- moraldebate, on 10/07/2008, -2/+32Apparently the Digg front page does not read the sports page until about 3, when they realize their neighbor isn't going to pick up their newspaper and stealing it is fair game.
- awesometastic1, on 10/07/2008, -2/+30man did they blow it by putting on the squeeze in the top of the 9th. The red sox were obviously trying to pitch around aybar to set up the double play, so you pretty much new they weren't going to give him anything to bunt. Plus why was he starting to run towards first as if he was bunting for a base hit??? In that situation if you see you're not going to get the bunt down you better get hit by the ball or get enough in the way that the catcher drops it. Poorly played, and poorly executed. And i'm not a red sox fan or an angels fan, just a baseball fan who saw idiocy.
- KittySpark1es, on 10/07/2008, -2/+27Red Sox vs. Dodgers would be pretty epic after the whole Manny ordeal.
- Lucas123, on 10/07/2008, -0/+23I'm afraid they'll have to play with themselves for a while.
- Number23, on 10/07/2008, -9/+30The Red Sox really have made the Angels their prison bitch.
- Lucas123, on 10/07/2008, -8/+28An amazing game. Plenty of congratulations to go around -- from 7 shut-out innings by Lester, to that run down by Tek, to the double by J-Bay in the ninth and his slide home after a shallow single by Lowrie. What a great team -- a mix of youngsters and veterans all coming together to make it happen.
On to Tampa Bay. If we can get by Tampa, we'll beat the Dodgers and Manny, who I think will handle Philly. - jvieira, on 10/07/2008, -15/+27rays going down!
- d3dm, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1218 holes.
- RIPtechtv, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11I live right on the LA/OC border line here in So Cal. It will be interesting to see how many people become instant Dodger fans if they keep going.
- tim507, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11bandwagon fan.
- mevans05, on 10/07/2008, -2/+13Someone call the WAAAHMBULANCE for lvenoml!!! Your Angels can't even decide what city they're from... lame. PSST, Here's a hint... the Dodgers own LA, so stick with Anaheim.
- dlearyus00, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11^yankees fan^
- Trifold, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11I'm a Red Sox fan, and of course will be rooting for them...but you have to respect the way the Rays have built their team, especially considering they have basically no money. They waited out the youngins for those awful years, and now all those early round draft picks are paying off, and Tampa was smart enough to sign them long term. They're going to be a good team for a long time.
And still, over half the trop will be rooting for the sox. Sad really, don't quite think people in Tampa realize how good they have it. - Nobiting, on 10/07/2008, -38/+46Go Red Sox!
- tewstep, on 10/07/2008, -4/+11GO SOX!
...should be a great series. Being a Sox fan, part of me wants to think that Tampa's been playing out of their minds all year (ESPECIALLY their pitching), but they did hold us off for the division, so I have to tip the cap. Here's to many sleepless nights due to 5+ hour games, sweating Tito's bullpen moves, and the Stone Pimp fashion of Mr. Craig Sager!
IMO, it could go either way, but the good drama is a LA/BOS series. Absolute must-watch TV there. - cadmiumpaint, on 10/07/2008, -6/+13That Angel team was heavily overrated. They are proof that that 100 win season was the product of beating up on the very weak AL West. I've never seen so many errors, screw ups and choke jobs in the clutch (Vlad is a great hitter lol) than watching this Angel team. If they played in any other division they MAYBE get the wild card. The Angels are useless and once again this year, an overrated LA team chokes to the hungrier scrappier team from Boston.
LETS GO RED SOX!!!!! - tewstep, on 10/07/2008, -2/+9Boston hates you, so its all good
- NeoCortex, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6I wonder how it feels for a pinch runner to get run down by a catcher. In full gear, no less.
- jimmyp3016, on 10/07/2008, -5/+11The Hunt For Red Soxtober!
- DaClub, on 10/07/2008, -6/+12Who do the Yankees play next?
- josephbloseph, on 10/07/2008, -4/+10Not sure why anybody is putting you down, that _is_ why the call it Soxtober.
- NeoCortex, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6And don't forget about D-Lowe and Nomar. It would be a fun few games in Fenway, that's for sure.
- ModX, on 10/07/2008, -3/+7I am happy they won.
I was praying that I didn't have to stay up late for another night this week.
Something has to be done about late night starts. Is it too hard to start at 7PM, just like EVERY ball game that's played during the Summer? - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5HAHA! SOXTOBERFEEEEST!
- redsoxmb545, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4I've got a Papelboner!
Go SOX! - ohhaiitsryan, on 10/07/2008, -4/+8an incredible finish to one of the greatest series of my own lifetime.
i understand the angels being sore about some of the calls that didnt go their way- there were a lot of them in this series, but outside of being a sox fan, the umpires still got the calls right all around; especially on the squeeze play. - mevans05, on 10/07/2008, -2/+6Ummm, Boston's pitching isn't so shabby either - Beckett, Lester, Dice-K, Byrd, Wakefield...
- PunkFenixJT, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4Why are you being dugg down? Its pretty true, the Rays are something like 8-1 against the Sox at home this year...
- getisboy, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3baltimore
- josephbloseph, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Right, that must have been good policy over the last couple of years. The yankees haven't made it to the ALCS since becoming the first and only team in MLB history to lose a 7 game series after winning the first three games. Gimp.
- deezp1, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3As an Angel fan I'm disgusted..
The second they pinch ran for Morales and put Willits in and left Aybar in the game, EVERYONE knew the squeeze was coming. It was the goddamned top of the ninth, tie game, and only 1 out, why not put in a fly ball hitter and go for sacrifice fly? They only used 2 bench players at that point. Your playoff lives were at stake, you gotta pull all the stops at this point. Not to mention, you had all the momentum going your way. Bad bad move...
Not to mention, why in the hell did they leave Willits in the game? they need defense for the bottom of the ninth and Gary Matthews was sitting on the bench. I'm not saying he could of got the out at home (but he could of made it closer), but he wouldn't of dove for that ball like Willits did to let that guy on second in the first place. That ninth inning killed me.
For a guy that normally makes good managerial moves, it was bad moves by Scioscia in the ninth. - brsteve88, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Except that the games that started late were on the west coast, which are NEVER played at 7pm in the summer.
- nrvous250gt, on 10/07/2008, -2/+5Tampa has indeed been very impressive, which will make it all the more heartbreaking when the red sox pummel them, mercilessly.
- jrm71588, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3it's just...Rays
- holzp, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Or a very long time Yankee-hater.
- deezp1, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3I live in the same area and been a LIFELONG Angel fan, and what is making me sick is all these dodger fans talking all this ***** on how there team is superior. They one their first series in 20 years! Angels have been in the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years. Yeah, you have the better team. /sarcasm
OK OK, I know the Angels didn't make it out of the first round and the Dodgers did, but EVERY expert and anyone who has any baseball knowledge can tell you that the American League is far superior than the National League. And at least the Angels lost to the reigning champs and not beat a team that hasn't done nothing in the playoffs for 100 years now. I do think the Dodgers will win the next series, but they will lose to ANYONE in the American League in the World Series
So to all you bandwagoning Dodger Fans, go ahead and laugh it up while you can, your team has been the Angels bitch for the pass 8 or so years, and it looks to stay that way for awhile. So go ahead and live in the past, and come back and argue when your team is good for more than one year in the present. Not saying this year was a fluke, cause they did get hot when it counted (while I honestly think the Angels choked), but their ownership is so *****, McCourt will find some way to blow it for them next year.
One thing I can say that both Dodger and Angel fans can agree on is: ***** the Red Sox - wsgwilt, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Angels all but handed the Sox this series. As an Angels fan I will say the Halos are the more talented team, but the Sox execute better and were better prepared. Scioscia is normally a top 2 manager in the entire game...but this series...Red Sox won because they did the little things right.
- pjpete, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Well, so much for getting my Jordan's furniture for free! They needed to sweep this year.
- Rethcir, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2I don't know how Papelbon could be considered overrated, he's been a consistent closer for 3 years now. True, he depends on the overpowering fastball with late movement, but hey, smoke 'em if you got 'em.
- AtheistPride13, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2I've been a Phillies fan my whole life they have been horrible most of that time and went 15 years without a playoff win but I still stayed a fan and always knew they would be good again
- RedLineSkis, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Anyone who says that they are a Rays fan is a frickin lier!!! There is no such thing as a Rays fan, they have been dead last for years and now that they are winning everyone jumps on the band wagon.
- feshmania, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2@bigstinky
First off, it was 2004. The reason Sox fans are still so passionate is BECAUSE of all those terrible years. If you watched the post game yesterday, there is no arrogance in the fans, they still have a sense of we-might-crumble-at-any-moment. - rsbryswrrl, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Well we all know the MLB would love a Dodgers/Red Sox WS due to the Manny drama. All I'll say is:
LET'S GO RED SOX!!! (and I hope Beckett and Lowell remain healthy for the duration of the ALCS and WS - bigstinky, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2stubear...
I made a mistake and noted it.
You obviously presume too much, and your manlove for the Sox clouds your better judgment.
I do know talent. I did not say Boston sucked. Are you offended that I do not support your team? I have a right to root for whomever I so desire. This year it's The LA dodgers, and the Rays...Since my team DID suck.
Too bad bro. - bigstinky, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2My mistake fesh. I do not deny the passion...I respect that, for what my opinion is worth anyway.
Remember though, as I get dugg down to hell, I was one who rooted for them.
And I'm from Detroit.
Maybe it's just the Sox fans I come in contact with, or reading through some of these posts...It shows me there are some who forget where they came from. Regardless, I root for the underdog and hope the Rays crush them straight away. - Tijntje, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Well, I'm a dutch Red Sox fan, think about my sleepless nights with 2:30 AM starts...
- deezp1, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Boy, you really struck a cord with a disney comment.. Like I never heard that one before, the Angels haven't had anything to do with disney in 10 years, so i think its about time to retire they comment. At least I can go to Angel stadium and not fear of being shot or stabbed in OC, unlike Dodger stadium, with all the Cholos you have ruining that great stadium. It's like Orange Jump Suit Night every night in the pavilion.
and oh yeah, good luck finding a $6.50 beer and $8 parking at Dodger Stadium. - feshmania, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3us rays...I'm so sick of this Tampa bandwagon BS. The people of Tampa could've cared less about the Rays prior to this season. I went to a game in 2002 and I was able to buy a cheap ticket and walk down to the third row. Speaking of which, how are all those Lightning fans doing? Oh, what? Forgot you had a hockey team?
- linkwray, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Joe Torre, too.
