- TheKriket, on 10/27/2009, -5/+50I would imagine that most people hate the Yankee's, or at least have a fond distaste for them.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/27/2009, -6/+45The Yankees own the biggest bandwagon on the planet.
- WordsnCollision, on 10/27/2009, -8/+36The Yankees are essentially buying championships. How does this help baseball or even the Yankees (and their fans) in the long run? Some sort of payroll parity system must be put in place, and soon.
- nostradumass, on 10/27/2009, -4/+26A very close second- Red Sox Nation
- lindenwold, on 10/27/2009, -2/+14based on this article:

i would say Yankees fans . . . .
then again, in philly, we kill people in the parkign lot . . .literally. :( - badqat, on 10/27/2009, -1/+11The Yankees have always done that. Good luck with getting MLB to do anything beyond the "luxury" tax.
- dcipjr, on 10/27/2009, -1/+10Ah...well, I'm sorry you guys had a bad experience. Even though I don't think these fans truly represent the majority of Phils fans, there is a fair share of obnoxious people that like to go to the stadium and get loaded. Wearing the jersey or colors of an opposing team is sure to attract their attention.
This is especially true if you're representing the Yankees or Red Sox. Not to make excuses, but even though the Phils have a good team -- and have had a good team for a couple years now -- it seems that the Yanks and Sox are the teams that get virtually all the coverage in the news media, and there are a lot of folks in Philly that resent the lack of recognition the Phils seem to get. The Yankees got all the good game times in the divisional series, while we got shafted with 2:37 PM EST and 10:07 PM EST. I guess it's another reason why we want to beat the Yankees so badly this year.
I would say most Phillies fans you'll meet are decent enough folks that are pretty passionate about their team. I hope you have a better experience next time. - Blinker1315, on 10/27/2009, -2/+11I'm rooting for the Phillies because as a Bosox fan I hate the Yanks. And I like the players on the Phils. But what fans are more obnoxious? I've been to Yankee Stadium maybe 100 times, only a few times to Phils' games in their various stadia. Last time I went, to an inter-league game, some of the fans were so rude (and loaded at two in the p.m.) that it ruined the game. One guy was cursing at my younger son who had the temerity to wear a Jon Lester t-shirt. That led to a lot of unpleasantness. (And truth be told, Fenway Fans are no model of manners either.)
- SooperSonic, on 10/27/2009, -2/+10Who's more obnoxious - Yankees fans or Phillies fans? Not accusing either side, just curious as to what people think.
- AmyVernon, on 10/27/2009, -6/+14How are they buying championships? First off, they haven't even won a championship in nearly a decade. And second, some of their best talent has never played anywhere but for the Yanks (Derek Jeter, Mariano).
- dcipjr, on 10/27/2009, -4/+11As a Phillies fan, I'm obviously biased, but I don't think Phils fans are obnoxious at all. Some Eagles fans have been notorious for bad behavior, but don't let a select group of fans ruin your impression of the fans for the whole city. The Phillies fans in general are pretty knowledgeable and loyal.
Incidentally, most Phillies fans I know don't mind the Yankees that much. We don't particularly like them, and would love to beat them in the World Series, don't get me wrong, but the New York baseball team we hate? That would be the Mets. - JoeHague, on 10/28/2009, -2/+8/\
Mets fan. - brainboy7777, on 10/28/2009, -3/+9Do the writers of this article realize Yankee fans could have given less a ***** about phillies fans before this month. I mean, the only team we hate are bosox. And oh do we hate the red sox. As for us buying up all the talent, wake up. Everyone does that: phillies, red sox, tigrs, angels, dodgers, mets.
- russ3, on 10/28/2009, -0/+6well they all try, but no one can fill stands like good winning teams, allowing them to reinvest....
- boojiboi, on 10/28/2009, -1/+7Correction: Dodgers/Angels fan.
- stubear, on 10/28/2009, -1/+6Have you not seen their salary for the past decade? While they have been unsuccessful from buying a championship in a while they have not stopped trying. Each year they shell out more and more money and buy more and more all-stars to shore up their roster. Personally I'm rooting for the Phillies for two reasons; I'm a Red Sox fan and I'm a baseball fan.
- immatellyouwhat, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5Who hates Boston?
<-------THIS GUY! - brainboy7777, on 10/28/2009, -0/+5Bosox fans. Then eagles.
- garlicdog, on 10/28/2009, -1/+6In the last ten years there's been greater parity (in terms of world series winners/playoff appearances) in baseball than the salary capped NFL and NBA. This is pretty remarkable when you consider that MLB actually has less teams even making the playoffs than the NFL or NBA.
- PunkFenixJT, on 10/28/2009, -1/+6Actually I think Red Sox nation is more full of bandwagon fans.
And on that note...where did all the Rays fans of last year go ? - Arrestedevelopr, on 10/28/2009, -2/+6Yankees fans breakdown
40% - New Yorkers
60% - All the D-bag/Posers of the world - c010rb1indusa, on 10/27/2009, -4/+8It has more to do with the fact that the Yanks play in NY. Texeira could of went to the BoSox or stayed with the Angels, they pretty much offered him the same amount of money, but he chose the Yanks because he wanted to play in New York, a salary cap won't stop this from happening with other players.
- DjOverEZ, on 10/28/2009, -8/+11Is there a possibility for both teams to lose?
- badenglishihave, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Sadly you're right. As a 23 year old life-long Sox fan, I have observed a huge increase in the number of fans since they won the series back in '04.
- garlicdog, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3Compared to the NBA: Lakers and Spurs have played in 10 of the last 11 NBA finals and have won 8.
Compared to NFL: Steelers and patriots have played in 6 of the last 10 superbowls and have won all 6. - blahzach, on 10/28/2009, -0/+3I remember the thousands of NY "fans" I used to see. '04 happens and they throw the NY hat in the closet and become RSN fans. As a lifelong Yankee fan I was glad to see them go, but I hate talking to them. At least the true Red Sox fans I respect.
- dscan, on 10/28/2009, -4/+6GO PHILS!
- JQP123, on 10/28/2009, -1/+3"In the last ten years there's been greater parity..."
But that's not really true is it?
Going back to 1999, baseball's highest paid team, the Yankees, have played in the world series 4 times and won it twice. Baseball's second highest paid team, the Boston Red Sox have played in the world series twice and won it both times.
So really, in the last ten years, baseball's 2 highest paid teams have appeared in 60% of the World Series and won 40%.
Parity? I don't see it. - blahzach, on 10/28/2009, -0/+2I agree with that everyone tries to buy up all the talent. The Yankees and Red Sox have a cold war and both teams are trying to one up the other. It's like the Star Wars Defense system the US had against the Soviets. Also other teams do it too, It's part of baseball.
- brainboy7777, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Hmm, that's great. By the way, how's Big Papi? And Papelbon?
- D1Foley, on 10/27/2009, -11/+12The Yankees are a team everyone loves to hate.
/Boston fan - nori0300, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Stupid Target ad!
- Jojopacho, on 10/28/2009, -4/+5GO PHILLIES!!
/Boston Fan - JQP123, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1"Compared to NFL: Steelers and patriots have played in 6 of the last 10 superbowls and have won all 6."
Does not compute?!?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_NFL_Champi ...
Going back to 1999, the Patriots have appeared in 4 superbowls and won 3. Steelers have appeared in 2 and won 2. These two teams are comparable to the Yankees and Red Sox in baseball.
But longer team, nothing really compares to the Yankees history and for whatever reason, baseball is determined to insure that it continues. . - garlicdog, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1My bad, I forgot about the patriots' loss. In any case it's pretty similar to baseball except that only 8 teams make the playoffs in baseball while 12 teams make the playoffs in the NFL and 16 teams make it in NBA.
Including most of the Yankees' championships in the argument for salary capping is nonsense because they've only won 5 world series since the beginning of free agency (1975) and their payroll didn't start eclipsing other teams until 2003-2004 since which time they haven't won the world series or even appeared in it until this year (if you start with 2004). - garlicdog, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1lol? The link below has the team by team salaries for 2002 (and you can change which year you view in a dropdown box). You'll want to look over your numbers again.
BTW: You don't have to look far to see when the Yankees weren't the highest paid team in baseball. It was back in 1998.
http://content.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salari ... - nostradumass, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1and also boo Santa Claus ...
- BlueSun420, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1Yeah that's why the New York Knicks are so good even though the NBA has a salary cap. Oh wait...
- JQP123, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1"... their payroll didn't start eclipsing other teams until 2003-2004"
Do you just make this stuff up as you go along?
In 2002, the Yankees salary was $171 million. This year it is just over $200 million. The *average* MLB team this year is around $85 million.
The Yankees have been by far the highest paid team in baseball since ... I don't know, probably forever. And they have the championships to go along with it. - c010rb1indusa, on 10/28/2009, -0/+1actually stubear, their payroll was lower this year than last year
- jasonbeinstein, on 10/28/2009, -1/+2Being a big Yankees fan and a hater of Philly due to my college years at University of Delaware and the exposure to wayyy too many Philadelphia sports fans. I too thought this was a clever and great remix. My old roomate from Philly passed it along to me last week and I was happy to spread it along. The thing about being a Yankees fan is that the animosity for other teams we go up against is nothing compared to the hatred that we receive from just about every sports fan just for being the best franchise of all time. It's fun for people to root against the favorite.
BTW Yanks in 6, see you all down in the Canyon of Heroes. - JQP123, on 10/28/2009, -1/+1"... but he chose the Yanks because he wanted to play in New York, a salary cap won't stop this from happening with other players."
So you're saying that players pick New York not for the salary but because they like the city?
That's laughable. So why do they pay out so much in salary if they don't have to?
The real reason the Yankees haven't won more World Series in recent years is *because* a lot of their players on the field don't really like the Yankees either ... they're in New York solely for the money. - jfrederick10, on 11/04/2009, -0/+0Do you really think Yankee fans hate philly fans? I'm pretty sure all the hate is reserved for the Red Sox and the Eagles.
- Spoomeister, on 10/28/2009, -2/+2I was at a Mariners game earlier this year when the Red Sox were in town. Given that the Ms haven't been too great the last few years, and this is the only place for displaced Northeast fans to see the Red Sox, the place was pretty much Fenway Park West.
After a good 6 innings of competing chants of "Let's-Go-RED-Sox" and "Let's-Go-MAR-iners", the left field bleachers finally settled on the only thing everyone could agree on: "YANK-EES SUCK! YANK-EES SUCK! YANK-EES SUCK!" - twiztidsinz, on 10/27/2009, -3/+2I don't even like baseball and I hate the Yankees!
(I do enjoy going to games but it's the going to the stadium and watching the game live that I enjoy, or playing baseball with friends) - inactive, on 10/28/2009, -5/+4The Phillies Payroll is $113 million. Yankees is $200. Saying a team spends too much money on players is an insult to your own team. This means your team isn't good enough or popular enough to MAKE enough money to get better players. That's like Apple complaining that Microsoft has too many users. There are no salary caps so stop complaining. If there were salary caps players would want to play for the Yankees just as they want to play for the Patriots in the NFL.
- jabuck, on 10/28/2009, -2/+1thats not everybody.
- mdnash, on 10/28/2009, -3/+1mets are great?
- shadowspawn, on 10/28/2009, -4/+1Phils? PHILS FANS? A butcher of grammar who just got published. Damn newb.
PHILS FANS. Yea. Go back to your backwater community college, dude. - stubear, on 10/28/2009, -7/+4"Yankees are a Team Every Baseball Fan Loves to Hate (even some Yankees fans)"
There, fixed it. -
