- samscomputer2, on 10/20/2008, -7/+59Salary of Rays = $45 million
Salary of Red Sox = $133 million
It's nice to know that money does not always equal success - aherman, on 10/20/2008, -7/+35Tampa Bay's players aren't making enough money. They deserve a Rays.
- englertron, on 10/20/2008, -2/+29I'm a pretty hardcore Sox fan, and so am pretty obviously disappointed by the outcome of Sunday's game. However, I will concede that the Rays played great, and if any team deserves to win it all as a result, it's them.
- Scarsraider, on 10/20/2008, -3/+26Let's go Rays!!!
- jboswell2000, on 10/20/2008, -8/+25First time in history? They've been a team for ten years...reel it in a bit.
- mrTr0ut, on 10/20/2008, -4/+20My Rays did it!...World series here we come!
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -5/+19price had an amazing save for a player so early in his career OMG!!
- JohnnyMarr, on 10/20/2008, -1/+13You're forgetting about the fact that the Yankees didn't even make the playoffs.
- GiveM3aBJ, on 10/20/2008, -5/+16im an indians fan, and im still pissed about last year. im glad the rays beat you *****.
the red sox used to be cool when they were waiting to get their first world series win in forever and i was happy when you won, then you started winning all the ***** time and pretty much became another yankees team. not only that a ***** load of douche bag kids are sox fans. - Unlegend, on 10/20/2008, -1/+11Clever, especially in combination with your username.
- MforMike, on 10/20/2008, -1/+11worst to first!
- animefx, on 10/20/2008, -5/+15Awesome! I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan and I think it would be great to see the Rays win it all this year!
- FreddieD, on 10/20/2008, -0/+9Yep! I'll be happy for whoever wins the World Series this year. Either St. Louis' native son Ryan Howard gets his first ring, or the Rays win it all after enduring a decade of being nothing but an AL East doormat.
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/20/2008, -4/+13The team with the 2nd lowest payroll won in a division with the two highest payrolls. That's awesome! GO RAYS!
- endustry, on 10/20/2008, -0/+8At least the title doesn't lead with the word BREAKING!!1!...
- ricco19, on 10/20/2008, -2/+10Sorry, but every American League team that made the playoffs were better than the Phillies. The NL is simply not as strong of a league. If the Rays don't win in less than 6 I will be surprised.
- boat, on 10/20/2008, -2/+9Awesome Game Awesome Series both teams played really well. Rays win the series.
- gurdjieff, on 10/20/2008, -1/+8The American dream is still alive.....
Go Rays...awesome win.
Redsox fans..your team once again proved that they are a first class organization that can play some great baseball with any team under any circumstance. Very impressive both teams. - JohnnyMarr, on 10/20/2008, -1/+8ZING!
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6Is this the new internet trend? Seriously every ***** time I see someone attempt to spell lose, they spell it loose. Come on people first graders don't make that mistake.
- AmericanGunner, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6BOOYAH!
- cadmiumpaint, on 10/20/2008, -6/+12As a Sox fan i'm a bit disappointed, but i'll give credit where its due...the Rays earned a tough series win and you guys have a solid young team that will be tough for a while. The Sox are old and beat up but we'll be back. Welcome to another AL East rivalry.
Lets Go Phillies!!!! - FreddieD, on 10/20/2008, -0/+6They did a great job of drafting over the last 5-6 years.. much better than other teams who have had top 5 draft picks each year (i'm looking at you Kansas City Royals). The Rays' farm system is chalked full of great prospects, too.
- seretta24, on 10/20/2008, -2/+7YUCK FOU!
- brsteve88, on 10/20/2008, -6/+11My only problem with the Rays is their fans acting like they're hardcore. Seeing as they still weren't selling out their stadium in October, it's kinda hard for those people to pretend like they've always stuck by their team.
- quiznos, on 10/20/2008, -1/+6I hate people who dismiss other based on superficial and stereotypical nonsense.
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/20/2008, -3/+8I agree that they are pretty much a Yankee team. Buying all-stars from lesser teams is pathetic, you are basically in race to see who can spend the most money and buy, not win, a World Series Championship. This is why the Rays are such a likable team, they build talent instead of purchasing it.
- Tegurit34, on 10/20/2008, -1/+6They were selling out their stadium in October. The organization just didn't sell the tickets with obstructed view, which there are a lot of them at the Trop. MLB is making them sell the tickets in the World Series, however.
And you really shouldn't have a problem with it. Winning sells more tickets and merchandise, period. This is true everywhere. - kawaiirobo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5C'mon man, your giving the rest of us a bad name, don't be that douche Boston guy.
- Zihuatanejo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Keep in mind it was the Phillies Brad Lidge who blew the save in the All Star Game, costing his team home field advantage in the World Series--his only blown save all season. That may come back to haunt him in a big way.
- ncapone, on 10/20/2008, -7/+11*****' finally!
- AmericanGunner, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4one for every limb?
- perfectsilence, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4but still the only way small market teams can win is by having good young (therefore cheap) players, in 4-5 years most of the players on this team will not be around as the team would not be able afford them.
- Maynza, on 10/20/2008, -1/+5:(
- BigWeev, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4The TBS commentators were backing the Rays...? Are you kidding me ???
- DickyT83, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4The Pirates? You could've said any other team in the league and you say the Pirates. The same team who's had 13 consecutive losing seasons. I'm sorry but they wouldn't stand a chance to win a game in that series, let alone stretch it to 6.
- hawkdude56, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Nice to see such a small market team make it to the big dance.
- SelfHomicide, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4It was even better being there. One loud game
- Boing, on 10/20/2008, -0/+4Good... ***** Boston.
- SenorBudd, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Always worth mentioning :)
- BigWeev, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3SWEET CAROLINE !!! WAAA WAAA WAAAAA !!! how does that cheese taste with your whine ??
- inactive, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3the price is right, bitch!
there - joncannon, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3More cow bell, Rays fans!
- BTraina, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3your all forgetting about the fact that 9=8 in joe maddons book... who knows what that number on the paycheck really is.
- JohnnyMarr, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3I see what you both did there.
- Tegurit34, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Except most of the Rays core is already locked into a long term contract as it is. There'll be arbitration to deal with and maybe they'll give BJ Upton a long term deal, but with the trend of the players giving mind-blowing hometown discounts through their club control years, it would surprise anyone if anyone starts making more than $10 million a year.
Unless the front office wants to make a completely unexpected free agent splash, this is going to be a very successful ball club paying with a $50-60 million payroll for several years. - Strongo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3maybe you didn't realize but some of us philly fans have been waiting a lifetime for this. We boo mother-***** santa clause. trust me, this series will be watched. sorry your ***** glitzy team didn't make the world series.
- endustry, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Cinderella-schminderella. I want the Phillies to be humiliated. Who does it to them is irrelevant to me.
- a bitter Mets fan. -
