- McGuinness, on 07/06/2009, -0/+23Dear Ricketts family,
Please send Bradley to Triple A. I mean, the ball hit him in the head this weekend. No really, I was there.
It hit him in the head. - MisterEX, on 07/06/2009, -3/+15And... we're still gonna suck.
- boozedrinker, on 07/06/2009, -0/+11These people BETTER NOT rename Wrigley.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Macy's bought Marshal Fields - people still call it Marshal Fields
Willis bought the Sears Tower - people will still call it the Sears Tower
You can try to name it Rickett's Field - but people will still call it Wrigley Field
Some things should never be changed. - malonie, on 07/06/2009, -1/+9Good luck cubs!
signed,
unhappy met fan - centran, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7or they could be the founder of one of the top online trading firms(ameritrade).
- RiotHeart, on 07/06/2009, -2/+8Why didnt you just let the goat in?
- cubs0110, on 07/06/2009, -4/+10As a Cubs fan.....
FINA-*****-LLY - 3tcp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6I'm not a cubs fanboy (my user icon is bernie brewer) but I think it would be a crime against baseball to rename Wrigley Field. It's just too legendary. That would be like renaming Lambeau Field or Madison Square Garden.
- smackydoodle, on 07/06/2009, -3/+8And then after the Sox game, you go back to your car (if you don't get murdered first) and find that your wheels are missing.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -2/+6hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahha
<inhale>
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahaha - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4.... They better not ***** with the field
- centran, on 07/06/2009, -3/+7ahhhh... did someone have a bad adventure in boys town? Just remember dude, if he sucked your dick then that doesn't mean you're gay.
- cubs0110, on 07/06/2009, -3/+7It doesn't change the fact that the Sox are Chicago's #2 team.
(Maybe #3, the Cougars are catching up!) - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5Used a lot of brain power for that post. /s
- nsdjoe, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5cubs0110 no one is denying that the cubs draw more fans per year (last year the sox drew about 75% as many as the cubs). Partially due to the Cubs larger presence on WGN and partially due to the gentrification and trendiness of Wrigleyville and the near-north side, the Cubs are the default team. If someone cares little for baseball, they're a de facto cubs fan.
Out and about around Chicago I see just as much Sox paraphernalia worn as cubs stuff so I'd argue the number of "hardcore" or "diehard" fans is much closer to parity.
Your earlier comment "no one likes the Sox" is patently stupid and makes you sound like a troll. - 3tcp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4You'll have to give it a few seasons to find out. Their current roster isn't exactly World Series caliber.
- centran, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4More like they would try to call it TD Ameritrade park. However, since they are making it seem like the family is buying it then maybe that won't happen but it could all be a front.
They can name it whatever they want but they cannot take down or change the score board or the Wrigley sign in the front as those are historical landmarks. So they can change the name but it will always say Wrigley Field. - cubs0110, on 07/06/2009, -4/+7I see you're angry about being the second team in Chicago.
- thcobbs, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Oh, they can... because the Park will be named after whatever they want, but the actual grass and stadium will still be Wrigley Field.
Happens all the time with college football too. - smackydoodle, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Their manager even said they were the step-children of Chicago.
- SDM187, on 07/06/2009, -2/+5So you go to the ballpark to cheer for your... fans? that sounds like so much fun. here i thought i was going to cheer for my team kicking the other team's ass, but no, it's all about how many ppl u can get in the park dude, that's where the real fun is!
- nsdjoe, on 07/06/2009, -2/+5Congrats on winning the attendance trophy. Congrats on tickets being more expensive and harder to come by.
Especially congrats on not actually winning anything in 101 years. - awtripp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Cubs need to ditch Alfonso Soriano. His OBP this year is .290. Seriously. That's ***** bad. Eating up way too much salary. And who idea was it to sign that spaz Milton Bradley? I guess he fits right in with the other water cooler devastator Carlos Zambrano.
- STBAT25, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I don't even think he deserves to play at Triple A, maybe A. I know it's a waste of money but that ***** isn't helping anybody now. Just about anybody on the bench would be better than him and they wouldn't cause as many distractions.
- Asten77, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Now, now. It's October now.
- cubs0110, on 07/06/2009, -5/+7Or not, since the Sox still don't have half the fans that the Cubs do.
- fxmulder, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2Bradley is bush league. Put him on waivers; take the hit, and get a good player from the farm clubs. He has to play just as well and be grateful to be a major leaguer. Sure couldn't be any worse.
- warbrain, on 07/06/2009, -6/+8The comments made me laugh.
Especially the one about the White Sox being a "junior" team.
Guess someone forgot 2005. - 3tcp, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I would agree with you if those components weren't playing so poorly this season.
- cubs0110, on 07/06/2009, -5/+7That doesn't mean you have even half the amount of fans as the Cubs though.
No one likes the Sox. - jrm125, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Curse lifted?
News pending... - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Yes , that's called being a fair-weather fan
- mongo25, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I guess that makes the White Sox a $600 million hillbilly bar. Mullets and wannabe Irish Green hats for the win!
- tj007s13, on 07/06/2009, -2/+4101 years must be the magic year!
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I just hope this gives them enough time to make a trade or two in a market that is saturated with quality players that will cost a little more. I hear Bobby Jenks is on the trading block. That would be nice to have a strong closer and take away a player from the sox.
- Lucas123, on 07/06/2009, -2/+4As a Red Sox fan, I can sincerely say that I hope this turns that organization around. It's high time they win a World Series!
- cawpin, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Actually, since it is a national landmark, they can't change the name, let alone take down the sign, without Congressional approval.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -3/+4said the burger king employee!
- Coven, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2They could call it "Wrigley Field at Ameritrade Stadium" or something like that.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Yes , that's called being a fair-weather fan
- SolituSneiku, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Is this owner a World Series eager owner that will sign us big stars or assume we don't care about the last 101 years?
- fitokortes, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1eh I dont know about that, I think they have the components to get there as much as any other team in the National League.
- boozedrinker, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Are you a fortune teller? A mystic maybe?
There's no telling what a ***** would do with something after spending close to a billion dollars on it. - KMPvideo, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1couldnt agree more as a Chicagoan
- Asten77, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1In the highly unlikely event they change it, It won't be TD Ameritrade Park. The new College World Series stadium in Omaha will be named TD Ameritrade Park.
- fitokortes, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1they wont
- centran, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1@cawpin
It is not a national landmark. It is only officially eligible to receive that status.
When they started to renovate Wrigley talks went underway as to what they can change. In 2004 the Landmarks committee of the Chicago city council granted landmark status to only certain aspects of Wrigley. This allowed renovation but prohibited changing of the scoreboard, outfield ivy covered wall, the front sign, and a couple other small things.
So due to Chicago laws they cannot change those things but whoever owns it has rights to change the name. -
