- TheoDork, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36It would only surprise me if they somehow proved Barry Bonds hasn't taken any drugs.
- kazumaSHELL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33This is unbelievable. Not only did Barry fail the test, he threw his teammate(Mark Sweeney) under the bus. This guy is a cheating jerk. I hope this somehow stops him from breaking the HR record.
- skored, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Please kick him out of the league already. This guy did more damage to baseball than anyone in the history of the sport did or could ever do.
- whalefarmerjohn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19What a little bitch. As far as I'm concerned Hank Arron and Roger Maris are still the home run kings. I don't think anyone is going to take his records seriously.
- feylanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15babe ruth did it on beer and hot dogs
- weirdone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15just hit him...every single at bat. He can't hit 22 more home runs if he can't see straight. Why bother with intentional walks when you only need 1 pitch to put him on base, waste of 3 pitches otherwise.
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Well, just look at what happened to McGwire. I will laugh when Bonds doesn't get voted in to the Hall the first time he is eligible.
- matstars, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9in other news, grass is green, the sky is blue and my car runs on gasoline.
- billsil, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10dude, amphetamines, hardcore, steroids is one thing, but amphetamines?!!
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10He should get snuffed from the Baseball Hall of Fame just like Pete Rose. He basically had done the same thing here. He is denying that he ever took drugs and yet, his taking of the drugs has impacted the sport and caused records to fall. Pete didn't even cause records to fall in his betting thing.
- LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10The guy is a disgrace!
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Its not that hardcore. It was probably ephedra and not methamphetamine. Ephedra just makes you lose body fat, it doesn't really get you high. Ephedra is actually legal in the US if it comes from a natural supplement under 10mg and it used to be used in diet pills.
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7What a douche bag
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Under baseball's amphetamines policy, which went into effect last season, players are not publicly identified for a first positive test. A second positive test for amphetamines results in a 25-game suspension."
Wow, they're really trying to clean up their act. I think I would lose my job if I tested positive for using amphetamines, what about you guys? - LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just because everyone does it does not make it OK.
- catfud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ killinger777
Who cares if he misses the hall the first time
if the hall voters really wanna make a statement they need to not vote these guys in period
If McGuire gets in next year or 5 years from now what did they really do?
nothing - whyaay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wonder if anyone honestly didnt see this result coming. Terrible how he he claims he didnt know where it came from and then just tries to pass blame onto anyone else nearby.
- LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe are banned forever from the hall of fame because of some betting issues. But guys like this continue to play and break records.
Baseball is screwed up. I used to enjoy baseball but I can honestly say I have not watched a complete major league game in at least 10 years. - pittpat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's guys like this that cry because they only make $16 million a year to play baseball and then go and disgrace the game and record by cheating at it that has me so pissed off that I will never watch another pro baseball game in my life! I will never acknowledge his record if he does "break" it either. They should throw the lying bum out of the league and strip his name from any record books!
- bostonyankee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Here are some Cliff Notes to help you all out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_Four - forumreader, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5...yet Shawne Merriman continues to terrorize defenses around the NFL rather hate-free, and he's a proven performance-enhancing drug user.
- Lancer383, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@inigomntoya
Please tell me you're not implying that Mr. "I'm not here to talk about the past" is a victim in all of this? - DTJunkie07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Here is a comparison between Barrys Bonds when he was with Pittsburg and now with aggressive steroid use:
Pittsburg Pirates" http://www.newsday.com/media/photo/2006-03/22327462.jpg
Now while on Steroids: http://www.sfbappa.org/SF28.images/9%20BEST%20BARRY%20BONDS%20PHOTO/0HM1.JPG - isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yea, but drugs are illegal, although I guess 700 ft home runs would be cool. But then you'd also have 110 mph pitchers too.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Strip him of his records then kick has ass out. Same goes for all those other dicks hopped up on goofballs.
- diggstown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Wunderkind... actually in this case we're not even talking about performance enhancing drugs... just drugs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hate this *****. I've been a Giant's fan all my life and I just wish he would go away.
- jimbocook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In honor of Barry's latest achievement, I've updated my collection of Barry Bonds chemically dependent bobble heads: http://toonrefugee.com/toonblog/uncategorized/barry-bonds-bobblehead-amphetamine-edition/56
Way to go Barry! - PlasticSolution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"UFC? I guess it's okay even though people regularly get crippled."
Way to make up facts! Nobody has EVER been crippled from a UFC fight, let alone "regularly". - BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read this as "Blond failed aptitued test"
- fujidust, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Haha, someone like Fox should develop a real-life "Running Man" game show like in Arnold's old movie. Barry Bonds would make a fine contestant. I sure would watch..
- babar77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And don't stop there.. take McGuire and Sosa's numbers out too. Restore Maris' record.
- nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever you say, Dale Gribble.
- nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you have the years for those pictures and his stats for that year?
And yes, for those of you too lazy to click, there is a visible difference. A BIG difference. - nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's otherwise a slow news day. Plus we can make it up as we go long about Iraq.
"Today __(insert number here)___ of Shii'tes were killed by a Sunni Suicide Bomber"
"Sunnis Rally Against the Shi'ites"
"Shi'it Radical Bomber kills __(insert number here)___ of Sunnis"
"Suicide Bomber hits US Check Point, __(insert number here)___ of soldiers injured, bomber dies"
"__(insert number here)___ US Soldiers die when suicide bomber hits convoy"
See? Easy! - wigginz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FYI, amphetamine = speed, not steroids, not even remotely related, so stop the connection.
- PlasticSolution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The difference being that Shawne Merriman took responsibility for his actions (despite claiming that he took the steroid unknowingly in his nutritional supplement) and accepted his punishment rather gracefully. Bonds is all about lies, denial, and blame.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He took speed, or crank ? WTF for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphetamine
real question is did fail the other tests - PlasticSolution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are we supposed to care that you don't care? Ignore the story and move on if it's so unimportant to you.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Baseball has had record attendance for two years running.
TV ratings in the Series are awful lately, but that pretty much always happens where there isn't a team from New England playing in it. - rtoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I agree Bonds is part of the problem for the era, but the fact that Bud Selig and everyone else KNEW what was going on when McGuire, Bonds, Sosa, Conseco and others were putting up superhuman numbers and did ***** about it except sponge up the money pisses me off. We're all at fault here and to single out one man as the scapegoat and have him take the bullet for an entire generation is complete BS.
- applesuxLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think some martians landed and injected him and then took off before anyone noticed ?
- Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@bostonyankee "Some consistency would be nice."
Yup. ALL athletes who use performance enhancing drugs should get kicked out.
Consistently.
Hockey players who fight are NOTHING compared to drug use. - whalefarmerjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, because pitchers are throwing at a higher velocity these days leading to more home runs. Check the total home runs hit in Ruth and Aaron's day compared to now, and even more impressive how many home runs above league average each of these men hit back in the day.
- slickrick2k1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am shocked and appalled that amphetamine use is rampant in baseball. There are no words to express how flabbergasted I am by this.
/sarcasm
As an avid baseball fan AND intelligent observer, it's hard not to see this is as grasping for straws on the part of both the media and the government. My guess is the gov't pulls an al capone on him and gets him on his taxes instead of all the other stuff.
Seriously though. Amphetamines? I knew digg wasn't necessarily a mecca for sports discussion, but geez. Many people's reactions here only further hint towards a mass miseducation of the public regarding drug prevalence in sports, the role of athletes, and the barry bonds witchhunt. Sad, really. - ndogg138, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Lets keep in mind that there is no drug in the world that can give you talent. You can call this guy a Bitch, or whatever but Bonds still has to be able to hit the ball to hit a home run. Fine the guy, and move on.
Oh and Aaron, Ruth and Maris may have done it on beer and hot dogs but the also only faced a fraction of the pitchers that Sosa, Bonds and McGuire face now. All of these players are talented athletes and deserve some respect - past and present. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Saturday Night Live had the perfect solution to this in their "All Drug Olympics" sketch with Kevin Nealon. A sport is boring and pointless when juicers get into the hall of fame. It's unfair to the hard working legitimate athletes. Make a league where drugs are mandatory and we can watch superhumans battle it out on an even bigger field!
I can't wait until the 7th inning spliff! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why the hell doesn't this low life just crawl somewhere and hide forever. I really hope he never plays baseball again.
- DonKarnage25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"1. it's irrelevant that baseball didn't have a law banning steroids because they were still illegal in "real-world laws"."
You're confused. The majority of the drugs that we're constantly hearing about (with the exception of straight up steroids) are all LEGAL in the real-world. - scooterace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this guy is suppose to be a role model for kids growing up? They should ban him and not sell any item with his name on it ever.
