"Use what you learned in this article to dominate at Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '07"
Is this a new trend in fantasy baseball? Machetes and attempted murder? - Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The innuendo you're looking for is "catching"
- midejitsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Absolutely. I expect my pitching staff to dominate this year, having stocked up on players with great projected performances in both Grievous Bodily Harm and Run-ins With The Law. Unfortunately you need to play in Yahoo! Pro leagues to unlock these scoring categories.
- dmason, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Good. What he did was horrible. I hope he gets 14 "solid" years in pmita prison. Don't let him out until 2021.
- vagrantwade, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I think we are all missing the real lesson of this story.
Stay the F*** out of Venezuela.
And a little FYI for those who don't follow baseball or Urbina at all. I believe it was his mother who about 2 years ago was kidnapped in Venezuela and held for ransom. And I believe what happened in this story was that his family's land was being attacked and they were trying to defend it. - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I just don't buy it. I really don't think the guy did what he is accused of."
Right. And Michael Jackson is just too talented a guy to do stuff to young boys.
Funny thing... I worked in Lorton Reformatory (for Wash DC) for ten years, and just like those nice guys in Shawshank Redemption, none of them "did it".
Justice, they call it... Just Us. A miscarriage of justice. - Dou6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Looking into these things is exactly why I think this was all a setup. For all the corruption we have in the U.S., I don't think people understand how corrupt many governments in south america are. If I was urbina, I would have never gone back to Venezuela again, and got my family the F out of there.
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll bet he get's traded a few times in prison. For cigarettes. For cornbread. For toilet paper.
- anar1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't the punishment a little bit to BIG for a murder attempt?
- R34C7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The information on this case is so terrificly vague that anyone who makes any assertions to the guilt of this man are surely speaking out of their asses. I can only hope that the legal system made the best use of evidence available and didn't throw an innocent man in jail for a career ending amount of time.
- BigPapi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree. It doesn't even mention the fact that Urbina's mother was kidnapped and held for ransom. Maybe Urbina discovered that some of the workers were involved with the kidnapping? Or maybe he didn't do anything at all. This article doesn't go into many details.
- Br0wn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OJ my friend, he wouldn't do that.
- nutsackninja, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Instead of pitching, he is going to be doing some receiving :)
- pixelate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"THER were swimming in HIS pool"
get out of our gene pool. - carltonsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15 murder attempts
- orvtech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3you hit the nail, for that sort of things is why many of us Venezuelans are migrating to Europe (those who have families there or euro passport) and the rest of us come to the US or Colombia.

Damn and I thought the Phillies were going to resign him out of jail to help their bullpen! - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll give you five to one it would be great for ratings.
- Dou6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just don't buy it. I really don't think the guy did what he is accused of.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i was at a sox game when he pitched once...zomfg i almost died!

http://dir.paramegsoft.com - bobcorrigan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's all part of a vast conspiracy to convict former baseball players, throw them in Venezuelan prison, then stage "games" between the prisoners and the guards for the amusement of the president.
All of which will serve as the basis for a movie, "La Salida Más Larga" (The Longest Out). - Scottypants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Urbina Mafia....We'll try to kill you, but fail miserably!
- drmobutu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I do. There's a BIG class division in many Latin American countries. The upper classes treat the peons like sh!t, and are rarely held accountable. Sure, maybe he just poured the gasoline on them to scare them, but that kind of brutality is, sadly, all too typical.
That being said, Urbina's probably only being prosecuted because, in many Venezuelan's eyes, he's a "rich gringo", and busting him makes Chavez look good, to the peons.
If he was in Brazil, Mexico or Colombia, he probably would have gotten away with it... - mulberryx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i thought this line was interesting:
"Use what you learned in this article to dominate at Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '07"
I'll make sure and leave Ugueth off my draft list... thanks, yahoo sports - ash1402, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone know how long the other guys involved got?
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ahahahah!! Well played Sir, well played indeed.
- billsandhill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I guess Ugueth what U deserve....
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3+1 for the Office Space reference.
- anotherdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You forgot the gasoline part. With that, yes that is what it means.
- h2g242, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I saw on Comcast Sports Net a while back the interview they did with Urbina in the Jail Cell he was in right after his arrest. It all really looked pretty shoddy, and given the government system down there who can say how professionally everything was handled. Even here in America they lock people up for 10 years just to realize they made a mistake. Maybe it's because I'm such a die hard Broad Street Brawlers fan, and our bullpen has more holes than swiss cheese, but I mean, THER were swimming in HIS pool.
wish i had a pool... - anotherdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0He'd probably still qualify as bullpen relief for the Phillies
- orvtech, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3so i guess he will see freedom at the same time that the Venezuelans will. chanvez has anounced that he will be 'president' till 2021
- Lasander, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Fourteen years for attempted murder and yet other people get two hundred years for child pornography.
Justice sure is blind alright and not in the good way...
