- NYConcepts, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9That's why they lost.
- iheartcrack, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9Looks like someone is still a little grumpy from that Villanova loss :-(
- pagit, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6money trumps national pride
- EarlOfLade, on 03/29/2009, -4/+9Injured in baseball?
Must be from falling off the bench while sleeping!
Baseball - 100% effective cure for insomnia! - tyne101101, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4They do this for money of course.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4The Onion gets better with every article.
- capriskye, on 03/29/2009, -2/+6thats true, because you can only get injured playing in WBC
- Kruse, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4I get it.
- amabaie, on 03/29/2009, -3/+6Pride is good. So is money. So are some other things.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+3Word. Exactly what I was thinking...
- bearcat8543, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2actually the winner of the WBC gets a large prize bonus in cash
- bduddy, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3There is actually prize money, but of course it's pocket change to the overpaid US players.
- diggdiggerid, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3You're a dumbass. Re-read my post. Olympians are the ONLY ones who should be proud in the Olympics is my point, NOT the people just sitting there shoving chips in the fat mouths watching them.
- vagrantwade, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Yes it is.
- diceau, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Yeah I skimmed the heading thinking "Wow, they must've really sucked on the world stage ... guess it'd be good to go home and play for money again."

"... Bravo, Onion." - RatatRatR, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Yep, if it's all you care about, it must be all anyone cares about.
- bduddy, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Spring training is so lame. What player wants to risk a career-ending injury?
- foxthesly, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1I take it you don't like the Olympics then?
- sp89, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Where have you been?
- vagrantwade, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1You are comparing the Olympics to the WBC? The WBC that has only been held twice?
- yohnstoppable, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1With enough money you could buy a pride of lions, so I'd say money is more valuable.
- mastercosby, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Ha ha they almost got me. I guess cause its been a while since I have seen an onion article on the front page.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Your argument that nationalism is the product of lazy people who've done nothing with their lives can be applied to any sports where fans invest themselves in the play of a team or player. It's also very naive. Many fans of any team are also employed. You know how I know that? Because of the massive amounts of revenue generated by the sale of tickets and merchandise sold by leagues like the NFL, MLB, NHL, etc... every year. Your stereotype that every fan is a fat, lazy and living vicariously through his team is moronic. There's no doubt that people like that exist, but there are also doctors, lawyers, soldiers, professors, firemen, and people from all different professions and walks of life who are also die hard fans of any given team. Being a fan is, for most people, not what defines their life and your belief that it does just shows how little you've lived.
- vagrantwade, on 03/29/2009, -4/+4Why is it that people outside the US don't understand. They need to stop ***** comparing Baseball to Soccer. America is not Europe. We are not a bunch of tiny countries smashed together. The teams across the United States is our Euro Cup. The MLB consists of players from a huge number of different countries.
The WBC is new. The only people who even know it exists are big baseball fans or people who caught mention of it on the news. The players not only have contractual obligations to these teams, but they have obligations to their fans. As a Twins fan, if Justin Morneau would have gotten hurt playing in the WBC I would have ***** rioted. The WBC is RIGHT BEFORE the start of the MLB season. And the MLB season is long.
I guarantee the only people who are clamoring about this "no pride" *****, are either not baseball fans, or are just foreigners who like to talk ***** about America because they have to wait an extra month to get the good video games. Guarantee. - Robbothehood, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1Europe isn't a bunch of tiny countries smashed together either.
- Zapita, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1b!tch!
- RatatRatR, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1"The teams across the United States is our Euro Cup"??
- chill613, on 03/29/2009, -2/+1lol baseball, men in spandex that don't even hit eachother during normal play, lets talk about a real sport
- taibo, on 03/30/2009, -1/+0The Japanese players had contractual obligations too, didn't stop them. The WBC being 'new' doesn't automatically make foreign teams play better.
Team USA just plain sucked this year. - PacmanMafia, on 03/29/2009, -2/+1***** it! Just promise a bonus for every win! Throwing money around is nothing new for America! AIG took one for the team (Wallstreet) and that is what part of baseball is about right? Taking one for the team.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -3/+1So every Olympian is lazy?
- jakswa, on 03/29/2009, -4/+1http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs027 ...
- tyne101101, on 03/29/2009, -5/+2Also I can careless about the made-up (World Baseball Classic) event because this event is taking place before the season started. All everyone cares about is March Madness. End of story.
- PittPanthersFan, on 03/29/2009, -8/+3Duh. The WBC is so lame. What player wants to risk a career-ending injury?
- diggdiggerid, on 03/29/2009, -10/+4there is no such thing as "national" pride. that's a concept used by people who are too lazy to do something with their own lives so they say they are proud of things OTHER people did who live in the same country as them. individual pride, absolutely, if they win they should be proud, but I'm not going to go around saying "we won" or "my team won" like I had a damn thing to do with it or deserve some credit for it.

What is Digg?
