
this was part of the contract extension rockets gave him when he was still playing like the immortal mcgrady we all love and know..(this is what really stinks for a franchise, the risk of signing players getting injured, and most notably signing superstars)
let's say a player is offered 40mil for 4 years..the contract's annual pay in the nba would be like:
1st year= 8 mil
2nd year= 9 mil
3rd year= 10 mil
4th year= 13 mil
_____________
total= 40 mil
so if a team has a 12 mil caproom, and just sgined a player with this contract..they would still be able to sign a player with a starting 4 mil. contract since the 8mil of the caproom had already been used..
almost all contracts ends with the biggest number..since a contract of player when signed always starts from the lowest possible pay on their first year and its final year would be the largest..i believe teams do this so that their cap room could still have some flexibility especially when signing big contracts..namean?
on flash and cb4?
not a bad duo,..
but i believe bosh has the higher possibility of signing compared to wade...
since wade told that if heat organization surrounds him with decent players to help him get back as contenders,he wont leave..on the other side, bosh was mentioned on trade rumors at some point the past season. - stinkystevens, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1flash and cb4?not a bad duo...
as what we all know, a lot of success happened, having an excellent big man teamed up with an excellent backcourt player based on the nba history...
but i guess bosh would be a possible player to lure compared to wade..since wade said to the heat organization that if they surrounded him with some decent players that could possibly help them get back as contenders, he wont hesitate to resign..noting that wade and the rest of the organization have good relationship..i guess, that's the effect to a player that brought the heat their first ever championship..(my two cents is he would still be a heat, he's already part of their history, but again we never know..)
bosh on the other hand, had some ups and downs with the franchise..at some point he was rumored to be traded by gm Colangelo..Wade never did..though both teams would be alright in the future since both teams have a potential core players in the making, namely heat's J.Beasley(2nd pick of the 2008 draft) and toronto's A.Bargnani(1st pick of the 2006 draft)..both have superstar expectations with their respective franchise.. - ninjaX14, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1remember this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfurCV1FDpM
- TomGfromCanada, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1thats why you never leave until the end
- nydwarf, on 09/24/2009, -1/+1Wow maybe we should take up a collection for the underachievers that don't get their bonuses...
- copypastry, on 09/24/2009, -2/+2Totally worth it.
/s - Elset, on 09/24/2009, -0/+0If I recall correctly, TMac was the best player in the original NBA Street
- asunesara, on 09/24/2009, -2/+1I bet the owner, Les Alexander, is happy. He doesn't have to pay Yao or T-Mac--insurance does.
Daryl Morey, arguably the best GM in Basketball, is going to have a LOT of cap-space after this year ends since T-Mac and Yao are coming off the books. Can someone say...D-Wade/Bosh? - pistoche, on 09/24/2009, -2/+0When a SINGLE person earns 1% of total revenues and 3% of total profits of their company, keeping in mind these are the 500 largest companies and they make a lot of revenue and profit. It IS a problem.
- rocket122159, on 09/24/2009, -2/+0Tracy McGrady ~ 23.4 mil and he's not even playing!?! poor rockets! If I am playing for the rockets, I'll demand to pro rate it among the active players.
- Nlewis4, on 09/24/2009, -5/+3Zach Randolph shouldn't even be in the NBA
- zakatm, on 09/24/2009, -2/+0You think these guys know about a brand new effort that is underway right now?
Do you think they have paid a visit to: http://tinyurl.com/lpeqw8 - GeauxLSU, on 09/24/2009, -4/+1Wow, and the chief executives of America's 500 biggest companies took a collective 11% pay cut last year, earning total compensation of $5.7 billion, which averages out to $11.4 million apiece and computes to less than 1% of total revenues and 3% of total profits of their companies.
Maybe congress needs to look into the NBA instead? After all, the teams do receive government subsidies and funding for their arenas.
