- mrshickadance9, on 09/01/2008, -2/+8dugg down. *****.
- mrshickadance9, on 09/01/2008, -0/+6you're not very smart, are you?
- h2g242, on 09/01/2008, -1/+7Jim is just an amazingly nice guy. I'm a philly guy through and through but i wish for nothing but good for Thome wherever he is. Keep up the great work jim!
- chicagog19, on 09/01/2008, -0/+5Cause there are people on digg that care about baseball and DUGG the story.
- KungFooJesus, on 09/01/2008, -1/+5Dugg for not being negative, poorly worded, misleading, or about McBama.
- mrshickadance9, on 09/01/2008, -2/+5why would this post offend us in any way? what does it have to do with the cubs?
- dcmcderm, on 09/01/2008, -0/+2Good for Jim I guess, he has quietly been cranking homers for years and years obviously. But it just doesn't seem like we should be talking about him in the same breath as an immortal like Mantle. They say that 600 is the new 500 so I suppose that hitting 536 homers isn't as impressive now as it was when Mantle did it.
Still it's a huge accomplishment for Thome. To stay relatively healthy and focused over all these years is nothing to sneeze at. Just look at Ken Griffey Jr. If he could have avoided all those lengthy trips to the DL we would be talking about his upcoming 800th dinger right now. - samimnot, on 09/01/2008, -0/+2Way to go Thome...loved ya' when you were with the Tribe. Congrats' on reaching this milestone.
- captainsdead, on 09/01/2008, -1/+3a lot of the baseball media wrote off jim after his last season with philly, but here's to proving em wrong!
- mrshickadance9, on 09/01/2008, -1/+3seeing as how he's pushing 40, i'm guessing his grandma is probably dead.
- CommanderEFG, on 09/01/2008, -1/+3I congratulate Thome immensely. As an Indians fan since I've been born I remember the good old days when Thome still played for use. Congrats Jim!
- elfprince13, on 09/01/2008, -1/+3more about him tying Mickey Mantle.
- mrshickadance9, on 09/01/2008, -0/+1i don't necessarily think thome should be in the HOF either. 600 is the new 500. 500 should not be a lock for the hall anymore. Thome was always a patient hitter, but unspectacular defensively. he also never hit for much average. sure he had some great years and is a fringe player, but he'll have to rack up a few more homers before he can be a lock for the HOF.
- nydwarf, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Jim Thome is no Mickey Mantle.
- mrshickadance9, on 09/01/2008, -4/+5The white sox are a good team but their all or nothing approach will not take them far in october. When they don't hit home runs they have a terrible record.
- TheMarenum, on 09/01/2008, -1/+2Thome is a Cubs fan.
- supernuke, on 09/01/2008, -2/+3Could you do it?
I applaud Thome. He is one of the most underrated players, IMO. - Cheesasaurus, on 09/01/2008, -0/+1He also probably could've beat Roger Maris to 61 home runs, he was hurt so often in his career that his stats are far lower than they should've been.
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -1/+2I've blocked us election news on digg, and somehow Palin ***** still pops up. So dugg for not being about Palin.
- dbXXd, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1It was a battle of the sexes, err, I mean Soxes.... :/
- jakobmakob, on 09/01/2008, -0/+1What? He was arguably the best raw talent of his generation, with stats that were hindered by injuries.
- brsox2445, on 09/01/2008, -1/+2Good for him, i am a Sox (Red) fan but Thome has always seemed like a class act. Plus it pushes Mantle down the rung one more.
- spider-man, on 09/01/2008, -0/+1Same for me. Being an Indian fan I have always liked Thome and was sad when he left the team. Still wish him well and am glad for his continued success
- dan222555, on 09/01/2008, -3/+3I don't know why a pretty ordinary story about baseball made it the front page (Arod's been passing people on the HR list like once a month) but I'm going to Digg it because it's not anti-Palin spam.
- brycelb, on 09/01/2008, -1/+1Not exactly. Mickey Mantel is considered one of the 10 best players in the games history. As recently as last month I heard Bob Costas say he wasn't sure if Thome should be in the Hall of Fame. Makes things kind of interesting if you ask me. 14th place for a guy who gets very little credit is rather amazing if you ask me.
- 9bpm9, on 09/01/2008, -1/+1I'm a huge baseball fan and I couldn't give a damn about a guy who can't play first base and has finally stopped taking steroids tying a switch hitting slugger for the Yankees.
Maybe if Thome could hit homeruns and play a position on the field (which it's proven he can't), maybe I would care. Or if he was tying someone higher than 14th. - DjOverEZ, on 09/01/2008, -2/+2Dugg up for saying "Dugg down for saying 'Dugg for not being about Palin.'"
- Vikaas, on 09/01/2008, -6/+6So this article is really about someone reaching 14th place in career homeruns?
- wolfmann, on 09/01/2008, -5/+3Wow, and I remember hearing about him in his High School years... think he played for Bartonville; well at least it was on the west side of the Illinois River from me (I'm originally from E.Peoria). I wonder if his grandma is still around... she lived a couple blocks away from my house.
- MrCashyCash, on 09/01/2008, -7/+2Mickey Mantle will be a footnote in baseball history.
Way overrated. - 9bpm9, on 09/01/2008, -8/+2Why is this on the front page?
- OfNumbers, on 09/01/2008, -8/+2This post probably offends Cubs fans.
