- asgardshill, on 01/23/2009, -0/+17There's no law that says that general managers must always kiss J. Random Websurfer's ass in every situation. But having said that, its not smart to bite the hand that feeds (i.e. buys the game tickets, hot dogs, and merchandise) you.
- timpoke8, on 01/23/2009, -0/+8You know, these doom and gloom comments would make more sense if STL didn't have a top ten ranked farm system according to Baseball America...maybe not mortgaging the team for a bunch of overpriced, bad free agents is the right move.
- realpolitik, on 01/23/2009, -0/+5Is it just me or did his responses make absolutely no sense?
- econoar, on 01/23/2009, -2/+7Us Cardinal fans should be a bit angry. New stadium, higher prices, attendance is still very high, but we aren't spending the money on anything new.
- serif69, on 01/23/2009, -1/+5Where's pr0FF3ss0r_F4rnsw0rth?
- troub, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4I live in St. Louis, go to a lot of games, and from time to time visit the forum where this chat took place (the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website). There are some whiners on that site who are horrible venomous cretins (the same as any other site). These aren't the people who fill the stadium and buy merchandise, and he knows that. I thought his responses were remarkably human and honest reactions to idiots who aren't asking real questions or expecting a real answer anyway.
These are the people who say "worst move ever" when we get a Mark Mulder for millions and he turns out to be a dud, then bitch about lack of free agent activity when the odds are low and we have some great kids in the farm system. Then it's awesome when the kids turn great (Pujols), and they were "mismanaged" when they dud or flame out (Ankiel). No pleasing these people, and I though it was awesome that Mozeliak basically just told them to ***** off. - ThatGeek, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3at least the cards are halfway decent
not like my pitiful redlegs - serif69, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Actually, he does show up in the Dugout version:
http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2009/01/22/the-dugout-john ... - supersickie, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Pujols isn't going anywhere. The Cardinals will let Pujols go the same day the Cubs let... wait... this metaphor is going to work for Cubs fans, is it?
- FreddieD, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3If I were a Cubs fan, I'd worry less about what the Cardinals are doing and more about why my team hasn't won anything in one hundred years.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -1/+4they left out the part where Mozeliak started out posting with: "A/S/L WANNA CYBER?"
- Jbone1986, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2I agree that this off season has been pretty *****. However, the cards still have the best player in baseball period. As for the comment stating the golden age of STL sports has passed.... we are only 2 years removed from a world series championship and 3 years removed from having the best record in the NL... Come on now
- darthfergie, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Everyone is in a wait and see mode on the economy. Get over it. There are tons of free agents out there just sitting at home right now and the phone ain't gonna ring for them. Budget constraints all across the MLB (with the notable exception of the Yanks) are all tight.
- heynow21, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Is Englsh his first language? He comes across as mildly retarded.
- Fixhotep, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2No one could have predicted Ankiel. During his rookie year, I recall Peter Gammons saying he already had the best command of his pitches of any player in baseball save Maddox. Then the playoffs happened. Absolutely no one can predict what happened. Besides, he turned out to be a half-decent hitter.
- LloydBentsen, on 01/24/2009, -0/+2Reminds me of Manager's Corner with Earl Weaver (NSFW [Language]) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWQbN0jFo_k
- mlvassallo, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3Stay classy St. Louis.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Agreed. IMHO the golden age of STL sports has passed.
- Raiu, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2Fact: you hang out with idiots
Solution: find smarter friends - BinaryDelt, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Good news everyone!
- darthfergie, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Why the heck didn't they used moderated chat stuff like ESPN uses when they talk to GMs? Makes PR a hell of a lot easier.
- Tegurit34, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1That is awesome on so many levels. I love Earl Weaver.
- SirBruce, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1I won't say Pujols will NEVER leave the Cardinals... anything can happen, Nomar left Boston... but it's very unlikely. But they really do need to build a better team around him, and they've utterly failed to do that since the WS. (Frankly, both recent WS teams weren't all that great, just very good.)
What the Cardinals really need is pitching (doesn't everyone?) and yet they still haven't focused on that despite several pitching tragedies in recent years. Not quite Cubs-level disasters, but still... - Tegurit34, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Good news! It's a sepository!
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1We've all wanted to boil the ocean at some point in our lives.
- FreddieD, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1What many fans don't realize is that the reason the Cardinals have either won their division or contended every year this decade is because they spent rather wisely. Every year a Barry Zito or a Jason Giambi or a AJ Burnett would come along and we'd pass, while a coastal team spent an exorbitant amount to sign them. Then, halfway through the contract that team is trying to figure out how to unload that contract.
It's the unsung heroes that they find each year (Simontacchi, Spiezio, Wellemeyer, Lohse, etc) that allows them to compete the way they have. Having the best hitter since Ted Williams doesn't hurt, either. - PittPanthersFan, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1I wanna chat with Bob Nutting, cheapskate owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Trust me, it would be 20x the chat this is.
- Tegurit34, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1They've made some good, smart moves in the recent past but then they've also made some incredibly awful ones too. Ludwick was a fantastic deal last year and Greene looks like it's going to be a small, good one too. The 1-year deal for Lohse was fantastic. But his 4-year extension? -- that's almost Carlos Silva bad. Then Pineiro and Franklin are barely above replacement level and they gave them multi year deals.
The inconsistencies of that organization are amazing. - Fixhotep, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1You do have to hand it to them, they spend wisely and overachieve with what they have. Credit that to good coaching. But you also have to admit, year in and year out it you get uneasy by the moves they make (or dont make).
- Arthere, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1I can't believe the Cards are in 1st place atm with this guy as the GM.
http://www.creditcardassociate.com/gm.html - FreddieD, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Speaking of GMs and deals, how did that Broglio for Brock trade turn out for you guys?
- Tegurit34, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Best player in baseball AND most underpaid post-arbitration eligible player in baseball.
2008 actual salary: $13.9 million
2008 free agent value: $40.7 million!! - mgadalsky, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Thanks a lot! I'd better go and sleep instead of reading THIS http://drinkster.info
- sodypop77, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1I cannot agree with you more. The Cardinals have always preferred to utilize their farm system rather than go out and spend big money on "brand name" free agents.
- Biznaka, on 01/23/2009, -1/+1http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/farnsworth/
- theg3neral, on 01/23/2009, -1/+1LOL Cardinals, Go Brewers!
- axlhardd, on 01/23/2009, -1/+1How can a man of his stature, at the top of his profession, be so ***** awful at spelling and grammar? I've gotten texts from girls, honest to God, GIRLS**, with better spelling and grammar.
"First I rather live in my world then yours...it is sunny out today???"
**FACT: Women suck at spelling. - brianmita, on 01/23/2009, -1/+1because he probably felt he'd have to trade Schumaker in order to get a good moderator. With this guy, it seems it's "when in doubt, don't do *****."
but seriously, I'm a Cubs fan in St. Louis, and this guy is single handedly ruining the rivalry. He's terrible. - 9bpm9, on 01/23/2009, -2/+2I wish we would have signed a real GM and not kept the interim GM.
- dynamojoe, on 01/23/2009, -3/+2Hopefully we're not seeing another Mark Cuban in the making.
- nreuck, on 01/23/2009, -4/+2Why pay to see these guys play? The organization obviously doesn't care for it's team or it's fans. If you finish 4th in the NL Central you may want to make some moves in the off-season.
- smackydoodle, on 01/23/2009, -4/+2Wow, I'm in such a Superbowl mode I was thinking this was about Arizona even tho it plainly says St Louis.
If they keep this up, Pujols will leave after 2010 season and then their whole organization will fall apart. He's a beast and losing a player like that will doom them. Good news for us Cub fans tho I guess. - Gorgonzola44, on 01/23/2009, -6/+3Jim Hendry would've hunted each and every one of them down and broken their legs. And then paid Kevin Gregg $4.2 mil.
/Go Cubs(?) - chrissku, on 01/23/2009, -7/+4How professional.
- PinkoCommie, on 01/23/2009, -12/+2Front page with no comments! Awesome!
