- Schralpy, on 03/27/2009, -1/+12My dad used to have tons of retardedly valuable baseball cards, Willie Mays, Joe Dimaggio, etc. He moved out and my grandmother just threw them out, not knowing their value. He still cries about it to this day.
- thescimitar, on 03/27/2009, -0/+7I think it's from the latin roots for left and right: sinister and dexter. The left hand was synonymous with ill-omens. Being left-handed was considered a curse, and even until recently, some families forced their left-handed children to learn to write with their right hand (my grand-parents did this to my mother, so it's that recent)!
I would assume that it sort of follows that if you are to lose an appendage... or nut, as the case may be, it's better to lose the cursed one. - GeekNurse, on 03/27/2009, -1/+8Pffft.... My mother gave all my Thundercats action figures, still mint-in-box, to charity when I went to summer camp. She said that because I never opened them she thought I didn't want to play with them.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -0/+5For her? 100%.
- Jhiaxuz, on 03/27/2009, -1/+6*****, and to think some of us just got excited for the rock-hard gum.
- Smokeydabear, on 03/27/2009, -1/+6I never collected baseball cards that much, so I didn't have to worry about my mother throwing away valuable ones. What she did do was sell some of my first edition Stephen King books at a ***** yard sale. A teacher gave them to me while in high school. Included in the books was a non-book club first edition of The Stand, complete with dust jacket.
- TjLAXattack, on 03/27/2009, -0/+4Was that before or after you decided to ignore your 3 friends' advice and ask out the lady who works at the "We Sell Your Stuff on eBay" Store?
- jeremyduffy, on 03/27/2009, -0/+4As he should. That is tragic.
- ghostofpanty, on 03/27/2009, -0/+4well money is just paper with ink on it too. and these cards have real financial value.. and baseball is the american past time. ;)
- aparatoc, on 03/27/2009, -0/+4Why always the left nut.. why not the right one?
- Moonman13, on 03/27/2009, -0/+4Some of these are more expensive then a frozen Woolly Mammoth.
- GeekNurse, on 03/27/2009, -0/+428, thank you very much.
- Schralpy, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3No chance, alas Griffey never fully turned into the player he could have been, much to my chagrin as a Reds fan. Years of watching him get hurt is still painful.
I think that card is going for about $5 on Ebay right now, though it'll probably get more valuable when/if he gets elected to the HOF. Save it for your kids. - GeekNurse, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3Not if they already owned the card. You just made theirs more valuable.
- IKORKYI, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3how many millions of dollars have been thrown away, ruined, or ignored because no one knew it was worth something.
- Smokeydabear, on 03/27/2009, -1/+4@ TjKaxattack: Pfft, obviously it was before, he stopped living with his mother when he was 30.
- Jhiaxuz, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3I think this is a case where it may require both and a kidney.
- lornefs, on 03/27/2009, -0/+3Some people have too much money.
- magnus3d, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2I had a huge collection of basketball and baseball cards from the 70's 80's n 90's I got given. Until I discovered how cool matches were. No regrets, the fires were awesome.
- EMGroup, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2I remember baseball and basketball cards were very popular in the late 90s. I didn't know people still collected this stuff.
- riverstyx, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2I used to be a collector back when I was a kid too. I remember I bought marc mcguires rookie card for 10 bucks by shoveling snow for a week..Too bad the scandal ruined the value, at one point those cards were worth a lot. I wouldve loved to have a ricky henderson rookie.
The most valuable things I ever had (I think) was inheriting a shoebox full of Wacky Packages from the 1970's from my dad. They were the ones with the tan backings and printed on really thin paper. I checked the most valuable list and I had a significant amount of the rare ones.
I also had most of the complete series of garbage pail kids..Ah, those were the days.. - jeremyduffy, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2You really think it's fun to make others unhappy for no reason?
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2Oh yea? I got a rookie card of Dennis Rodman
- magnus3d, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2Some people have no life.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -0/+23million for a card = More money then brains.
- boozedrinker, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2it says World's Most Expensive Baseball Cards in Pictures...
I'm like - where the ***** are the pictures?! I HATE clicking around to find that *****. - mordeci, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2need it, got it, got it, need it, got it, . . .
- eatupmartha, on 03/27/2009, -1/+3Not having the career numbers due to injuries should not overshadow that fact that he is probably the best baseball player we will see in our time.
- MewtwoReturns, on 03/27/2009, -0/+2This isn't diggworthy.
If she had listed the card at $9.99 Buy it Now, someone bought it, and then resold it for six figures, THAT would be a diggworthy story. - lornefs, on 03/27/2009, -0/+250/50. It will happen or it won't.
/s - inactive, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1source: the ***** article you idiot, this just goes to show you didn't even read the article. BURIED.
- firstyear7d, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2i found this one in my attic...$200,000?
http://dailysportscard.com/content/1989-fleer-ken- ... - TwizzleNicole, on 08/04/2009, -0/+1love it!
- Schralpy, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2...who didn't take steroids.
- TwizzleNicole, on 08/04/2009, -0/+1Those are some proper expensive cards! most people could only dream of that kind of money...... hmmm better go and get a lottery ticket today!
- yohnstoppable, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2I thought this, and porn, was the reason the internet was created
- Breezeonhold, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2Lucky man lol!
- latenightlab, on 03/27/2009, -1/+2Christ, that is like hitting the lottery. What are the odds?
- mshinska, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1This card is not from an unknown team. The uniform Ty Cobb has on is the iconic old english D that has always represented the Detroit Tigers.
- sellandprofit, on 03/26/2009, -1/+2If only I could find something like that in my attic......
- cawpin, on 03/28/2009, -2/+2@eatup - Not even close.
- CardSeeker, on 06/03/2009, -0/+0$2.8 Million for a piece of cardboard, gotta love it. 2nd most expensive is another Wagner at just under a million: http://www.vintagecardprices.com/free-top-baseball ...

- Vaasman, on 03/27/2009, -1/+0I'd do it for the lulz, duh.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -3/+1It's an old piece of cardboard with ink on it. Why do people spend so much on sentiment?
- shoppingkart, on 03/27/2009, -6/+4My pokemon bring all the geeks to the yard,
And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?"
Damn right, yeah sure I'll trade cards
I'll trade evra thin' but not my Charizard! - Vaasman, on 03/27/2009, -6/+1If I had the money I would totally buy that just to turn around and set the card on fire and post it online.
Imagine how many collectors' heads would explode. - ali107861, on 03/27/2009, -5/+0$300,000? Hell no. In 1991, Wayne Gretzky bought a Honus Wagner T206 for $500,000, later selling it for 2.8 million. (source: wiki Wayne Gretzky)
