Yankees Bury Bernie Williams Under New Stadium For Good Luck
theonion.com — The burial ceremony, which delayed the completion of the stadium approximately three weeks and cost roughly $1.5 million —$1,000 of which will go to Bernie Williams' family—involved placing Williams into a six-foot-deep concrete hole directly where the tattered Red Sox jersey was found.

- sgtbutterscotch, on 04/17/2008, -14/+3Everyone, do yourselves a favor and stop reading any other comments right now. They're all ***** and their submitters don't realize is this story sounds exactly like something Hank Steinbrenner would do and that it's a delicious twist on a current event, which sadly enough, I think got less diggs than this.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1someone is good = sterods? Arod has never displayed the muscle gain or side effects related to steroid grow. His power number have been in a perfectly normal grow pattern, his strike out and ground ball rates are normal also. his career weight has been steady most part, last year he reduced his weight and hit for more power. his hitting is base on bat speed (that's why he strikes out an above average amount), and timing (that how he keeps balls that pulled so hard form going foul). Steroid users normally see a gaining in the weight and power as well as contact rates (because the bat speed is built up later in their swing they have more control), and a loss of speed. they also have increased health problem. arod doesn't have any of these symoptons
- cledford, on 04/17/2008, -39/+4that seems gross to me...
- FeartheKnighted, on 04/17/2008, -8/+24Maybe because it's a freaking Onion article.
- zyl0x, on 04/17/2008, -58/+10Buried because a) no comments, b) 30 diggs, and c) the onion. Man.. they're just not that funny.
- troyfoley, on 04/17/2008, -1/+2epic fail.
- RipThe5y5tem, on 04/17/2008, -34/+6I wouldn't be surprised if they buried $100 million under the stadium or good luck.
- jc7012, on 04/17/2008, -9/+3How does one bury good luck?
- enclaved, on 04/17/2008, -6/+3I might be assuming too much, but I believe he meant 'for' good luck since the Yankees have a reputation for purchasing their success.

- Zihuatanejo, on 04/17/2008, -22/+7"Now, we're not necessarily hoping that having him in the foundation will mean our outfielders will start throwing like Bernie"
I should hope not, Bernie's weak arm was the only flaw in his game. Hilarious nonetheless. - daveluke1, on 04/17/2008, -29/+2How do you report this as possibly inaccurate.

- troycott, on 04/17/2008, -21/+4wow that's kinda ***** up
- namelessXsilent, on 04/17/2008, -21/+3i started reading it as if they meant his jersey was getting buried, then i realized they were talking about Bernie Williams himself. Then i realized i was reading TheOnion
- Striff, on 04/17/2008, -25/+3If the Yankees really want to win another world series they need to bury Steinbrenner and Cashman instead.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1leave cashman alone he has to deal with craze owners and the media already
- briansearles, on 04/17/2008, -24/+2Digg me down!
- Stemnin, on 04/17/2008, -9/+1HOW IT'S UNPOSSIBLE?!
- RRunner316, on 04/17/2008, -24/+3I ***** Wiki'd him to see what his date of his death was and how in the hell I could've missed this on ESPN. Thanks Onion...
- fredgarvin1138, on 04/17/2008, -19/+2Yea! A "Bury all comments" thread!!
- edwartica, on 04/17/2008, -5/+4Pretty fitting, considering the article in question is about burying some baseball player.
- Olympian83, on 04/17/2008, -19/+0If Wes Helms can still play in Florida, if Julio Franco could play last year as a pinch hitter, Bernie can certainly back-up on a number of teams (and he's over a decade younger). His last season in 06 was a good one. I'm a yankee hater, but he'd be great in the Phil's outfield right now with Victorino out for a few games.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1people age fast he doesn't have the rage to play center, and his bat would be replacement level in a conner outfield spot. you would be better off with Kenny Lofton
- m4lomb, on 04/17/2008, -18/+2Can the bury G.W.Bush under the whitehouse too for good luck? Now? Pleaaase!
- edwartica, on 04/17/2008, -4/+2I think that would have the opposite effect.
- petemcfraser, on 04/17/2008, -21/+5Burying all these comments won't put the hex back on the Yankees!
- edwartica, on 04/17/2008, -5/+3Some of us don't believe in fairy tales such as "hexes."
- wsuvtx, on 04/17/2008, -24/+3Who cares about the Yankees? As long as they have A-Rod they will not be relevant.
Furthermore who cares about New York? I am so sick and tired of hearing about New York City, especially the Yankees.- idiggitall, on 04/17/2008, -9/+6New York City = Center of the World.
It's in the bible....check it out. - HelloNavi, on 04/17/2008, -8/+2You're just jealous because you live in washington, and seattle is just a raint wannabe new york.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/17/2008, -2/+1how does one of the best players in baseball mack them not be relevant? you can hate his personality be he is a great ballplayer
- wsuvtx, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I agree that he is one of the best players, however, for him to play on your team is at the expense of the rest of the team. Texas still has not recovered. If he actually cared about the teams he was playing on he would play for less money so the team could afford to build around him. If it was only about his talent, then yes hands down I think he is the best player right now.
But the main thing is that I am tired of the Yankees and NY. Just as I am tired of the Cowboys. Notre Dame. Etc. There are other teams in the world of sports.- jackalsclaw, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1all baseball teams make a lot of money, should the owners get it all (like the marlins most of the time)? texas is still recovering from Signing Chan Ho Park, trading away Chris young and Adrian Gonzalez , trading for Brad Wilkerson , even trading sammy sosa. The rangers haven't made the best moves. Arod did what they wanted him to do it was the rest that didn't live up and cause them to fail.

http://thenyyankeeshater.blogspot.com/ - olbap, on 04/17/2008, -23/+1Wow. This is what has become of America. Superstition rules the day. Totally. Sad. And. Pathetic.
- mirunit, on 04/17/2008, -7/+5Wow.... This is "fake news", way to go.
- darny, on 04/17/2008, -23/+7I hate being negative, but I'm getting tired of the onion. They need to break out of what they've been serving up and give us something new.

- edwartica, on 04/17/2008, -19/+2Who's Bernie Williams? Did they dig up his bones from another grave or something? That's kind of morbid.
- Machters, on 04/17/2008, -6/+1i hope you are saying that sarcastically....!! if not you are damn stupid!!!!! and im not a yankees fan
- edwartica, on 04/17/2008, -4/+1I did read the article. Honestly, I had no idea who he was before the article (not a baseball fan, sorry), but yes, I was indeed being sarcastic. Obviously the IQ of the average digger who likes sports is lower than the IQ required to get sarcasm.
- Machters, on 04/17/2008, -6/+1i hope you are saying that sarcastically....!! if not you are damn stupid!!!!! and im not a yankees fan

- btraxx, on 04/17/2008, -22/+9The burying of comments actually makes sense with this article.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CqpEacxdS0 - mal1964, on 04/17/2008, -16/+2"On July 28, 1991, Yankee center fielder Bernie Williams was victimized by 6.06(a) when leading off in the bottom of the third inning against the Angels. Bernie bunted a ball foul and was ruled out by ump Ken Kaiser for making contact with a foot on the ground outside the batter's box."
Looks like he learned his lesson. - poploserdigg, on 04/17/2008, -15/+1Burying everything? OMG DIGG USERS ARE SO FUNNY!!
