- RunDiggMC, on 07/13/2009, -0/+21I can't wait for the rest of the country to see what we in San Francisco see every five days -- even if Lincecum only pitches an inning or two. The Giants were negatively associated with Barry Bonds for so long, and it's nice to have a rare, pure talent like Lincecum who plays with such enthusiasm. If he pitched in New York or Boston, he's be one of the most marketable players in baseball. It's too bad most of the country is sleeping when he's working his magic.
- californicator, on 07/13/2009, -1/+16Grab some pine, meat. Here comes The Freak!
- nofx1510, on 07/13/2009, -1/+12Tim Lincecum is a ***** freak.
- canadamike, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11Halladay has not only been the most dominant and consistent pitcher in the league since 2002, but as a Jays fan he is the epitome of the perfect player to have on your team. His attitude, work ethic, modesty, and downright nasty pitching is respected so much all over Toronto that even if he leaves when he becomes a free agent he will still be one of the most loved players in Jays history.
So in my opinion it is a good choice. - Janinco, on 07/13/2009, -1/+10Looking forward to a great game.
- Fleagleman, on 07/13/2009, -1/+8The Freak!!! Gotta love it. Good to see some Bay Area love, post Bonds.
- brownsound00, on 07/14/2009, -1/+8It's ridiculous to think that the Jays almost landed Lincecum in a deal involving Alex Rios and some prospects 2 years ago. That would have made the rotation Doc, Freak, Burnett, Marcum and McGowan. Add to the fact that they had the best ERA last year... that rotation is just scary haha.
Either way, I'm really excited to see the Doc take on the potent NL lineup! Go Jays! Go AL! - sgtbutterscotch, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Greinke's been worse than Halladay recently and he doesn't even have a reason.
- TYEZ, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5I agree brother!
- lostaznguy, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5GOOO GIANTS! They haven't been this good in a while. If giants continue this success in the second half, the country will realize that that this team is for real.
Too bad Cain is injured and won't be at the allstar as well.
BEAT LA!!!! (on behalf of the rivalry) - uncouthyouth, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Dan Haren deserved it just as much for putting up with the E-Backs and keeping his focus and throwing great baseball night after night. And his numbers have been phenomenal.
- lamejoketeller, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Kruk and Kuip should call every game ever.
- thegamingguy, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4In case the link is broken now for some odd reason, try this.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-all-starl ... - snareguy17, on 07/14/2009, -1/+4Lincecum is an effing beast.
- 1856pa, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3Listening to other announcers call games makes me realize every time that Kruk and Kuip are way better and that we as giants fans are spoiled with their ability to make games more entertaining.
- casspa, on 07/13/2009, -6/+8Halladay has not been the same since his little stint on the DL. Now I support Joe Maddon in everything he does (except repeatedly play Burrell), but this start should be Greinke's and not Halladay's.
- sherm420, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2greinke wants to hit, hopefully he gets that chance now.
- modsuperstar, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Greinke is just falling victim to the law of averages. You can't pitch at sub 1.00 forever and given he doesn't have the best of teams behind him it was bound to catch up to him.
- modsuperstar, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2That possible deal still makes me cry a little inside.
- ManUnitdFan, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I was at Wrigley when he came in and pitched against the Cubs last year. I agree with you 100%. The man just lit us up like a Christmas tree.
- wh14890, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Lincecum is...well...a little strange looking.
http://digg.com/d1wcW4 - lostaznguy, on 07/14/2009, -1/+2Yea, both of them are 10-2. And all the offense usually comes from The Panda... Paying Zito that much was a mistake.
- lamejoketeller, on 07/13/2009, -1/+2Lincecum and Cain are pretty much the only reason the Giants are the 2nd best team in the NL. It's so telling of the business decisions made by Giants' managers that Barry Zito gets paid the most of any MLB pitcher in history, he's on a pitching staff with the 2 main Cy Young contenders, switching off with Randy Johnson, and yet neither of them are true assets to the team.
Anyone who watched the game on Sunday and saw Zito get booed off the field knows how painful it is to see Zito in a starting slot every 5 games. - sgtbutterscotch, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Your team doesn't decide your ERA. And he wasn't really even being a shell of his self at the beginning of the season lately. I honestly think he can be as good as he showed earlier.
- Jaq524, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1As a sox fan, I'm really excited to see this guy.
- Thebruce88, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Who were the two prospects though? I think if one of them was Travis Snider, I'd rather hold on to him. The rotation for next year should be pretty ***** awesome anyways: Halladay, Romero, Marcum, Mcgowan (?), and Richmond. Get Tallet back in the bullpen where he belongs, and 2010 is shaping up to be a great year for the jays.
- modsuperstar, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Halladay is owed a start after he was supposed to get the start 3 or 4 years ago, then took a line drive off his shin in his last start before the All Star game and missed a good chunk of the season. He didn't even get the start during his Cy Young year either.
- 1856pa, on 07/14/2009, -1/+1Actually that's not true. Zito has pitched some amazing games this year, but that is when Eli Whiteside is the catcher. Before sundays outing, he pitched an 8 and one third inning shutout before being taken out. When Molina is catching Zito, chances are he will cause a loss for the team. But when Zito is in the zone (although it is not often), I believe he is the most fun pitcher to watch on the Giants staff because he'll just paint corners.
It's not just because of Cain and Lincecum that the Giants are in second, it's their bullpen too. Giants pitching is dominating the NL right now and now all they need to do is to find a solid bat or two to put behind Pablo and all the missing pieces of the puzzle could be put together to create a championship team. - coopaloop, on 07/13/2009, -4/+4They got it right, Halladay and Lincyare the two best pitchers, they should start.
- rmiller07, on 07/14/2009, -4/+3Should've been Haren.
- Wailord, on 07/14/2009, -5/+3Should be Greinke vs Haren.
- Eldorian, on 07/14/2009, -5/+2Greinkie should have gotten the start... if the Royals could actually support him when he pitches he'd have the most wins in the majors right now.
- twomeyw23334, on 07/13/2009, -6/+2I just hope Wakefield gets to throw the ball at some point.
- zombiecw, on 07/14/2009, -5/+1Zack Grienke has been the best AL starting pitcher this year period. I am not sure why Madden(sp?) is suddenly using 'body of work' against the pitcher from a small market team. My two cents anyways.
